JT I’m hoping so, my friend I really am my concern is the lake is constantly letting out water at a good pace since we don’t on the water rights Redlands I think does so they get a constant flow of water down the mountain for their irrigation. So I’m really really hoping that we figure something out if we get lucky enough to fill the lake up, they need to do something to keep the water.

I’m really staying positive about that we do have some more snow coming in on Wednesday and a little bit Thursday possibility of 6 inches which usually means close to about a half inches of precipitation, which isn’t gonna have much impact on the lake, but at this point every little bit, we can get is gonna be great. Jason, keep your fingers crossed bro I think we’re gonna be able to get within 5 feet by the end of the season

I’ve lived in Fawnskin since mom built our house in 1964. This is the most water I have ever seen flowing at the Grout Creek bridge in all those years. Just great. Thanks for capturing the beauty!
Really nice. I hope the lake fills up. I don't live in BB anymore moved to Utah but great memories of me and my dog on my pontoon boat just floating on that beautiful lake and also kayaking on the lake. Glad I found your videos brings me back to BB.

I think most of these streams which were dry are going to be becoming very very full, especially a little bit further north than Santa Barbara because of all the runoff from all that snow. @Big Bear Weather and More Awesome! I can't wait too! There's this spot I go to called The Bridge to Nowhere and the river has been looking sad the past couple years but this year its gonna be Awesome considering it gets all your melted snow pack. The San Bernadino mountains and Angeles Crest forest are my favorite. Well, Yosemite is pretty magical but as far as our local Mountain ranges you cant not love it! Yes, ill hit you up on my next boarding trip to Bear..I'm stoked! Hugs and High Fives for sure!
@@RoneZone I’d be stoked broski. And yes, the way you put it is the way I feel I really do love our mountain range, but the one thing that I look forward to is if I ever choose to move to a different mountain area it pretty much gets only better from here in terms of the beauty, the size of the mountain range, the greenness etc. My only real issue or actually I have a few but my main issue with this mountain range is it’s just so tiny. If there was a road that went straight up the side of the mountain to the other side of the mountain, Francis from the bottom of one side to the top, and then back down to the bottom of the other side, if it was a straight road, it wouldn’t take you more than 15 to 20 minutes to get through the whole mountain range from one side to the other kind of like driving through the Cajon pass. It’s just such a tiny little place. Of course it’s a little piece of heaven, but at the same time when I lived in Colorado, that was a mountain range when I lived in Utah, those were Mountain’s. I know it sounds like I’m talking smack about my beautiful mountain range but I’m not. I just wish we were more like the Sierra’s or the Wasatch or the Rockies or the cascades or the San Juan’s or the Smokey’s in terms of being bigger. One huge benefit to that is if you need anything literally anything it’s no more than an hour Drive to get whatever you need. But this mountain range does hold a very special place in my heart because as I’ve told you guys when I was 10, my mom bought a cabin in Lake arrowhead and she owned it for five years and we would come up and visit every winter time when there was a snow storm coming, we would probably come up twice a year Maybe three times some years but those memories of spending time with my family and enjoying that area was and still is the best memories of my life and I’ve been lucky enough to travel the world a couple times, and my best memories are still in Lake arrowhead. I didn’t spend any time in Big Bear until I was about 20 years old a friend of mine his dad, one of their many vacation homes was one of the biggest homes in big bear right on the lake. It was pretty awesome, but when we would go to Lake arrowhead in the morning, we would end up driving to the ski resorts from Lake arrowhead, so I never really spent much time in big bear. When I moved up to this area, I really wanted to live in Lake arrowhead because of the memories with my family But unfortunately there weren’t enough jobs to sustain you year around. That’s my little spiel about this area but once again, don’t think I don’t absolutely love it I do, and I’m sure anywhere I go. I can find some reason to complain lol. But I’m definitely looking forward to meeting you bro. I think that’s gonna be awesome. When you do come up here don’t forget to hit me up. Love seeing Grout Creek flowing. Last summer it was dry. Suggest you go up Brookside Lane in Fawnskin and see the actual brook that flows along the east side of the lane and cuts to the west before it then heads down to where you were filming. Reportedly at the end of Brookside Lane as you keep going into the forest is where some Black Bears live.

