I think that the season 2 is truly amazing, the redemption of Thorfin, is what I've wanted from the start. I love Askeladd and Thorkell I liked Knut but I couldn't understand Thorfinn so I wanted him to realize what he wanted to do will change nothing to his father's death. And in season 2 he becomes a character I can sympathize with, he understood what it is to be a true warrior.
In an interview the mangaka said he hated violence, doing 8 tomes on the first part and only 6 on the redemption (of course there's still more than 10 volume left) ; I can't imagine myself writing so much about something I hate without being biased.
But after all this is just my opinion, but I was just thinking it would be interesting to see why you didn't liked the season 2

If the anime was only blood, gore and fighting I wouldn’t be as into it as I am now. I’m interested in a well written narrative not just a brawl. If watching a blood bath is what your after just skip dialogue and go straight to the fight scenes
