You got to see Diana's mom in this video. When Diana was young, she was abused and abandoned by her birth mother. One of the ladies that worked in her orphanage fell in love with her and adopted her, so family by choice, not by birth. In fact, this was a contest for orphans and underprivileged kids.

What I find suprising is that you could view this video to begin with. I've known this mindblowing video for a couple of months now, and I put it in several of my UA-cam playlists. But a few weeks ago my acces to her HTB ""You Are Super'' competition video's have all been blocked. Such a bummer. This is Art with a capital A that should inspire the whole world. Blocking it should be considered a crime. But why can you see this in the US (I presume), while I cannot here in Holland?

About the song "Rechenka": This is an old ritual song about an orphan bride. The girl has no parents. The river was considered the boundary between the world of the living and the dead. She goes to the river and asks for the blessing of marriage. She says that there are many people at home, but there is no father and mother. You hear Diana singing in a whisper. These are the words of the deceased mother of the bride. Then the girl is crying. In Russia, at weddings they sang sad songs to scare away evil and the marriage of a young couple was to be happy. Such songs were called “weeping.” The figures behind Diana are spirits of water and forest.

Great reaction! If you like the Diana-Shaman-Warrior-Princess sound you should check out the following. This performance was from a Russian show that aired last fall, and ran for 9 weeks. There were 9 singers who were also the judges and critiqued each other. There were 9 genres of music they had to perform over the course off the show. Thus Diana sang in many different styles.
The song is Bopoha (Varona) - The Crow, and is from the same show she was participating in. It is in the category "Pop Hit" and is a cover of this Russian pop song:

Since it was popular only in Russia, you might want to listen to this version (on or off camera) first.
BTW, a "white crow" in Russian is someone who stands out from everyone else, in a positive way.

Diana (dee-ah-na) was abandoned by her abusive mother at the age 3 and placed in an orphanage, diagnosed with cognitive impairment. Her adoptive mother had her enroll in singing lessons to help with some speech problems due to abuse and neglect. Her singing talent was immediately noticed and the rest is history.
