Well, here it is again, Jillian and Edward -- all those people singing together and Jillian, you said it perfectly: "it touches the soul". How true and I will always tear up when I hear it and ALL THOSE PEOPLE SINGING TOGETHER!
No emotion, this is a very emotional song......i always think of Hillsborough....beautiful song and singer...but no emotion, i love to hear Liverpool supporters sing out loud and proud....gives me goosebumps.
All those people singing together and this MOST WONDERFUL "song". It is almost more like a prayer to me ... I guess it is a prayer -- so hard to call it a song (to me). The acoustics? Fine. The magnificence of all those people singing together?: PRICELESS. Who gives a damn about the acoustics or whatever else negative thing can be said? No. It's wonderful.
Jillian, I watched it again this morning (first time since 1/14) and, of course, I cried. It does something to my soul that only a couple of others can. All those people singing together ...
I remember experiencing the movie as a young boy and the power that this film wielded over those in attendance. Why, there wasn't a dry eye in the place - including mine.
I know right!? I'm an avid fan of British culture and, of course, the Proms. I wanted to purchase the 2010 Proms when it featured the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein, but alas it was only available for sale in Europe... Good thing there's UA-cam though!
@smilekatysmile I agree. In fact, Lady Gaga has shown time and time again to have a great appreciation of all kinds of music. I wouldn't be surprised if she listens to orchestral pieces like these from time to time.
The people in the crowd with the Liverpool FC flag and the Red Liverpool scarves encapsulates in one moment why the football club is completely unique and special compared to all other clubs. What other club would have fans at an event like this, which is a completely different kind of thing to a football match, turning up with clubs flags and scarves to wave during their song? The answer is no other club.
@XL2man Haven't used this since school 30 years ago, but here goes. It's Ortega y Gasset: "The mass crushes beneath it everything that is different, everything that is excellent, individual, qualified and select."
Not enough people singing it here. For all the other patriotic songs, nothing comes close to them. Having said that, NOTHING beats the Kop at max chat.
it's mainly because the last night of the proms ends with patriotic songs like Rule Britannia and Jerusalem but I don't really see why they don't show it on BBC america :-/ I know a few americans that join in singing Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory :-)
@XL2man Why cant you like Lady Gaga and proper classical music. The Proms are my favourite things in the world to watch and listen to but that doesnt mean that i dont have some Lady Gaga on my iPod.
That's not true. This song was first used in football by Liverpool after Gerry and the Pacemakers (from liverpool) released their version, and the chart was played before matches and the fans used to sing it, and when it went out the charts they carried on singing and from then on it was adopted at liverpool. It was then adopted by other clubs like celtic after they saw it sang at liverpool. Just because you don't like liverpool, doesn't mean you have to make stuff up!
I love the Last Night all my life-I always esteemed it for the strength, the creative power and the great artists Great Britain is famous for-but sorry this was a 3rd class concert! I remember overwhelming performances of Boult,Sargent,A.&C.Davis,Groves,Terfel,Della Jones,Tomlinson and so on..!And where are gone Woods enchanting British Sea Songs?pc?And why so much american Musical compositions in a country which can be proud to have great composers as Vaughan Williams,Elgar,Arnold,Bax or Bliss?!
