  • Welcome to Kalpanaad Music Academy, where we teach you the basics and nuances of Hindustani classical music. In this video, we will learn about the swara vistar of Raag Bhupali, one of the most popular and soothing ragas in Indian music.
Raag Bhupali belongs to the Kalyan Thaat and uses only five notes: Sa, Re, Ga, Pa, and Dha. It is a pentatonic raga that can be sung in the early night. It has Gandhar as its vadi and Dhaivat as its samvadi. The aroha and avaroha of this raga are:
Aroha: Sa Re Ga Pa Dha Sa’ Avaroha: Sa’ Dha Pa Ga Re Sa
Swara vistar is the process of expanding and elaborating the notes of a raga in a systematic and aesthetic manner. It involves using various techniques such as alankar, meend, gamak, khatka, murki, etc. to create different patterns and phrases that bring out the essence and mood of the raga.
In this video, we will show you how to do swara vistar in Raag Bhupali using simple and easy steps. We will also demonstrate some examples of swara vistar in different octaves and the student will learn how to use the notes of this raga in a creative and expressive way.
