A rare accation, where semmangudr and Balamurali in same kacheri in deferent roles. Blessed to see great artists together in supportive roles as anger and violinist.
Balamuralikrishna was perhaps the most versatile musician of India. Adept in vocal, viola, mridangam, kanjira etc, sang mellifluosly carnatic, jugalabandis, folk songs, rabindrasangeet, his own unparalleled thillanas, kshetrayya padams, film music and what not? His combination with the great nadopasaka semmengudi is something to be cherished!

Very nice by the only semmangudi at 88or 89years.the voice is old but the style100 percent carnatic music As also evergreen Dr BMk.and other accompanying the great singer

It is, undoubtedly, a great and unique fortune to see and enjoy such a music concert wherein three great Gurus are participated, namely Sri Semmangudi Avarkal, Sri Balamuralikrishna and Sri Dakshinamurthi swamigal, all represent three southern States. Pranamam to all. 🙏🌹

great singer, dedicated his life for music. Did not travel overseas and focused on spreading the nectar across India - this also shows he was not interested in earning any quick money
well there are musicians during his time who travelled across overseas to spread carnatic music or carnatic violin but they also didnt concentrate in earning money which is a great thing too.

Simply delectable. Would love to know in which year this was recorded. My guess is mid to late 1990's. I see both Sanjay Subramanyam and TM Krishna were in the audience. A lot must have rubbed off on them!

The central one singing is semmangudi srinivasa iyer his disciples include bharat ratna ms subhalakshmi she had only one disciple that being doctor radha viswanathan who taught singing to my teacher s aishwarya great grand daughter of ms subhalakshmi

Could you please add timestamps in the notes against the songs, by copying them from a comment by Brahadeesh Sankarnarayanan below? Probably the first time I am seeing Semmangudi in a non-white kurta, though even this shirt is only off-white. And normally Shri V Subramaniam sits to his right side. Which year was this concert? Once I met a Sanskrit scholar when he was 85. His wife told me he had started having difficulty remembering words. But age scarcely affected Semmangudi who was performing at an amazing level well past 85.

I keep confusing this concert with Semmangudi's concert in 1996 for Doordarshan : ua-cam.com/video/NSJjrgWQoas/v-deo.html when he sang an amazing Sama (maravakave o manasaa), and a beautiful RTP in Shankarabharanam. He was accompanied by VVS and Mannangudi Eashwaran.

how can someone like this average singing - quite jarring to the ear - almost like crooning and crying. I think its tradition to like mediocrity. MBK has a singing voice so it sounds great when he sings! We can give Semmangudi credit for MS - she's a gem and has a wonderful bhava and melodic voice but this guy is so overrated!
Sir with all due respect, please listen to all of his Kharahapriya recordings. SSI mama is a legend. He was closer to his 90s in this recording and hence would be wrong of us to judge him by only this recording.
His Appanavadharitha Kathaamrutham (23 minutes) one is a recording which can make anyone emotional. I'd suggest you give that a try
Semmangudi Mama was noted and respected for his vidwath. Not for his voice. A discerning rasika can look beyond the voice and enjoy the content of the music for its own sake.
