Buried treasure, pirate accents, swashbuckling sea battles, tricorn hats, and walking the plank-did you know that none of those elements are true regarding real pirates from history?
In fact, there are plenty of other elements about real-life pirates that are simply fiction. But what about the real history of pirates-is it worth exploring, and why?
The history of the Golden Age of Piracy, the one that has shaped the modern conception of a pirate, is complex and long, with lots of information to cover. Until today, there has not been a tome discussing the key details of the Golden Age in a digestible, easy-to-read format.

The thrilling history of pirate unfolds before your eyes! Using fascinating storytelling and deep historical context, this film explores the lives and experiences of eight infamous pirates, giving life to their daring escapades. A thrilling look at the exciting realm of pirates and maritime mystery
Great video though I was hoping to see the 16th century Irish pirate Grace O’Malley. She was notoriously successful and lived an amazing life especially for her time. She also happens to be my 13th Great Grandmother 😊
I love that you got rid of all that writing at the top of your screen. You have really good content, and your presentation is on fire! I love your work.❤👍😬🎭
Who is the narrator ?
Haven't greatest video yet. But the greatest pirate ever was a Chinese woman Zheng Yi Sao. Look it up her exploits are astonishing.
As testimony to her greatness, she managed to retire wealthy and with a pardon for her crimes. How many other pirates can make that claim
She’s the last one on the list in the video!
@michellesmart4132 Oh darnit, I didn't watch the end I had to run. Yes, the chic was bad ass.
I don't know what is more extreme her or the fact that China gave up on deep ocean navigation just when it was maturing.
As an aside, you know that with Hollywood doing all this crazy race and gender swapping, why don't they look at history and tell the stories of some real-life female name-takers. Theodora of Byzantine, Boudica of Britain, leap to mind. Or the above-mentioned Zheng Yi Sao.
