I've seen this done using Mag-Wheel Polish for Automotive Rims on a S&W revolver.... IT TAKES A LOT OF TIME, BUT MIRROR FINISH IS POSSIBLE.... He kept it disassembled, and would keep the current part on the coffee end-table with the compound & rag.... He'd mindlessly buff it by hand while watching TV....