Well its a beautyfull... meaning full song... so i think its wrong to bring religion , or something bigger in life... Football, to discusion... That last night of the proms no one cares for football.. but for music... Best regards from Denmark..
Since the norwegian vikings discovered this tiny island named Uk about 1100 years ago it has gone from bad to worse. I am not sure how the the britons did not discover themselves, but it happend anyway. Now even football is not holy.
I agree, however, I actually like hearing the storm in this version. Though I prefer the original, "variety is the spice of life" and I really like Susan Bullok's singing! How do you like this one?: ua-cam.com/video/UfJV7n3zFuI/v-deo.html
@XL2man I assure you, Sir, that most Americans do not "want" Lady Gaga, either in their ears or any place else! Sadly, we do not support the arts nearly as much as we should. That's why we turn to our British cousins for well done arts. Sad but true.
@ladygaga Lady Gaga on Twitter - 14,255,901 followers @lang_lang Lang Lang on Twitter. 10,805 followers. Something is drastically wrong with the musical tastes of the masses.
@vivaamerica2011 The proms aren't really owned by the BBC (even though they are called the BBC proms). In a manner of speaking they are owned by the country and I suspect if BBC America wanted to air them the would need to pay top dollah!! Sorry I'm probably talking nonsense.
If you read what I said you'd notice I said "the first time this song was used in football". I didn't say it was written by Gerry and the pacemakers, I said they did a version of it.
I'm not sure what you call what you play, and you play it quite well I suppose. But it's not football. Depending on where you are from, football is either soccer, Rugby or (here) Aussie Rules. All are played without helmets and body armour. I suggest you watch some UA-cam of Wales V England Rugby to get some idea of what it's like - and listen to the singing before and during the match.
However, I agree with the other comments-this is a terrible arrangement. Awkward modulations, the choir is unnecessary, and the intonation is dreadful. Stick to the basic arrangement; leave the Star Wars chords to the movies, and let the Soprano shine on her own.
The people involved in this video are certainly talented. They are appreciated. However, this song is a soupy secular kind of thing from Rodgers and Hammerstein who must have been afraid to mention God for fear that some one might be offended.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Sue Bullock and adore Ed Gardner - no reflection on them but this is such an appalling arrangement. U fortunately for the poor arranger the original is near perfect in its anthem if form and can’t be improved upon. It is just further proof, if proof were needed that the BBC ARE UTTERLY CLUELESS when it comes to events like this. For one, at no point is the poor arranger mentioned. What was their brief???? Whatever, they should have had the musical integrity to say no. There is no respect for the original and it’s context, and there is no music reason to indulge in such wanton behaviour. The BBC will kill the Proms as surely as they killing every intelligent thought or programme they have control over. And I don’t just mean serious music. I mean serious drama, sport, everything they touch they ruin. Run by morons for idiots.
What a terrible arrangement. They should have used the same version, correct harmonies and all, as was used in the movie 'Carousel.' It sounds as if whoever made this awful orchestration was trying to be too clever by half but failed miserably.
Last Night Of The Proms... a Great British institution!
Aston Villa supports the memories of the 96.
We stand with Liverpool until the end.
+Sean Organ Same here Sean....so sad, hurts even now.
we stand together.
Sean Organ
This is my favorite music from the Proms, every year I keep waiting for it! Lovely! deep feelings!
We used to sing this in choir class at school, was one of my favorite songs. You can put a lot of energy into it.
Well done to all