Absolutely spectacular Nikk! Fawnskin, a page out of the Old West. I still remember a saw mill company that was there many, many years ago. Just a beautiful section of the Big Bear Valley. I still remember going for walk near the old saw mill oh approximately 20 years ago and lo and behold we ran into Shirley Jones and her late husband Marty Ingels. Had an absolutely fascinating conversation with them for over 30 minutes. Just one more of many, many fond memories of Big Bear.

your videos make me feel like a youngin again! When I was 10 growing up in Florida I used to go exploring stormwater drains a LOT. The florida ones weren't as pretty as this. My brother and I would walk under the road and listen to the sounds of the cars going over. We were careful not to go there when it rained but I'm surprised we never found any venomous snakes.

I forget the name of the creek that comes down by Castle Rock Trail🤔… it might be Siberia Creek… or that might be the one up by Bluff Lake… but it is awesome to hike it in big snow years like this because there are so many cascades and small waterfalls…. You got to check it out. It would be great content for you and I know you will dig it.

Is that what it is because if we were almost 20 feet below full at the beginning of the season and now we’re only 10.2 feet below full I would think it’s a little more than that but then again I have no clue that’s good information. Where did you get that?

To calculate for percent, 45,467 / 73,320 = 62.0. The capacity of the lake with the old rock dam was a little more than 1/3 of today’s dam, so about 25,000 acre-feet. The extra 20’ height added about 48,000 acre-feet capacity. FYI, the BBMWD website also notes that evaporation drops the lake every year by 4’.

Correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding is that in recent years however many, the water rights to Big Bear Lake were sold and that has contributed along with the drought to the low levels, will they allow the lake to return to the levels it was before, or will the water get sold off?
Craig so what I am to believe is Decades and Decades ago. The water rights were sold to Redlands California and I think another area down the mountain so they get the water for irrigation and what not and I know this area in big bear has been trying to fight that for many many many years now. But that’s a great question Craig But yes, my understanding is that the lake has belong or at least the water rights. The Litoral rights have belongs to Redlands.

Since I’ve lived here for eight years, it was almost 20 feet down. There have been times when you could drive across the lake. Many many years ago you could drive from I think near the village across to Fawnskin. But now we are only 10.2 feet below full

JT I’m hoping so, my friend I really am my concern is the lake is constantly letting out water at a good pace since we don’t on the water rights Redlands I think does so they get a constant flow of water down the mountain for their irrigation. So I’m really really hoping that we figure something out if we get lucky enough to fill the lake up, they need to do something to keep the water.

I’m really staying positive about that we do have some more snow coming in on Wednesday and a little bit Thursday possibility of 6 inches which usually means close to about a half inches of precipitation, which isn’t gonna have much impact on the lake, but at this point every little bit, we can get is gonna be great.

I'm doing ok hanging in their I've been applying for jobs left and right spending time with my good friends and planning going to photography school. Plus I'm an emotional wreck my old friend I used to go to church and hang out they died in a car wreck on early Sunday morning and I've been crying off and on I used to live a block from West Covina not that far in Baldwin Park so we were close to each other.

Sweet! The river is flowing!! Finally..I went to a place called 7 falls (Santa Barbara) last Summer and there was no water. Hopefully, we have enough to fill all our beautiful streams and lakes here in S. California!
Rone my friend that’s something I bet is going to be the case honestly. I think most of these streams which were dry are going to be becoming very very full, especially a little bit further north than Santa Barbara because of all the runoff from all that snow. I am so excited to see what happens.

