  • Ryan and Zach talk about how the realities of expensive industrial warfare are still relevant. The Pentagon's fantasy of precision techno-war doesn't apply to wars with peer countries like Russia or China.

I'm currently reading a book about Imperial Japans military and how it modernized after their country was forced open in the 19th century. Leading up to ww2 there was a lot of division in the Japanese high command about how to compensate for Japan's inferior industrial base (compared to western nations like the u.s./ussr). What they ended up going with was what you said at 53:45 where they basically decided that equipment was secondary to morale and spiritual determination. Obviously that didn't end up working for them but it is interesting that that way of thinking seems to crop up in nations that cant afford to keep up economically with the other side. Overall great episode about a topic not often covered keep 'em coming👍

In other words, the Japanese Imperial leadership was crazier than any other significant power's leadership--which is saying something, given the competition.

In matters of the war in Ukraine the narrative was focused down to the the front and the measly changes in them as if they are to say anything about how the war is going in a broader economic sense. Classic and literal case of missing the forest for the trees and it's interesting and disheartning to see this happen in real time.

Please get a Logitech brio for like 40$. Nothing worse than trying to reach the masses in the absolute most boomer way.

Why do you need faces? "Boomers" rightly just listen while remaining productive with some kind of productive activity.
Why shackle yourself to a screen to look at faces?
