I've been a chinchilla owner for 5 and a half years now. I remember how much I loved chinchillas by watching videos on UA-cam and I really wanted to buy one. I'm guilty of not paying so much attention to him nowadays but I'm trying to talk to him and take him out and pet him every now and then. This video also reminded me how much magical these animals seemed to me some years ago and npw it's reality to me XD For example you mentioned how good it feels to pet them and it's like a treat being able to pet such an animal every day. I had forgotten how lucky I am for this. Also I really like your channel. Keep it up good job! :) Your videos are very instructive and fun
RacoonGreg I’m so glad to hear that. Yes, some days I feel like he’s more of a burden than a joy and every time I need to stop myself and take a step back I remind myself how privileged I am to own him. 😊
I like that you described what you meant by low maintenance. Yes chinchillas have a very easy but strict diet to follow. However sometimes people don’t realize that there are many things that are not considered low maintenance such as TONS of social stimulation (especially if the person only has one), maintaining a room temperature below 75 degrees consistently, making sure they have enough room to run and play, keeping them safe from everyday household materials that can be harmful to them such as wires DRYER SHEETS(very deadly) etc making sure their cage is big enough, making sure they’re healthy(ears feel soft and velvety, no crud around eyes and nose, smooth fur the chinchilla is not biting chunks of fur off, teeth are filed down, no slobber around mouth). I viewed some of your vids and I recently subscribed. you know your stuff. Keep it up!!
jeff goldbloom Yes, you are completely right. Chinchillas are not just cats or dogs that you can leave to roam alone all day. They need to be well taken cared of and watched. And I’m so glad I can help others out there with the proper way to do all that😊💕
I know that this is an older video but it is very helpful! I have had my chinchilla for over a month and she was ill within 2 weeks of getting her from petsmart with a UTI and if I didn’t notice the change in her stool I would have never known because she hid it so well with how she continued to play and eat. Thank you so much for your information!!
Very informative. Their teeth don't continue to grow like other rodents? I would like to hear what the Chinchilla has to say about all this. Do they like humans, or merely tolerate us? They sure are fast, do they try to escape?
Most Chinchillas do chew, like most pet rodents their teeth groe continously their whole lives. Even if they dont chew on their hammocks, it doesnt mean they cant. Chinchillas hearing is more sensitive than a humans, but they hear similar frequencies to humans. Putting your chin a quiet place is a good idea, because loud noises can upset them. They need dust baths 4-5 times a week, so you have to be ready to deal with all that dust.
Jadelyn George that’s honestly ridiculous even if you got it from a breeder or something because the highest price I’ve seen was 150 but I got mine for 80
Rabbits themselves don't smell, it's mostly their urine, every so often their scent glands but rabbits themselves, nope. I have 2 rabbits and the smelling issue we have is their litterbox. If there's anyone that has rabbits and you're having smell issues I suggest watching 101rabbits' newest video. Also did you add rabbits to the rodent family? If so that's not correct, rabbits are Lagomorphs. (Sorry if I spelled that wrong) By the way, loving your chinchilla videos! Very educational and cool, keep up the great work!
I don’t know if they’re all this way, but our little girl is super cuddly and loves scratches under her chin. We got ours from a breeder who literally hand raised her and made her sweet from birth. So ours is a cuddle bug.
I've been binging your channel and I am loving it! One thing I have been noticing tho as a rabbit owner is that you mention rabbits a lot😅 rabbits shouldnt have a smell if taken care of well (littertrained, litter is kept clean, given enough space, ect.) And rabbits arent rodents, they're lagomorphs. The only thing that may have a smell concerning rabbits is their hay, I use orchard grass so it's not as bad as timothy but the rabbit themselves are practically odorless. My inner rabbit mom felt compelled to say that😂 I am really loving your channel tho and have subscribed❤
I have an older male, I then got a female. I introduced them by putting their cages together slowly. Once I added her they seem to like each other. I keep my eye out. I have a 5 story cage at the time I had no idea they ate wood as much!! I wish I got metal. I give them dried strawberries once a day. They sleep in the back extra room. The older boy loves attention and the girl doesn't. My question is do they mate. what do I do? Separate them. It's hard to find this info. I've had guinea pigs years ago they mated like crazy. I know they are different and I can't find much. Do I separate after I find out or maybe she won't, thanks
Question. I got my parents to think about getting a Chinchilla. But my problem is im allergic to the dust bath. So how would I be able to give them the dust bath without breaking out?

