They were great times n some great drivers.. being part of a team was special..I was with The Ace Scrapping Co...few guest spots for F.Troop..then Super Showmen..Peter Miles Bernie Diment.John Dill.Mick Dansie. to name a few...my fondest memory starting a nights racing at Harringay in a mk3 zodiac a white stripe won 2 races then a final ended the nite a red stripe..and around £17..and 3 plastic trophies..Then a team was put together The Londoners it was to be for a North v the South night we went to Manchester for this we obliterated them in minutes it was carnage we defo was the flash boys ftom down south our cars were so well prepared and was leaps n bounds ahead of ability ..it all kicked off after the race and we ended up getting police escort out of Manchester...the return event was held at Crayford and the promoters made sure there was no repeat of the violence they laid on a nice buffet n party atmosphere....again our racing and wrecking skills were surbline our cars were so well prepared and we.d use every trick in the book to make sure a hard head on wouldn.t stop your car it was good lessons for the Manchester lot to take back and improve the standard of preperation for there future racing.....one of my favourite tracks was Rayleigh and the ensued battles with the team who called themselves The Ahern Rats...what a great fearless outfit they were it was always a highly charged day out... We had some great race nights at Walthamstow although different promoters we.d creep in..there was a team over there called The Rebels who took a few liberties and would dominate every race...and was winning everything.. so few of us managed to get in there we.d painted our cars The Rebel Removers after going in with sheets over our cars so no one knew our intentions..we caused havoc and disposed of them in the 1st couple of laps the place was in uproar as they had a great following.. it kicked off in the pits but we had good numbers following us...in turn it n saw us black listed and banned from racing at Spedeworth events for life...but we did manage one last stand against Spedeworth we managed to get in a race night at Wimbledon with false names etc and again caused havoc we were then surrounded and a mass brawl.ensued with the police escorting us out of the stadium..it was normal back in them days if you was not local to get a bit of rough treatment as our skills at winning and taking liberties was the norm but frowned upon..we went to Brafield one sunday and i must say the fight after one race was very entertaining and got the biggest cheer from the capacity crowd....👍

This sounds great. If only the like of Amazon prime or Netflix were around in those days it would’ve made for a great series.

Uninsurables. Used to perform stunts at the Harlow auto fair at the Town Park. There was a bit of a banger scene up at Henham in the 70s and 80s, a few Harlow lads participating in that.

1:15 - any reason for the unusual number on the Teddy Bears car?

Back then racing these was OK. They were also found in scrapyards that same time. Now it's seen as borderline criminality as they are now classics. That Capri must have been heavily abused for it to end up in this event back then.

Ok back then but not old classics now. The excuses have run out. The only ones left they have are: because we can and get yer money out. Being as banger racers outnumber classic car restorers and their costings for a runner are significantly less than a restorer its not a fair playing field is it. How many P4 doors& dashes and spares do we need if theres no shells to put them on. Ironically i used to watch it at Walthamstow and owned Rover, Jaguar,Daimler MG Magnette/Riley and Fords some of which were nicked for the purpose. Nah stick that roll cage where the sun dont shine and race modern trash.
