Always enjoy your videos but this one is a jem. Most folks try to sell you on their opinion what's best instead of encouraging that person to discover what works for them. Your explanation of choice was the best I've ever heard. Plus I'm blown away by your ability to hand cut sight dovetails and barrel ports!
Just so much common sense happening 👍Most important that you can put the bullets where you want them, and that they penetrate to the vitals. The 45ACP isn't noted for great penetration but with the right bullets it might be enough, and there's no doubt that Tinker can put the bullets where he wants them so OK for the purpose and better than bells and pepper spray for bears 🤣 I like it a lot.
Wonderful woods gun for up here in the PNW. i found myself responding to natures call up in the hills and had my trusty .44 bulldog ready to go on my belt.
I'm reloaded mana, many calibers over 45years. i might here in nc fishing in known bear and wild hog area's take either my Taurus pt845 45acp +p or my hi point 45acp with 255gr 18 brinnel hardness swc with starline 45super brass cronygraphed with me gt bullets 255gr hc-rn hp 950 fps in both pistols and works flawlessly. i used the old triton ammunition companies loading data for 450 smc that i think only understood factory loads now. i also used triton 45smc data for 185 jhp up to 1307fps but didn't own a cronygraph then. it cycled so fast the hi would miss picking up rounds because weak magazine spring but flawlessly it the Taurus. so i loaded it down to 1157-1200fps and cured the hi point . asi shoot same ammunition in both guns i left 180gr jhp 1200sps.when i got my cronygraph if i remember correctly thats where its staying at. papa from the foothills of the blue ridge mountains in NC wishing you well. 😊
I also "feel" only for the .45acp. Questions! 1. Do you sell custom grip panels? 2. Do you have any experience with the expensive chest Holsters? 3. Ammo? I've been using FMJ and Hydra-Shock. My adversary is mostly big wild hog.
I don't normally sell custom grip panels but I have on occasion. I usually would rather trade to further my hobbies. I have zero experience with expensive chest holster. I've made one for my hunting handgun (US Arms Abilene .44 magnum) but have never purchased one. The load I intend to use is the Underwood Xtreme Defender 135gr. I have friends in Texas that report it works very well on hogs and I expect it will work just as well on our local critters.
Hello Tinker... I genuinely like the premise and overall look or your 1911 Build! Coming from the loins of a Custom 1911 Pistolsmith myself (F.D.Kriegbaum Custom Combat Sights Buffalo, NY) albeit deceased I still dabble in the platform and genuinely like that look of your "Ported BBL , Slide Cut and Sight Replacement) and although Dad's 1st comment would have been "Lost Velocity" we all are aware that the 45acp is no real world beater in FPS, but stopping power being it's strong suit! Personally... I am kind of a superficial man and am wondering if there is an overall refinish project for your masterpiece? Understandably function is the main concern, but looking good to is important to me! Please advise processes as to porting the bbl and cutting back the slide... Thanks ';-)
I expect I will be refinishing the entire gun. I am set up to do GunKote at home but might consider rust-blue instead. My process for doing the slide cut and porting is probably a bit different than most gunsmiths; I have been a full-time knife and sword maker for over thirty years and am used to working metal with the tools of that trade. I did the slide cut on my 2x72 belt grinder by simply grinding away the metal until I though it was right for my purposes. This is a less slap-dash process than it might sound like. After all of these years I can be pretty precise. To port the barrel and cut the sight dovetail I used a vice, files and and in the case of the port a carbide burr in a Foredom tool. I used the TLAR system of measurement (That Looks About Right.) 😁
.45 probably too slow to penetrate even a deer hide let alone a bear. I'd go with something higher velocity probably .45 was designed exclusively for soft targets, i.e. humans. It's a battlefield round.
BEAUTIFUL!!!! I LOVE THE GRIPS.HELL OF A JOB🇺🇸

It' refreshing to listen to a reasonable person talk about his choice of firearms. I watch all your videos. Keep em coming!
Thanks Frank, will do!
Beautiful!
Nice firearm. When I go to the woods I can never make up my mind what firearm I am going to carry.
6" Ruger GP100, extra spicy .357 magnum loads.

Very nice. Thanks.
Good advice. Well done. No scandium frame is fun to shoot.

HA! "Kink shame".
Oh boy. You'd just have to see the weird stuff I bring to the party, but yeah, no judgment.
Well said and built! It's certainly a worthy companion for multiple environments or scenarios. 👍👍
Excellent video, really neat to see the progression & you making it your own, I would love to have a gun made from my own hands someday!
Great video, but it looks like the bullets are keyholing.
I had that thought too but when I looked closely it was just the way the target was tearing.
😊😊😊😊😊
Ha two world wars bullshit!LOL 😂🤣😊👍🏽❤️🇺🇸

@@tinkertalksguns7289 thanks for the info Sir ';-)
I love the TLAR measuring system. It reminds me of the tool of last resort, the BFH.

Nice project. Now, will my comment post, and stay posted?
It posted. But will it stay?