I need your help I am getting a chinchilla but my mom can't buy 2 chin and in pet smart there is a chin that live alone should I buy that's chinchilla and it lives alone in his cage can I do that?
It takes me like 20 minutes to sweep my chinchilla cage lol. My cage is a bit different tho. The doors are small and it’s hard to reach. There’s 6ish floors. I sweep it daily. I have two chinchillas living in one cage so there’s more poop to sweep. They’re not “easy” to take care of but they’re not too hard once you get into a good routine.
I’m in the current process of getting one and doing all the research as possible:) We are ordering the cage offline since we found a great deal! I hope to have the little fella in the next week!
Hi, i have a question. How can you keep the blankets in the cage on the right place becaus when I put my blankets in the cage they bitting on it and they move it around the cage.
Hi, I was thinking of buying a chinchilla buts have some questions before I do. 1) Do you recommend a gender 2) Where is a good place to buy a chinchilla? 3) If I have school, will it be okay home alone? If you are reading this, thanks for your patients.
Sarah Travis 1. I’ve never had a girl but I’ve been told it doesn’t really matter. 2. A good place is a breeder or rescue (but if you don’t have those options within hours of home a pet store is the last place you can go to. I don’t recommend it but it’s a choice. Also you can try looking up ads for chinnies online in your area) 3. Chinchillas are usually mostly sleepy in the day time so it’s totally okay if you leave for most of the day. Nathalie & The Bunnies 1. Usually I recommend being a few years older than that. They are not very good for children and often they get bored fast since most Chinchillas dislike being held. 2. There is only one breed in domestication, which is the long tailed chinchillas😊 3. You cannot have Chinchillas in a cage with any other animal species, especially rabbits who have to have a completely different cage set up. 4. Treats can be given a few times a week. In a chinchilla cage can you use paper bedding such as carefresh Or do they need to have fleece bedding? Also for a chinchilla wheel is it ok to use s plastic plastic wheel cause I know it’s not good for them to have plastic in their cage but all the good wheels are plastic.
Guyroo 5 Actually, all the bad wheels are plastic. Don't buy anything from any pet stores because the Chinchilla labeled wheels are not only plastic, but far too small. The wheel needs to be at least 15 inches in diameter and wooden or metal. I have a video on Good And Bad Chinchilla Wheels you should watch. Also, carefresh isn't a good choice because it is paper based and not healthy for Chinchillas to digest, but you don't only have to use fleece. You can use particular wood shavings but there are also many toxic kinds out there so make sure you do your research. I have a video on Chinchilla beddings as well. Hope this helped!:)
Guyroo 5 actually, The Chinchilla Notebook isn’t a professional nor does she know health facts as correct as professionals like the UA-cam channel “Happy Tails”. Carefresh is the best bedding for chinchillas. It is true that Carefresh isn’t too good for chinchillas to digest, but most chinchillas will NOT eat it since it doesn’t taste Goodall as long as they have toys to play with. UA-cam is a great platform to get info from, but make sure that you also get facts from people who actually went to school for this. In no way am I trying to offend The Chinchilla Notebook, but a 12 year old isn’t the best source for important health info.
