- The Pussycat Dolls may have started as a neo-burlesque troupe but they ended up as an internationally successful girl group that took over the world of pop music. They were hardly an overnight sensation though. In fact, their evolution began in the mid ‘90s far from any recording studio as the brainchild of a California native that just wanted to dance.

Right! She was on a talent show in search of a SOLO deal literally right before signing with PCD. She also ("allegedly" *rolls eyes) slept with the music execs for her deal with PCD as Melody was the original lead singer and had already recorded some vocals. She's a selfish snake, and PCD was a setup up just like Destiny's Child was.

Pretty much! And also, it is a lowdown dirty shame that Cammit & Melody never gotten the opportunity to show the public that they were/are pretty good in the lead vocalist role.
Nicole Scherzinger was also on the reality show Popstars before PCD. It was on the WB network I think. I watched it religiously when it aired back in the day lol

Great video but you got a few things wrong in your video.
1.) Carmit didn’t leave to pursue a solo career, she messed up her foot and while she was recovering the group continued on without telling her.
2.) Nicole’s vocals were mainly used because a lot of those songs were meant for her shelved debut album ‘Her Name Is Nicole’. On Doll Domination each member was given a solo song.
3.) Nicole originally wanted to use PCD as a springboard for her a new solo career after her failed group Eden’s Crush. Management never told the other women about Nicole’s solo career aspirations when they came into the group.
Justice for Eden's Crush, they had a very good album
Carmit left the group to go solo. It was Jessica who got left behind after getting injured. She talked about it in an interview saying that she even ended up homeless for a while and had to sleep on a friend’s couch because of it.

The songs on the first album were not meant for Nicole’s debut album. It was the tracks on the second album that were originally meant for Nicole’s debut album (her name is Nicole)
@@GodsFaveSim Doll Domination was majority Nicole’s debut album. She says it in the VH1 documentary and you can also search a lot of the songs and find them by Nicole alone. ❤️

Great video, I knew about the shady passed from what actress Elise Neal claimed about them stealing a song, and other questionable things, I've noticed that groups that are put together never last long, they will sell records or never get to record any songs, and then get dropped by their label, it's a tough business.
I didn't care for them as a group but it seems as if it was a lot of discourse between all of them.
I was OBSESSED with The Pussycat Dolls in high school. Like CRAZY OBSESSED! I listened to their music so much the CD was scratched up lol💿
I actually called my brother after school & told him to stop whatever he was doing & come all the way down to Times Square to The Virgin Megastore so he could buy me their second album (Doll Domination)!😂😂 It was that serious!😂 I still remember that day,it was 09/23/08😊

I just hate how Tori Alamaze was robbed of her song. She sang it way better and it was Fcd up how Ceelo didn't feel like she fitted the image of the song
They’ve been doing this to black artists for decades. Look at Big Mama Thornton and Houndog. Elvis took it and stole her thunder.
Tori actually left the label and gave up her rights to it. Cee-lo had her blessing to give the song to the Pussycat Dolls.

I always felt they were a-GIMMICK-no real singing talent,now that i know their origins,I was-RIGHT-LOL. GOOD video about their history tho,I enjoyed it. I also felt there were-TOO-people in their group,3 women would have been fine.
In other words, Melody was like "I am NOT a fucking backup dancer, I am a singer, I was trained to sing, I signed on to sing, and now I pursue jobs where I actually get to you know....SING!"

Shout out to Elise Neal.
PCD will always be one of my favorite girl groups of all times. However I never liked there was a strong push for Nicole S. to be the lead singer and mostly, only singer. It was like PCD featuring Nicole S. She always had the most close ups meanwhile the other women did not have as much or had to share close ups with other members. IMO, Melody was the stronger vocalist and Ashley and Jessica were the better dancers. I wished the animosity and favoritism did not destroy a wonderful bond of a talented, beautiful group. Maybe one day, we will get a reunion yet I highly doubt there will be a world tour.
Believe it or not, I found the Pussycat Dolls through Paul van Dyk. Jessica Sutta sang on his track "White Lies," which is still one of my all-time favorite singles. Went back then and caught up with all those sweet PCD pop hits. I had NO IDEA of all the drama going on behind the scenes!

I really think they should’ve let the other girls sing alittle bit. There’s a clip that I saw of Melody singing buttons when Nicole was occupied, and it sounded just as good.. it was refreshing to hear her

Some of y’all might want to go back and actually listen to their last studio album because Melody and Ashley is heavily on that album lol and many of the girls auditioned singing and knew how to sing but for some reason were pushed into background I guess to make Nicole a star but it’s like once PCD went away Nicole career did also.. but yeah on their last album Doll Domination Melody is the main one who I can hear the most loudly on several songs especially at the end of “Whatcha Think About That” and plus due to backlash there was a deluxe edition of the girls solo songs they recorded added to the album lol
When some of these girl groups become popular, it seems like there's one member that seems to get the center of attention, maybe not intentionally though. Other than Nicole of PCD, other good examples are: Diana Ross/The Supremes, Beyonce/Destiny's Child, Suzanna Hoffs/The Bangles, Siobhan Fayhey/Bananarama, Chyna Phillips/Wilson Phillips, just to name a few.
I was hoping the reunion with new song react would be different and having the others sing parts but same formula of Nicole being shown main focus in vid as well as song. No wonder melody declined re joining reunion as it was gonna be the same

They had great potential. Their sophomore album was well crafted and could've been a huge success, but it lacked the vocal distribution it really need to not sound like a "Nicole solo album". Melody did finally get to sing more leads on that project, but still not much. Their voices compliment each other well, so it's shocking that she wasn't utilized as a true 2nd lead singer. Nicole's solo albums could never garner mass interest (though the music was fire), but people paid attention when it was PCD. Obviously the interest was in the group and not just Nicole. The label really screwed themselves over by solely focusing on trying to launch Nicole as a solo star. It's about timing and they were trying to rush it and force it. The fans weren't having it. And when the other members left after the Doll Dominaton tour, their fans left with them.

This group should have been managed by a firm manager who could keep their egos in check and remind them that they need to work together because its best for business.
