Good morning! I enjoy your non-partisan election night steams... FYI, that last box came in about 10-15 minutes after you finished the stream! (food for future thought). I have to commend you - you are doing the job that "Canada's National Broadcaster" ought to be doing! THEY have studios out here in Vancouver, BC, and they could easily start their coverage in Ottawa then switch to Vancouver at a certain hour and then carry on. But obviously they are NOT operating as Canada's "National Broadcaster", but rather the Liberals in Ottawa's broadcaster.. and what is the point of giving news to us out West? They aren't going to win many votes out here. And this attitude of course is one of the reasons WHY they won't get many votes out here! But good on you guys!!!
When I saw Craig Sauve with the Palestinian flag on his literature, I knew they must have internal polling showing he was losing. That was a cynical play to Arab Canadian votes that you don't do if you think you are winning the seat.
Thank you Eric and Philippe for your comprehensive coverage, and I listened to your live broadcast on the by-elections on Monday. It's too bad the Bloc Québécois won in Montréal, and then said that they will continue to support the Liberals. Even after the provincial CAC government asked them to quit supporting them. What a mistake by the Bloc.
If you listen to the liberal echo chamber on CBC Rosie Barton, Canadians don't want an election. Seriously, if CBC allowed comments on their programs they would find overwhelming desire for an election now. Comment after comment on many podcasts cite the desire for immediate change in government. We are hungry for a change of direction.
I'm not hungry for a new election. Inflation has been tamed, interest rates are coming down, unemployment has been low for the past 3.5 years, TMX is complete and operational and this government has a carbon rebate/tax programme that is visionary for the country. What exactly is Poilièvre proposing other than "bringing it home" with zero details. A year is a VERY long time in politics. You Tory fans would be wise not to count your chickens before they're hatched. By-elections have never meant anything.
"Interesting" doesn't cover it! I feel badly for young Canadians; given the totally selfishness of all federal political 'leaders' these days. Thanks Justin and Pierre et. al. for being such useless men at a time when we desperately need some creative intelligence.
To add to your commentary on the West and the NDP - I think Manitoba, while it is physically "in the middle", mentally and politically, they are part of the West. Let's face it, politically Canada has only 4 regions: 1) Upper & Lower Canada (Ontario and Québec), 2) The Maritimes, 3) The West and 4) The North. As to the NDP in BC, the fun district to watch come the election will be Skeena-Bulkely Valley (SBV). The rest of Canada should get to know the Conservative Candidate there - certainly he will be cabinet-material - Ellis Ross - former elected-chief of the Haisla First Nation - he was key to negotiating the deal for an LNG Port in Kitimat - he ran 2nd to Kevin Falcon - and I would say that the BC United might well be contenders on October 19th if he had won the leadership. The moment he was selected to represent the Conservatives in SBV, the NDP reacted by appointing the current NDP SBV MP, Taylor Bachrach onto the prominent OGGO Committee to try to raise his profile. I doubt it will work. My option is that Ellis Ross will sail to victory and he would be a natural pick for either Energy, Mines and Resources Minister OR Aboriginal Affairs Minister..
If they lost 15% across the board how many seats would they still have ? We keep seeing them at 26% but a 15% drop would actually put them at 17% nationally. Meaning single digit seats. That would be shocking but is it possible ?
Why don’t government put this call for an election out to the country To see what Canadians want not go by cbc or anyone else all the bi elections must show libs we want one so do it
I think Alberta should withhold the money they give to Quebec to support their poor economy. Alberta can force Quebec to do the right thing. Enough of this holding Canada hostage while the Liberals destroy the country. Let Canada decide what they want.
Alberta can’t do that because all the tax goes to a large pot then gets distributed to the provinces. It’s not a direct payment from one province to another.
That's not how the equalization payment system works. In addition to what Cheryl said above, the provincial CAQ government in Quebec and the federal Bloc Québécois are two separate parties. Even if Alberta could stop its payments from going to Quebec's provincial government, how would this get the Bloc Québécois to vote non-confidence in the federal government?
Conservatives like to say that the government is "destroying" the country. What is the evidence of this? Global inflation which has been tamed better by the Canadian government than any other in the G7? Unemployment, which has been low by any historical standard?
If the Quebec Bloc is not voting to bring down the Federal Liberals Government, the country is in backlash action by NOT visiting the Province of Quebec ! Short-term gain for Quebec Bloc Party to support the Federal Liberals to survive, but LONG-TERM PAIN from the rest of Canada decide to skip the Province of Quebec in any vacations! That's tourism lost, relationship lost, and tax revenues lost ....
Lmao..good luck organizing that boycott. Maybe a Freedom Convoy will spring up against you telling you can’t tell people where to go? Oh no! I’m SURE Quebec is shaking in their boots at the thought of ROC being upset with them..
So let's see if we understand, the voters of Alberta should blackmail and threaten when other regions of the country and their elected representatives don't act as Albertans please? Tories love to accuse Liberals of being in the pocket of Quebec, but the Liberals have won more than 50% of the seats in Quebec exactly twice in the past 40 years, and never more than 75% of the total. Several other parties have also won majorities in Quebec during that same time, including the Conservatives (twice), the NDP (once) and the Bloc Québécois (multiple times). Meanwhile, in Alberta, Conservatives and right-wing parties have won majorities in every election for 90 years, and more than 75% of the total. So which region of the country is really dominated by one political party to the exclusion of others? Hint: it's not Quebec via the Liberal Party. No, it is the Conservative Party in Alberta. This commenter is frustrated that this ridiculous one-sided dominance doesn't apply to the rest of Canada.

Never change, guys. Never change.

Something sincerely wrong with Mr. Sauve.
If I where part of liberal party I would go for election now as defeat will be worse as time goes by.
Good chat guys, as always very enjoyable and informative

Thank you both for all the good info
It will be interesting a conservative majority with the bloc as opposition and the liberals at 30 seats
That very well could be true. The NDP seem to be falling with the Liberals.
"Interesting" doesn't cover it! I feel badly for young Canadians; given the totally selfishness of all federal political 'leaders' these days. Thanks Justin and Pierre et. al. for being such useless men at a time when we desperately need some creative intelligence.

BC's politics have had nothing in common with Alberta and Saskatchewan for about 25 years. It's ridiculous to lump them in together.
"People staying home" is why Trudeau called 2021 snap elections for no reason...just because he wanted to extend his reign

Pronunciation of “lieutenant”: “looootenant”: American. “left-tenant”: British/Canadian.
A prediction of 45 seats for the Bloq. Does that make them the next Official Opposition?
Do youind we need a Rlectoin ow
There is a trust issue with jagmeet singh

After this, they go home to maman! Au revoir!
Would you dudes notice if I decided to run against Higgy et al???

It seems the riding polls were very accurate. If your overall model was used with province wide polls what would have been the result?