Alright, first of all yes, I am not a professional and nor have I gone to school. But assuming my age and using your guess to infer that I don't know what I'm talking about is kind of rude. There was a way of getting your point across without guessing my age and bringing it into this. (you are quite off on the age guess, by the way. I mean, I suppose the camera makes me sound like a little kid) :D Secondly, I just researched Carefresh bedding and found that you're right: it is a safe bedding to use for chinchillas. I mistakened it for Kaytee bedding which is bad, and I apologize. Sorry for the mistake! I do have experience with chinchillas and I have my reasons for staying away from any beddings besides fleece because I have bad experiences with past beddings with other chinchillas. For me, all bedding besides fleece and tile scare me because of my experiences with them so naturally the first thought was that it was bad. And I have put nothing of my age or every experience I've had on the internet, either. But I do appreciate that you saw and corrected my mistake (I'm not perfect as everyone can clearly see!) :)
I know this was made like 3 years ago but if u see this I am soo happy to find this because im getting a chinchilla this weekend (new chinchilla owner 😁)
you probably shouldn't give them more than 3-5 SMALL ones at any given time but definitely don't give them to him/her every day, 2 times a week minimum
@@TheChinchillaNotebook thank you so much I actually just finished watching one of your videos where you mentioned that I love your videos so much and they help me a lot on caring for my chinchilla and you even inspired me to start my own UA-cam channel

Aren't Chinchillas supposed to be really sensitive to sound? And you have Merlin right next to the appliance in the house that makes the most noise....wtf
Blu Murder I don’t have Merlin in the laundry anymore, he has his own apartment now. But even when he lived there, he became accustomed to louder sounds. The dryer and washer were never very noisy anyway though😊💕
I looked it up and it said that some do not like to cuddle but some do so and also u can give them treats but not a lot like one piece every two weeks or something

My little half wit grandson got him a Chincilla he had his sister Bethleen knit him a sweater. I swear neither one them kids is too bright. Bethleen has one sleeve longer than the other and the damn thing barley fit the damn chinchilla What got even more ridiculous my screwball son encouraged them kids to make a top hat like Abe Lincoln for him. They had this crazy damn out fit on the animal. Then things started getting crazy, my wife found some sunglasses that came with Behtleen's Barbie doll, and put them on the furry little varmint. Then on top of that they made the chinchilla ride around on a Roomba vacuum with a little american flag tied to his tail, If I hadn't seen it myself I would never believed it. Them half-wit grand kids like to drive me nuts on a daily basis.
I dont know a lot about chinchillas but even I know that you shouldn't keep them alone since they're social animals. I don't get how you can love animals and treat them badly at the same time

I'm thinking about getting a chinchilla, don't know tho,, should I get one?
Dave Dickinson It depends on whether you’re ready and if you’re up for the responsibilities💕
Love your videos!
Very helpful, thank you
Amazing video! So helpful! 👌☺️
How many treats should you give your chinchilla a day?
you probably shouldn't give them more than 3-5 SMALL ones at any given time but definitely don't give them to him/her every day, 2 times a week minimum
Bengal Cat you should give a treat maybe once or twice a week
Strictly one treat once a week.
Is it ok if my dog barks for like a minutes when people come through the door?
They might be a little scared but you should keep them in a room where they can bearly hear. But yes that is fine
Rabbits actually have no smell. The only thing that would smell would be their enclosure. By the way love ur channel!
I have a question my friend told me that dust baths are bad for chinchillas and that I should rather give them a sand bath is this true?
berkley beard No. sand is definitely the one that’s bad. Its too rough and coarse on their fur and it’s damaging. Dust is the way to go😌
@@TheChinchillaNotebook thank you so much I actually just finished watching one of your videos where you mentioned that I love your videos so much and they help me a lot on caring for my chinchilla and you even inspired me to start my own UA-cam channel
u seem so nice! love u guys
bianca logan Aww thank you!💕
I’m probably going to get one
Great name for a chinchilla great contacts🤩
I can not wait to get my chinchilla!!Coco
Do you know if chinchillas will eat hammocks
Prototype .-. Um...no

Omg my parents are finally letting me get a chinchilla! I have literally wanted a chinchilla ever since I was 2! I'm 12 btw, so I have wanted one for 10 years!
