- Here is the complete induction of New York Rangers goalie Eddie Giacomin into the MSG Walk Of Fame with hockey legend Rod Gilbert doing the honors.
My favorite player growing up and watching the Rangers on channel 9, with the former referee Bill "Big Whistle" Chadwick commentating. I would put my little transistor radio under my pillow when I was supposed to be sleeping, and listen to Marv Albert do the play by play. The Rangers fell to the Bruins, with Bobby Orr, in 1972 in six games. I was devastated. But Eddie shut them out one game, and even went after Derek Sanderson near the end. He was always feisty and competitive. A great skater, and puck handler, he wanted to be the first goalie to score a goal, and came close against Montreal in the playoffs. They had pulled their goalie, (Dryden?), and Eddie shot it all the way down the ice but missed by a foot wide. It was like slow motion. I can still remember it vividly. Before they had authentic game jerseys, I made a GIACOMIN Jersey with a sweatshirt and magic markers. I thought I was the shit. His agility and exciting style were fun to watch. One day I hope to get his autograph. Eddie..Eddie..Eddie..
Kick save and a beauty...Giacomin!
- Marv Albert.
Always #1.