let's have E motion...
Jerry Lewis, are you listening from heaven. You did good. RIP.
+Louise McCarthy Your comment says it all, it is like a prayer.
Jillian, I watched it again this morning (first time since 1/14) and, of course, I cried. It does something to my soul that only a couple of others can. All those people singing together ...
Louise, i agree, a fabulous song ,that can reduce people to tears....why? because it means something, it touches the soul.
I cried too Louise you are not on your own
NOT GOOD ENOUGH !--AT THIS LEVEL, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIRST RATE. NO EXCUSES !
I remember experiencing the movie as a young boy and the power that this film wielded over those in attendance. Why, there wasn't a dry eye in the place - including mine.
as a 16 year old British Girl I am lucky to always have last night of the Proms on my Brithdays
I steppin' all the way to the supermarket to get a bunch of beer's :)
Then you can all sing along to this :)
This is beautiful.
no it isn't--well not this version
Praise the Lord ❤
Going down Liverpool 2014 Never won the Premiership but can say they have won the right to play in the championship.
Beautiful inspiring stuff
justice has been served.
fab song
I love her voice

I know...who wants to walk alone, we walk together.😃
Very nice.
I love that lady!
Потрясающе...Потрясающеڰۣ✿

R.I.P The 96!
Leave it to The Kop love!
Especial, muy especial para mi.
@XL2man
Haven't used this since school 30 years ago, but here goes. It's Ortega y Gasset:
"The mass crushes beneath it everything that is different, everything that is excellent, individual, qualified and select."
Who’s watching during the covid19 pandemic?
its from carousel the musical before jerry marsden did it.
carosel 1956 julie and billy biglow
PLEASE LOOK DEEPER INTO THE WONDERFUL WORDS. Don't worry about the harmonics etc.
YOU CAN--I PREFER REALITY
God Save the Queen
Eric Anderson God save the Queen from this atrocious arrangement.
Not enough people singing it here. For all the other patriotic songs, nothing comes close to them. Having said that, NOTHING beats the Kop at max chat.
Not sure why, as the Proms are held in London and that's where most Man United fans live...
it's mainly because the last night of the proms ends with patriotic songs like Rule Britannia and Jerusalem but I don't really see why they don't show it on BBC america :-/ I know a few americans that join in singing Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory :-)
WELL WHY NOT--THEY ARE BLOODY GOOD SONGS, REGARDLESS.
LIVERPOOL FC TILL I DIE!
I somehow can't see Glory Glory Man United played at an event like this.
3:09 I GOT THAT SHIRT!!!!!!!!
@XL2man Why cant you like Lady Gaga and proper classical music. The Proms are my favourite things in the world to watch and listen to but that doesnt mean that i dont have some Lady Gaga on my iPod.
@XL2man I could have told you that 40 years ago...
Actually, the answer is every club flag would appear at the proms if their club song was played.
@vivaamerica2011
well, bbc AMERICA...
That's not true. This song was first used in football by Liverpool after Gerry and the Pacemakers (from liverpool) released their version, and the chart was played before matches and the fans used to sing it, and when it went out the charts they carried on singing and from then on it was adopted at liverpool. @XL2man Yes, too many people like Lang Lang.

Has anyone introduced you to the black kettle?

LIVERPOOL!!!
But who will be remembered decades from now? The best, that's who. Not celebrities like Lady Gaga.
Since the norwegian vikings discovered this tiny island named Uk about 1100 years ago it has gone from bad to worse. I am not sure how the the britons did not discover themselves, but it happend anyway. Now even football is not holy.
You're right, but about five hundred years too late. Albion has never been the same since the Romans turned up.
The harmonics are dreadful. It's like the music is going one direction and the singing is going another.
Desmond P T Yes. Very late Schonberg. Ugh.
I agree, however, I actually like hearing the storm in this version. Though I prefer the original, "variety is the spice of life" and I really like Susan Bullok's singing! How do you like this one?: ua-cam.com/video/UfJV7n3zFuI/v-deo.html
Surely Lang Lang is one of the pandas that the chinese are trying to mate with Sing Song! isnt it? lol
thank god for small mercies then.
do you mean egg chasing? or actual football?
Despite the effort, this performance doesn't come anywhere near the Kop singing it YNWA
@XL2man I assure you, Sir, that most Americans do not "want" Lady Gaga, either in their ears or any place else! Sadly, we do not support the arts nearly as much as we should. That's why we turn to our British cousins for well done arts. Sad but true.

Is it not on BBC America or PBS? Actually, if you elect Romney, you'll have neither of those!
The start sounds like Danny Boy
Liverpool F.C.
Who is this?
@vivaamerica2011 shame it doesnt
@vivaamerica2011 The proms aren't really owned by the BBC (even though they are called the BBC proms). In a manner of speaking they are owned by the country and I suspect if BBC America wanted to air them the would need to pay top dollah!!

Read again what I wrote. I said "first used in football by liverpool"
1 Person is LADY GAGA! ohh shit thats real!!
Well not true, if you've ever been to SE Asia, you would know they all live there! Not that I care. It's not a crime to support any club you like.
Sorry, but this is a really terrible version of a wonderful song.. everyone is off-key at some point or another, and the composition is really awful.
lonemale mcphee it’s awful isn’t it
lonemale mcphee exactly
I totally agree , and it just doesn't work . Sometimes it's really best to leave some music alone
@cc23909 whatever
The fact that only 10.805 people want to see Lang Lang abuse a piano is a good thing.
I'm not sure what you call what you play, and you play it quite well I suppose. But it's not football. Depending on where you are from, football is either soccer, Rugby or (here) Aussie Rules. @vivaamerica2011 Because most Americans want Lady Gaga.
Al Girard Not me! I still want Birgit Nilsson and Roberta Peters!
the kop sings this better ;-) YNWA
Great version but the Andre Rieu version does top it. The 96.
@oipolloi1 Get out...! :)
What a terrible arrangement!
