Just got mine from grinding back to smooth. Unscrewed the seal part, cleaned the seal and Teflon bearing. Lubed both sides with silicone grease and TF2 Teflon lubricant. Now smooth as silk. Thanks robodude.

The seal that you were not sure about goes on the treads on the seat post itself. It appeared to come from the cap because the cap pulled it off. That's what happened to me anyway. Great vid it helped me a lot. Not my same brand of post but the same set up. Thanks.

This is correct. The o-ring goes at the bottom of the threads, where there's a groove for it.

4:40 - the seal is just below the coil, under your left hand. clearly visible at 5:00. and at 5:08 you took it off with your right hand. :)
the "white" grease is not bad or old, it's a lithium paste which is more durable.
anyway, good video. it helped me a lot to disassembly my merida dropper with much more confidence!

That dropper post you have is very similar to the PNW Bachelor 150 and the Brand-X Ascend dropper posts, you can get a service manual for the Bachelor 150 on the internet, I have the Brand-X Ascend 120mm dropper post :)

the seal you didn't know about has to be in the groove below the threads on the seat collar

I just serviced and had to replace the cartridge in my dropper after only one year. Granted I put 1500km on it and used it throughout the winter on my fat bike. I don't think Canadian winters play nice with droppers in general. Riding in very low temps probably plays havoc on the seals and fluid inside.

This seat post is identical to the Lapierre post I’ve got. It seems the air cartridge is non-adjustable - mine has lost its pressure after very little use and won’t stay up when you sit on it. Pretty junk seatpost unfortunately.

I kinda got scared when you were forcing the stanchion out, you might have created the stanchion. You could have removed the bottom part first which is the actuator then unscrew the seal cap. Also, those brass keys can be removed that way you can take off the whole seal cap and clean it properly.

  • @cianclancy3684

Having just done this, parts of the video really aren't accurate. Undoing the nut at the top has nothing to do with the position of the dropper, as the video would imply. The air spring does not lock in a particular position. This is obvious once you have it apart. To loosen the nut, the best thing to do is unscrew the actuator end instead, and gently grip the bottom of the air spring with mole grips, and undo the top nut.

    •  4 роки тому +1

Done what you told and can't loose the top nut, help me

Do you know how to solve problem with extremely hard (have to push with lots of pressure) remote lever of the Merida’s dropper post? I guess it’s because of non-smooth work of actuator.

    • @jm-btt
      @jm-btt 2 роки тому

You have to grab the cylinder from the bottom, with a plier. This video fail to discover that.

In the video, its a non adjustable dropper post cartidge.
Your one is a dropper post with adjustable air pressure cartidge (which is actually better than the non adjustable because you can adjust speed of it. Thats why there is a difference

Łukasz Amerek not for these models which are essentially the same as the PNW Rainier, Tranz X, Brand X Ascend and Shimano Koryak. There is no Schraeder valve under the saddle. Instead there’s a 10mm but that holds the sealed cartridge in place