@Big Bear Weather and More Awesome! I can't wait too! There's this spot I go to called The Bridge to Nowhere and the river has been looking sad the past couple years but this year its gonna be Awesome considering it gets all your melted snow pack. The San Bernadino mountains and Angeles Crest forest are my favorite. Well, Yosemite is pretty magical but as far as our local Mountain ranges you cant not love it! Yes, ill hit you up on my next boarding trip to Bear..I'm stoked! Hugs and High Fives for sure!
@@RoneZone I’d be stoked broski. And yes, the way you put it is the way I feel I really do love our mountain range, but the one thing that I look forward to is if I ever choose to move to a different mountain area it pretty much gets only better from here in terms of the beauty, the size of the mountain range, the greenness etc. My only real issue or actually I have a few but my main issue with this mountain range is it’s just so tiny. If there was a road that went straight up the side of the mountain to the other side of the mountain, Francis from the bottom of one side to the top, and then back down to the bottom of the other side, if it was a straight road, it wouldn’t take you more than 15 to 20 minutes to get through the whole mountain range from one side to the other kind of like driving through the Cajon pass.
It’s just such a tiny little place. Of course it’s a little piece of heaven, but at the same time when I lived in Colorado, that was a mountain range when I lived in Utah, those were Mountain’s. I know it sounds like I’m talking smack about my beautiful mountain range but I’m not. I just wish we were more like the Sierra’s or the Wasatch or the Rockies or the cascades or the San Juan’s or the Smokey’s in terms of being bigger. One huge benefit to that is if you need anything literally anything it’s no more than an hour Drive to get whatever you need.
But this mountain range does hold a very special place in my heart because as I’ve told you guys when I was 10, my mom bought a cabin in Lake arrowhead and she owned it for five years and we would come up and visit every winter time when there was a snow storm coming, we would probably come up twice a year Maybe three times some years but those memories of spending time with my family and enjoying that area was and still is the best memories of my life and I’ve been lucky enough to travel the world a couple times, and my best memories are still in Lake arrowhead. I didn’t spend any time in Big Bear until I was about 20 years old a friend of mine his dad, one of their many vacation homes was one of the biggest homes in big bear right on the lake. It was pretty awesome, but when we would go to Lake arrowhead in the morning, we would end up driving to the ski resorts from Lake arrowhead, so I never really spent much time in big bear. When I moved up to this area, I really wanted to live in Lake arrowhead because of the memories with my family But unfortunately there weren’t enough jobs to sustain you year around.
That’s my little spiel about this area but once again, don’t think I don’t absolutely love it I do, and I’m sure anywhere I go. I can find some reason to complain lol.
But I’m definitely looking forward to meeting you bro. I think that’s gonna be awesome. When you do come up here don’t forget to hit me up.

Love seeing Grout Creek flowing. Last summer it was dry.
Suggest you go up Brookside Lane in Fawnskin and see the actual brook that flows along the east side of the lane and cuts to the west before it then heads down to where you were filming. Reportedly at the end of Brookside Lane as you keep going into the forest is where some Black Bears live.

Absolutely spectacular Nikk! Fawnskin, a page out of the Old West. I still remember a saw mill company that was there many, many years ago. Just a beautiful section of the Big Bear Valley. I still remember going for walk near the old saw mill oh approximately 20 years ago and lo and behold we ran into Shirley Jones and her late husband Marty Ingels. Had an absolutely fascinating conversation with them for over 30 minutes. Just one more of many, many fond memories of Big Bear.

your videos make me feel like a youngin again! When I was 10 growing up in Florida I used to go exploring stormwater drains a LOT. The florida ones weren't as pretty as this. My brother and I would walk under the road and listen to the sounds of the cars going over. We were careful not to go there when it rained but I'm surprised we never found any venomous snakes.

I forget the name of the creek that comes down by Castle Rock Trail🤔… it might be Siberia Creek… or that might be the one up by Bluff Lake… but it is awesome to hike it in big snow years like this because there are so many cascades and small waterfalls…. You got to check it out. It would be great content for you and I know you will dig it.

To calculate for percent, 45,467 / 73,320 = 62.0. The capacity of the lake with the old rock dam was a little more than 1/3 of today’s dam, so about 25,000 acre-feet. The extra 20’ height added about 48,000 acre-feet capacity. FYI, the BBMWD website also notes that evaporation drops the lake every year by 4’.

Lyn let me welcome you to Big Bear ahead of time. I don’t think you’re gonna need any tire chains. I think you’ll be good however just to make sure you should download the Caltrans QuickMap app and take a look on the day you’re planning on coming up just to make absolutely sure.

Correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding is that in recent years however many, the water rights to Big Bear Lake were sold and that has contributed along with the drought to the low levels, will they allow the lake to return to the levels it was before, or will the water get sold off?
Craig so what I am to believe is Decades and Decades ago. The water rights were sold to Redlands California and I think another area down the mountain so they get the water for irrigation and what not and I know this area in big bear has been trying to fight that for many many many years now.

But yes, my understanding is that the lake has belong or at least the water rights. The Litoral rights have belongs to Redlands.

What was the lowest number at big bear lake ?
Since I’ve lived here for eight years, it was almost 20 feet down. There have been times when you could drive across the lake. Many many years ago you could drive from I think near the village across to Fawnskin.
But now we are only 10.2 feet below full
