Ohne Pinzetten geht im Modellbau wenig. In diesem Video zeige ich euch, welche Pinzetten ich verwende und wie man Pinzetten neu anschleifen kann, falls sie sich mit der Zeit etwas abgenützt haben. Ein Modell baut sich einfacher mit gutem Werkzeug!
Building a model without tweezers is hard. In this video i am showing you the tweezers i am using and how i resharpen them after they became a bit worn out. It is easier to build a model with good tools!

I have a similar pair made for electronics work, one straight and one curved. Your grinding technique is very good, as a woodworker I appreciate accuracy in my blade edges.

Today I learned that in addition to Michael being a great modeler he also likes to collect inappropriate and decrepit tweezers. :D I have the Tamiya tweezers that look like your watchmaking ones and they are superb. Thanks for the video. :)
indeed, i can not always be a good example :) i have no doubt that other tamiya tools are way better than the one i have, there is probably a reason why it came with the kit (i think it was the renault chenillette).

Super! Vielen Dank für das informative Video. Habe mir vorher darüber nicht so recht Gedanken gemacht. Das Tool wird sofort nachgebaut. Ich werde die Flächen hälftig teilen in 600/1000 Schleifpapier.
bitteschön :) eine etwas größere und dickere glasplatte ist zu empfehlen, dann bekommt man das schleifpapier auch gut unter. es gibt auch schleifpapier als klebefolie, das hatte der baumarkt aber nicht vorrätig.

I like the method for refurbishing you show. I've done something similar with a file, but this is more exact ....good tip. now I am hankering after a pair of Swiss watchmaker tweezers though !
cheers mark! the glassplate sanding thing can be used for various tasks, especially when you want to get a perfectly even surface or perfect angles. watchmaker tweezers are kinda expensive, but just so much better!
Cheers Michael, I must admit I have always drawn the paper through the tips to get them parallel, I guess a thin bathroom wall tile would be an acceptable substitute for the glass (I use one for cutting PE)
sure, a very even stone would do the job as well. it just have to be very solid!
Und dieses überaus nützliche Video habe ich bisher genau weswegen verpasst? Ich glaube es nicht! In 40 Jahren habe ich noch keine einzige vernünftige Pinzette besessen. Ganz sicher aus Geiz und weil ich diesem Werkzeug nicht die Bedeutung zugemessen habe, die ihm zukommt. Ich halte es zwar für unwahrscheinlich, dass ich meine derzeitigen "Pinzetten" auf auch nur annähernd diesen Standard tunen kann, aber bis ich mir eine oder zwei hochwertige Pinzetten leisten kann, weiß ich jetzt doch wenigstens, worauf es ankommt und wie man sie pflegen kann. Die Sache mit den gezahnten Spitzen kann ich nur bestätigen. Ich mag sie auch nicht, vor allem dann nicht, wenn ich ein kleines Plastikteil richtig gut festhalten muss. Mit etwas Pech haben sich die Zähne in das Teil gefressen. Und dank dieses Videos ist mir auch endlich klar, warum ich beinahe täglich gegen das "Teppichmonster" kämpfen muss. Sehr gut! Es lohnt halt, dass Du im Uhrmacherhandwerk arbeitest. :)
Dafür ist es ja im internet, dann kann man es jederzeit anschauen :) Gute pinzetten sind jetzt nicht schweineteuer, ich denke viel ist schon mit einem mittelmäßigen modell getan auf das man einfach gut aufpasst.

Vielen Danke I bought the pair you had suggested and they work great for photo etched parts.As for the rest I no longer call them tweezers , plastic part rocket launchers seems more apt.

Nice video. Do you handle the photo etched parts with the tweezers? I mean to bend them, or do you use a specific tool for that? Thank you for the tip to take care about them.
thanks boris. i bend PE with a gripper or that tweezer with the very broad "shovel-like" tip i showed in the video. there are also special bending tools but i do not have any.

mal ne ganz andere frage: Was hältst du eigentlich von der Zeitschrift ModelFan??
hab ich abonniert. sind oft ein paar nette sachen drin und ich mag den querschnitt durch den gesamten plastikmodellbau. die artikel zu lesen finde ich aber meistens recht langweilig, vor allem wenn man den bausatz nicht selbst vor sich liegen hat. ist halt alles immer recht allgemein gehalten, mehr fokus auf eine bestimmte technik pro artikel wäre toll.
Bei mir ist es ähnlich. Die Texte finde ich auch relativ langweilig, was mir am besten gefällt sind die detaillierten Bildreportagen zu jedem Bausatz. Hat mich nur mal interessiert was du dazu sagst. Außerdem noch vielen Dank für die ausführliche Antwort.

I can see what we in t he stamp collecting community call 'stamp tongs', I don't know why :) I think these is what you called 'barbecue tweezers"
i think these are pretty neat for grabbing stamps.
ach du bist uhrmacher, hattest du das mal eher schon erwähnt?
hab sonst immer nur mitbekommen das du mit metall arbeitest ( hatte da irgentwie was anderes vor augen )
auf jeden fall handwerklich begabt :)
ich geh damit eher nicht hausieren, kann sein dass ich das mal erwähnt habe, aber in diesem fall war es unumgänglich. zählt jedenfalls einwandfrei als metallverarbeitender beruf :)
deswegen weiß ich auch das eine oder andere zum thema feilen, schleifen und pinzetten.
Ich wusste doch das du uhrmacher bist, es waren immer andeutungen da aber ganz sicher war ich mir nie :)
brauch ich ja nicht jedem auf die nase zu binden :)

The best way to ruin a pair of tweezers, use them for something they were not intended for, like prying opening a bottle or a can. It’s very unsettling when you come back to your work bench, and there is a pair of bent or damaged tweezers on the table, and no one in the house knows how that happened.
