Wingtip Watching Experiment

- Don't watch this video, if you just ate a large pizza! Watch the wingtip, and see if it makes you dizzy or nauseated. Beware: the effect will probably be greatest after you stop watching. Thanks in advance for letting me know the result of this experiment. This video was filmed 8/4/18 in my LS-3 5-10 miles north of Moontown airport near Huntsville, Alabama.

It doesn't bother me Eric, I have 500+ hours of experience. Looking at the wingtip keeps me centered in the thermal and it makes it easier to judge my position relative to the wind. I never feel any nausea when I'm circling, I do however feel a little lightheaded from time to time when flying in a straight line through areas of lift.
Looking at your video, it starts to get annoying after a while to only watch the wingtip, in reality you would scan the area and your panel. But I found that it was less annoying to focus on the background instead of focusing on the wingtip. Cheers Marc
I understand the oddness of the motion, but after 300 hours gliding it doesn't bug me too much. However, if I feel sick on my next real flight, I'm a-coming for you, Eric - fine work with webinars notwithstanding.
Hard to get sick unless your "feel" is different from what you see
Didn't make me sick. But t was good after watching some of your lectures to gauge circle times and watch for markers. Thanks again for posting.
I got dizzy after one minute or so, but I got out of it quickly - this video can serve as a practice to get used to it.
If your thermaling you should focus your attention at the horizon with brief lookouts for traffic. There is little value at watching the wingtip
hi Eric i was going to repeat basics looking for your thermalling 123 lesson
i am sure you know the term pivotal altitude
based on land sections length if its same as in canada 1 sm (i estimate 1.5 sections circle)
in this video you were flying above pivotal by roughly by3400 feet +pivotal200 maybe 3600 feet above ground ?
not too precise but took me 3 circles :) w/o flight computer
i love flying always looking for mental math to aid me and make me forget about dizzynes
Neat...but I am still on the ground 😁
