"Why do we keep working at night?"
"Because we had a big pizza earlier. Had to take a nap"
Best quote yet.
Kel DeWeese so is that what they call it now a days lol
If Engine Masters has taught me anything, it's that ported heads are literal magic.
Do you have MTOD?
Ryan Mcelderry Yes.
Sheehy/ hell ya they are so much more power i did on myself and it worked beautifully
I had the same issue you guys had not having the .03 gage. So I googled thickness of a couple of house hold items. A grocery bag is .01 so you can fold it and get the measurement you need. It worked like a charm.
120 feet aint enough, you are JUST STARTING to get into that upper RPM range that the port and polish work will shine. Do another vid, but go out to 300 feet.
absolutely correct
thats the point
it would be obviously faster if they did it longer
CarsandCameras did you guys fix the crank case ventilation
should also replace the clutch with a race clutch, give it that umf it needs on launch
heads don't make much difference until you're in the higher rpm range so the heads can take advantage more air flowing/moving through them
Stock predator valve adjustment is 0.0039-0.0059 per the owners manual that comes with them. That’s for both IN /EX
......with the 18lbs springs ?
With 26# springs???
"Gatta get these studs in." Ike: "Im right here!"
I've heard of a ton of different measurements for value lash but .003 is the one I heard the most
Usually if it’s cold you set it to 2 and 2 with a cam and it’s good
racing clutch time
Used to use sand paper on heads bump up compression a bit still sure people do that way as long as its true flat
Im sure the wet surface did not help. im sure the modded head added power which reduced traction you were already having issues with. Stoked for the 60mph vid tho.
Specs on valves is intake .10-.15mm, exhaust .15-.20mm. (0.004"-0.006", 0.006"-0.008")
6:14 "sorry you had to see that" *wink*
Flow before compression. Makes more power every time.
Yeah ike make a demo derby car like so they can see
wthomasw2. Agreed
I shaved my hemi 212cc head 0.60 thousands and lightly ported I picked up lots of low end grunt from the comprrssion alone. Higher compression does get you out of the hole.
Our Lady of Blessed Acceleration, don't fail me now.
use different fuel when you up compression aka cam and shaved head it will ping if not using High enough octane fuel
They use 93 thats well enough
I heard 62!! I hope I get this go kart frame today I'll be coming for you guys
Love the videos however I cringe when I see the tools you use sometimes. Adjusting valves with adjustable Crescent wrench and vice grip pliers in this video shows bad habits to the young folks trying to learn mechanics and proper tool usage. Bad example in my book but I really do enjoy the video. Good quality!
I would have lapped those valves first to ensure they are seating properly.
with a shaved head on that engine does push rod length need to be corrected like you have to do on cars
excited for tomorrow! i saw no smoke on the teaser run and im pretty sure i heard 65!
correct valve lash on those things is .006 intake and .008 exhaust, +/- 1 thou. ike was right to call bullshit on .003 both sides. if for some reason you've got metric feeler gauges that's .15 and .2, +/- .02mm on both.
If you want to get more top speed take out that cl2 cam and put in a black mamba 275 that will help alot. You can always go even bigger but once over 275 you have to start cleaning room inside.
Allen10390 pretty sure they have the mod2 cam in it
Anything over 265 lift cam you need dual springs. This is coming from dyno cams engine builder.
After the new head you can tell that it bogs a lot at the start. Add more fuel at low rpm and it will be much faster.
comeon guys. its 08:30 in germany. ITS TOMORROW ALREADY!!
Drinking game!!! Take a drink every time u hear them say this!! Loll
It's will be fine
Testing purposes only
Thank you go power sports
Really like your guys channel!! Very helpful!!
Hell yeah brother you’re on the clitoris mcfartcan ch... shit wrong channel you guys are way more awesome
Daaaaaaaamn, LEEEROYY is a savaaaaage
That driveway drag is mostly clutch slip. It sounds stronger though.
Man you guys always make my Mondays better, you guys rock!!
The head work shouldn't really make any difference in the low to mid revs. which is all you're getting to in your runs. It will however make a substantial difference in the upper revs.
Hear hear
You guys didn't lap the valves ?
Yeah right lol
Tap and diy set that's what the tools called. Y'all r awesome going to go buy a set asap
Yeah I did some math and with all the bells and whistle you can throw at a 212 to get it to 18 hp it would cost more than a stock 670 (this is MINUS the cost of the engine it'self), would need high octane gas and be hard to start by hand. btw the 670 makes 22hp stock. In other words it isn't worth it. The little 30$ filter and jet kit with the 18lb valve springs and a governor removal (I just held my arm back with a zip tie no need to open it up) with a strait exhaust is about all that's worth sinking into it. If you want to port, polish and shave the head yourself fine go ahead.
And just to debunk this exploding flywheel myth. I've held mine at 5200-5500 for 10 minutes before (don't ask why) and it hasn't come apart yet. Thinking about doing what my cousin suggested (he's a old school Briggs & Straton racer) and getting a 173cc or 79cc motor's flywheel.
