- This piece is inspired by my time living in rural Oregon, and particularly the joy and amazement of seeing the bright stars against the pitch-black night sky. Lying in an open field, surrounded by nature, staring up at the constellations of stars in the dead of night, a variety of feelings would inhabit my body: there was a beautiful, enchanting, surreal quality to the experience, but the enormity of the celestial landscape is also plainly overwhelming, and always retained the potential to inspire a mini existential crisis. “Stargazing” seeks to capture and physicalize this layered, uncanny, mystical experience.
