    Viridian Green is quite interesting in Mixes with the reds that's in the QOR set.

    The Qor viridian green has a different pigment than the Cotman viridian green. the Cotman viridian green has the same pigment as pthalo green, the qor has a PG 18 while Cotman Viridian green has a PG7 and PG 18 is not as pigmented even in artist grade.

      Thanks for the info, that’s quite interesting. I was surprised it wasn’t as pigmented. I almost feel I’d prefer something like a hookers green in my palette instead.

      @@LeanneLandArt Real Viridian is PG18, and is a natural earth pigment. Its not as intense as you'd 'expect' from other colors (that are usually inorganic pigments, usually intense), but it is pigmented for its specific pigment. PG18 is granulating (compared to PG7 - normally a viridian substitute nowadays which is non-granulating) and has soft green tone. It is an option for those who do not like using Phthalos and some do not like its 'unnatural intensities'.

    I started with qor and bought the sets of 6 slowly as they went on sale. My fave is the Quinacridone Gold personally

      Ohh, that's a good idea! Quinnacridone Gold is sooooo nice, it's the only paint I've seen that changes colour based on it being saturated or diluted. Qor's are my fav! 😊

    Permanent alizarin crimson is made from 3 pigments so the color isn’t exactly most saturated.also Quinn gold is actually made from quinacridone deep gold and nickel azo yellow. And lastly Denise from in liquid color has real time swatches for qor and she includes the pyrrol red deep ;)

    • @LeanneLandArt
      @LeanneLandArt  5 років тому +1

      That makes sense for Alizarin Crimson to not be as saturated for that reason. I’ve actually looked over Denise’s video a few times, just trying to decide which red I think I would like best! 😊 I didn’t know Quinn gold was made from those colours, that’s pretty cool! After traveling with Nickel Azo Yellow, I love it a lot more than I first did, it’s so pretty!

    Someone already explained what happened with the viridian here and I want to add that the same is the case with the phthalo blue. There is PB15:3 and PB15:6, they're both phthalo blue but one is greener than the other. Without checking the pigment you don't know which one exactly you're replacing. The same thing happened to me when I upgraded to watercolors and probably to many other artists.
    To avoid confusion, some brands add "hue" when, with cadmium colors for example, cheaper pigments were mixed to achieve the same color and/or opacity.
    In general, in artist grade watercolors the pigments show more of their unique characteristics. That means earth tones will be more dull and often granulating, some pigments like cobalt violet are very soft with little color payoff and other colors like viridian rewet very badly. That doesn't mean the paint is of bad quality, it's just how that pigment behaves.
    Your art is just beautiful! The way you paint everyday things makes them so much more interesting.

      Thank you so much for that info. I didn’t realize the word ‘hue’ is used when cheaper pigments are included to achieve a similar result, that’s really useful to know. I’m still learning about pigments and discovering which ones and properties I like best. I used to prefer granulating ones but I don’t think I do as much anymore.
      Thank you for the kind comments on my art as well. The daily drawings are something I started just before the beginning of the year and I’m really enjoying the process of those! 😊💕

      @@LeanneLandArt Just chiming in - Hue doesn't always mean "cheaper" it just means "replacement". for example, Alizarin Crimson is a popular pigment but it is known to be fugitive (meaning it fades). That said, it's a popular historic colors. Many manufactures now sell "Alizarin Crimson Hue" meaning they used modern, lightfast pigments to mix to a historic color that isn't lightfast.
