  • In today's video I'm taking you to one of the most famous Historical wrecks in Victoria if not all of Australia, the Loch Ard Wreck. Located in the 12 Apostles Marine Park it is a spectacular boat ride to get there.
I'll show you where to launch, how to get there, the dive profile, what weather conditions you need and if your interested the lights and settings I used to film it with my Gopro Hero 11.
The Loch Ard was launched in Scotland in 1873. She was a three mast steel clipper with a length of 80m
On 1st March 1878 she left Gravesend, Kent bound for Melbourne. On board where a total of 54 people including crew and passengers. Bad weather and heavy fog was encountered as they sailed along the Victorian coast towards Melbourne. In the early hours of the 1st June 1878 she hit Mutton Bird Island, sinking within 10 to 15mins.
The story of tragedy and survival is captivating and if you want to know more then visit the Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum in Warrnambool.

Dive was done using a rEvo CCR and with the Warrnambool Sub Aqua Club. All above water shots taken with Google Pixel 9 Pro and all underwater shots taken with Gopro Hero 11, AOI - UWL 03 and QH18 ebay lights.
Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE and LIKE.
I'll see you in the next one and don't forget the deeper you go the further you are away from all the idiots.

This is your best yet! Loved the use of the map zoom in and out for the boat launch and dive site.
I cannot believe the tiles are still intact.
I agree with you, the trip to the dive site really does rival the actual dive.

Thanks mate. Slowly getting better. Audio is still my biggest headache. Limited area I can use and gear I have. Audio isn't something I've ever had to worry about just filming underwater. The 12 apostles look good from land but even better from a boat. World class scenery.

      Great video Sean!
History can be stranger than fiction & this story is a fine example of that. I'm sure I read somewhere when the ship's captain realised his proximity to the coastline he begun a frantic attempt to turn the ship away which was almost successful, except for presence of mutton bird island. I presume that info came from T. Pearce during the wreck inquiry.

It would have been a horrible realisation seeing those cliffs looming above you. And to think how far they had travelled without issue and so close to melb.
