    Really great video Jack, liked seeing the desert and hostel. The roads in China seem wonderful, nice wide shoulders to ride on. Keep on having fun and being a positive force in life. Cheers

      T Savage Thanks! Yea the roads have been perfect here. Even when there's big trucks they leave extra space so it's really good! Thanks for the support!

    getting thin film solar was such a good idea!!! If you had attached high energy density rigid panels they would have shattered.

    Jack.. Can you tell us about your solar system: ie: how many watts solar panels and is that a Genasun GVB-8 boost charge controller..? looks like you have a bafang or similar mid-drive
    How many volts and watt is your motor..? Range..? Lithium ion (NCR-GA Sanyo cells..?) . How did you match it all up..? Thanks Robb PDX USA

    • @JackButlerVideos
      @JackButlerVideos  6 років тому +1

      each of the four panel is "75watts" (probably more 65-70). Yep i used a Genasun GVB-8. The motor is a BBSHD, 52v nominal triangle battery from EM3EV: em3ev.com/shop/50v-14s6p-small-triangle-pack/

    Add 2 wheel to the trailer, and mount of the trailer should be moveable. when you are on a bent trailer doesn't bend, how is my idea?

    Thank you for the post man! I’m finishing up a solar E-recumbent trike . I don’t plan to do too much long distance riding, but I thought it’d be awesome to have a ~ 200W range extending panel mounted to the rear rack on my HP Velotechnik Scorpion FS 26 trike. It has a bafang BBSHD drive, I have it set to ~ 1200W. I also use a Rohloff. My battery situation is 35amphours @ 48V.
    My question for you or anyone out in UA-camland is: do you think 200W of solar is enough to power a trike for basic range extension? I live in San Mateo CA which is 20 mi south of San Francisco.

      In California it would be worth it! you would probably get an extra 1000wh a day!

    Your videos are inspiring me to do my first journey next summer across Canada and then go from there. I will vlog it to my UA-cam channel. I would like to design a solar trailer and possibly make it smaller than yours. Any suggestions? It will be a winter project. I plan to build it and make videos to share.

    Great vids, I love them. I want to build my own solar trailer.
    Maybe a stupid question, but how do you charge the bike while riding? You just connect your charge controller in parallel to your battery???

    • @JackButlerVideos
      @JackButlerVideos  5 років тому +1

      Yea that's basically it!

    • @azama4182
      @azama4182 5 років тому +2

      @@JackButlerVideos That's great to know :)
      But should I connect the charge controller to the battery charge connector (on the battery itself) or should I just connect all the positive and negative wires itself?

    • @losingthegrid6856
      @losingthegrid6856 4 роки тому

      @@azama4182 yeah you'll need a reliable solar controller, and probably an inverter to charge e bike depending on nominal charge voltage of battery.

    • @JackButlerVideos
      @JackButlerVideos  4 роки тому +2

      No an inverter would be too wasteful. The charge controller just connects parallel to the battery

    With you having rode thru a lot of countries did you have any preconceptions about various countries (like we always do) that were smashed to pieces when you saw and travelled thru them together with speaking to or received attention and help from people?
    I think that with you being so far away from home, doing something major, people know you've had a long way to go at times and the good side of humans has come thru and they help you and wish you well on your journey.

      reggiep75 Yes absolutely!! I have really tried to show others this on my Facebook page, Search jack butler - suntrip2018. I have posted lots of little stories about amazing people on the route. 100W of CIGS costs around $300-400 so thats 3x more than lightweight flexible panels
