  • Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas was written by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane, and introduced by Judy Garland in the 1944 MGM musical Meet Me in St. Louis. In 2004 it finished at No. 76 in AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs rankings of the top tunes in American cinema.
After a month of playing Christmas gigs I always pick one song to work on and post to the channel. I added a very 1940/50's style intro, reharmonized the A section as many ways as I could (ii v, gospel, chromatic descending). I also used tried to keep the melody out front and retain the sweet sentimental feeling that makes this tune such a classic. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! And as always, thanks for listening!!