I'm making little me's dreams come true UwU
Rabbits don’t smell
They most definitely can. Ive owned quite a few.
Oh they do
They really smell
They only smell if you don't clean up after them...their urine smells ..not them.
Susan Jones you must not be cleaning up after them
Love this video
Aren't Chinchillas supposed to be really sensitive to sound? And you have Merlin right next to the appliance in the house that makes the most noise....wtf
Blu Murder I don’t have Merlin in the laundry anymore, he has his own apartment now. But even when he lived there, he became accustomed to louder sounds. The dryer and washer were never very noisy anyway though😊💕
The last one put me off so much, I thought they were cuddly but, I want a cuddly one.
I looked it up and it said that some do not like to cuddle but some do so and also u can give them treats but not a lot like one piece every two weeks or something
Slime Queen thanks for your help, but unfortunately my mum said I can’t get one anyway. When we move house, I can get a puppy!
Ear Muffs It depends on the personality some love it
The starting point with any animal can be expensive
Thanks. Please note that chinchillas are social animals and need to be with other chinchillas- at least one more.
Sharon Hudson btw she has said her chinchilla can’t be living with others and yes she is already aware that they are very social animals
wAiT they’re like 200 dollars!? Oop I skipped over that thinking most pets were cheap and the equipment was what’s pricey
Do a Tour
I got my chinchilla from a friend that's a breeder for $100 each!
Every night before I go to bed my chinchilla jumps into my arms from 5-10 minutes
My chinchilla love's to cuddle but the info was great
I am getting 2 chinchillas in a few weeks
Fran Gaming That’s awesome! So excited for you💕
Good! Chinchillas are meant to be owned in pairs. It can cause depression if you don’t have two.

pROS talk about threat, I give give My Chinchikka dog shi. he threating loves it. also walnuts-
I would LOVE to have a chinchilla as a pet.......if my mom would let me
My little half wit grandson got him a Chincilla he had his sister Bethleen knit him a sweater.
My guineapig doesn’t smell
I rarely even give my dog treats so that won’t be a problem
I dont know a lot about chinchillas but even I know that you shouldn't keep them alone since they're social animals. I don't get how you can love animals and treat them badly at the same time
Fee Müller especially since chinchillas are very sensitive animals. They can get depression if they don’t have a chinchilla friends
The fact they live that long can be a con actually . At this point it's better to get a cat in my opinion .
They can live 20 plus years
Actually a otter is the softest animal in the world
Well saying that they are the SOFTEST is an opinion, I think you meant that otters have the THICKEST fur.
sorry if I sound like a jerk
@@ellieeile your not a jerk thats what I meant they do have the thickest fur in the world but if you touch otter fur it is softer than anything you would ever feel
Wow chinchillas are very expensive in the US, last time I was in my local petstore in the UK they were prices around £40 which is think is around 60-70 dollar's
nah, most of the time they’re around £150 here in the UK
@@rachl13 I seen them in pets at home about 2 years ago for around £40 each
@@rachl13 I got the same cage as her all the accessories and supplies and 2 17week old chinchillas for £300
When she said it was the softest animal in the world I was like........um no way...... *goes to safari and searches softest animal in the world*.....oh guess I was w-wrong
You can't cuddle your chin?
Can you pick them up and like cuddle i guess you can say...?
Maintain-ance killed me...
Hamsters live three years not one Lol
One
*Merlin* *Murlin*
You are not suppose to clean up all of their poop. They eat it and it’s required for their diet.
That's wrong. You do need to clean it. If you dont, it doesn't smell good and it can pose a health hazard to your chinchilla
Do you have chinchillas? They eat poop but you need to clean it
❤❤❤
Jesus loves you pray to god !
Their poop don't smell but the pee.. Guys the pee is disgusting.
it isn’t meant to smell, your chin is dehydrated or you don’t clean their cage right
@@marcusmillerr no I don’t think, he drinks a lot of water and clean his cage every day. I will take il him to the vet, thanks
I'm glad my bun and pigy don't smell
