    your chisel sounds like woodpeckers, and they protect us from squirrels. so i feel pretty safe and secure when watching these videos. thank god for the woodpeckers.

    You ever notice how easy it is to watch a true artist perform their art? This is one those artists. It’s a joy to see such complex joints made with such ease and by hand. I don’t believe a cnc mill could produce this level of quality given 5 times the amount of time it took for this man to do it by hand.

    A simple wooden work bench, saw, mallet, hammer, giant C clamp, ball point pen, and a few chisels is all this master craftsman needs to make these beautiful and intricate joint puzzle locks.

    I cannot add to the other compliments written here. He is an example of old world carpentry. Did you notice the only electric operated device in his shop is a single light bulb.

    I love all of it and my favorite parts are the chisel work. Just watching a master at work is great - no matter what he makes. Great thing about Japanese joinery is it’s beautiful and it works. It fits together for a purpose.

    • @thedolphin5428
      @thedolphin5428 10 місяців тому

      No, it was not originally "pure art". It was originally, and still is, used for practical construction. Yes, these modern showpieces are ARTFUL, but only because Japanese craftsmen were/are artisans, ie artists who made useful and beautiful stuff. Too many Westerners today just make self-indulgent, sponsored, wanky art to show off. Let's see them build a 7 story temple with their skills. Too much of YT is what I call "comfort viewing" -- vicarious entertainment. Reality is far more real than art and deserves much higher praise than a hobbyist with a very sharp chisel.

    • @thedolphin5428
      @thedolphin5428 10 місяців тому

      Then go to Japan; find a Master; study and practice for years; let your personality and spirit be transformed through the *process* ; more than just "wanting" the skill or the end product.
