This reference older than this game.
You should revisit the totem otk. Start by playing a shudderblock into a stonewright, followed by another shudderblock. Then on combo turn play mr smite, mistake, splitting axe. The shudderblock triples the battery of weapon giving you 51 attack dmg in total
Lab Patron effect is not misleading. It would be, if after plaing it and gaining armor 2 times you would have 4 lab patrons, but you have only 3.
It is kinda misleading. The more appropriate statement would be "Once per turn, when you gain armor, summon another Lab Patron."
The statement they have with the "The first time you gain armor each turn" is also used in similar other mechanics, which only proc when you do something for the first time during your turn. Think of Love Everlasting, which states that your first spell each turn costs 2 less. Playing it on your turn does not make the next spell cost 2 less, because you've already played a spell this turn (Love Everlasting).
If the text was precise, you'd have only 2.
I think it is misleading, but it’s not incorrect
The effect triggers once for the original Lab Patron and only that one time for that specific minion per turn. The brand new Lab Patron triggers once when you gain armor for the first time since he has existed on the board. It works as phrased and as intended. It's similar to how token minions with Spellburst work - each new minion has its own Spellburst effect that can trigger. I imagine if the effect didn't refresh each turn, they would've given it the Spellburst icon instead of the continuous effect lightning bolt icon. That would visually make more sense I'm sure.
Also consider that Kalecgos effect which is also worded “first” and consumes his effect regardless of his presence on the board or in hand (if you got kalecgos from drakefire amulet, his effect does not carry to the next spell). It really should say once per turn, gaining armor a second time triggering the second effect is misleading because it’s not the first time you’ve gained armor that turn. It’s obvious it works as intended to be inline with the other patrons but “the first time you gain armor each turn” is flatly inconsistent with other first cards that already exist and how their interactions resolve.
Also, does lab patron trigger on your opponents turns if you happen to gain armor (like through a deathrattle)?
The only way this could be better would be if you can play enough dragons to get Grimmer Patron from Kazakusan, almost certainly more trouble than it's worth though.

I don’t want to sound rude but I have a very hard time believing anyone actually thought that lab patron only ever worked once a turn. It’s very obvious to me that each patron makes one with its effect refreshed.
It does not matter whether the effect is refreshed. The game state has changed. The first time you gain armor during a turn is a specific game event that is gone once the second patron enters the battlefield. From there on, you can only gain armor the second, third, ... time that turn.
For it to correctly work as it does, the text should be "The first time each turn you gain armor while this is on the battlefield, summon another Lab Patron."
I didn't even know the armour patron existed, let alone how it worked lol

Its not misleading because the effect happens on the new summoned patron not the original
But it's no longer the first time you gained armor that turn, it's just the first time the new patron "saw it"

I don't think Lab Patron is misleading at all. It says that you summon another Lab Patron, not a copy. It's obvious that the effect will reset.
It says "the first time you gain armor this turn" so even if the new patron hasn't triggered yet, if you gain armor again it's not technically the first time youve gained armor in the turn. It should read "the first time I see you gain armor this turn" and it would make sense
@@bigred745 this is rational implicit assumption in card text. Minion on board cannot react to game event, if it does not exist yet.
@@bigred745 This is Legends of Runeterra wording. Afaik there are no cards in the game that say "when I see" or that treat themselves as subject in the wording. It makes perfect sense as is.
So by that logic if I play a Game Master, play a secret for one cost, then play another Game Master the next secret should cost one as well. But the second game Masters effect will not trigger and the secret will still be full cost. It's just misleading based on how pervious cards work with similar text

"The first time you gain armor" doesn't retroactively count the armor that spawns a Lab Patron. Took me a second, but that is a more interesting effect than I first thought.

Why was arena patron ever printed as a 5 mana card? Even at 3 mana it would still be barely playable in *any* era of hearthstone.