The flywheels are more expected to blow around 7500rpm, had a 10,000rpm predator but skipped out on the billet flywheel, currently in the process of a rebuild
"Why do we keep working at night??"
"Because we had a big pizza earlier and had to take a nap..."
LMAO!
Porting and polishing a small amount usually adds up to .7hp but that's free HP you can just shave away so it's definitely worthwhile it in my eyes
You have the right tool for valve adjustment, just add smaller shims together to get your size.
Power brake it.......full throttle while holding brake
it will help acceleration times
Scary stuff, legend says there is a cascade fuel injection method to tackle the barrier of spinning speed in a single combustion’s duration for 16 strokes, 32 strokes and 64 strokes by injecting more fuel.
Changing valves without reseating them? Should be losing compression, Big power loss
That performance head can perform in llong distance not for short distance.. less torque but in long distance it will perform well
What happened to the turbo drift trike
I don't see you being able to notice much gain from the head by 120ft your just then getting close to some rpm which is where any port and polish work should shine (no pun intended 😂)
John "we need to put the studs in"
ike "im right here"
Might need to jet up again, you should rig up a simple stoichiometric gauge (an autometer gauge, an o2 sensor, and a battery) and tune that buggy up. Also tap the tank for an oil cooler / oil pump / oil filter. Sounds like you need a timing advance too. Anyway, from the sounds of the teaser you made your goal anyway....keep a rockin...
I want to see if the mikuni makes a difference on acceleration and top speed
It does
I think the same as a few others and wonder if a lapped time test would show better results as these give you points of both high and low range. And 2nd well done on breaking 60mph, I won't spoil the best top speed but wow and again WELL DONE
In the predator owner manual it says the intake valve clearance should be 0.004"-0.006" and the exhaust clearance should be 0.006"-0.008" it is on the first page of the owners manual
Might try taking the clutch apart and roughing the surfaces up. Get the glaze off. Might bit a little better. Also might look into a manual clutch. Go Powersports..... wink wink
NOCAREBEAR are you speaking of the 3D clutch?I would love to see them use one also,I watched another UA-camr that used one but didn't like it because it couldn't pull his weight around that well
Nicks backyardprojects yeah! You talking about Red Beard Garage? Think that's the name of it. I was wondering how well they did with a hefty guy. I'm thinking about putting a 16hp motor on a Yerf dog. I was think about a manual clutch but if they don't work good with weight I'm out. Imma fat ass so I'll probably go with a torque converter. Unless I can find a good XR250F motor.
NOCAREBEAR yea I didn't want to mention any names haha but if you go watch all the old videos with the 3d you can see it doesn't pull him well he even mention how bad he had to feather the clutch and no longer uses it
If u bump compression it eats ur get up and go but helps you produce a better power at speed but if u decompress u can run higher rpms and better of the line but have a weaker power band
Could you guys set it up with a torque converter and a small sprocket? So it would be nice because you would have the gearing to take off with the converter and a high top seed too with the sprocket.
FINNALY SOMEONE DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
.003 was what it said on the sheet on the stage 2 dyno cam
Same with my Hot 265 cam 0.003" for both.
I love yalls videos
We*
when the engine is cold, .001. when it warms up, the clearance will open up to approx .003- or .004.
I never noticed the BMX seat post clamp on the silencer 😂 let me dig out my BMX stuff lol
Taller tires! Also, I remember watching professional kart racing years ago, the drivers had to adjust the carburetor when they would hit the top speed straightaways.
VA Outdoors Sportsman On certain carbs that's true. I had a tillotson on methanol with an adjuster attached to the steering wheel.
When will you work on the 66 c10 in the garage again!!??
Why don't you put a torque converter on that go-kart?
sounds like you have a flat spot on take off maybe up the needle a notch
It does sound like it bogs down right after it gets rolling.
David Simpson that's when the centrifugal clutch is fully engaged.
Can't up the needle in a stock carb this whole video they didn't use the mikuni...why not...it's beyond me I would have had that on from the start
Get a higher stall clutch it will skip past some of the low end where it don't have as much power...with the bigger cam you sacrifice some bottom end
Get a bigger sprocket for you clutch then you would easily hit 60 they have some clutches that go up to a 19 tooth driver
Port and polish helps alot more on the big end...
sitting the gasket surface on concrete? Brilliant.
If the clutch is slipping then take the bell off and clean it with sandpaper same with both the bell and actual clutch pieces
Better hope for the valves to not hit without it clearanced hahah but it'll be fine!!
Valve lash on most small engines is between 4 and 6 thousandths (.004-.006). Any tighter and u rish burning a valve
Risk
U guys should put a profiler on the in takes
Doesn't it make more sense to adjust the valves when the motor is warm?
Tell Go Power Sports
you need a racing clutch
Game changer
you guys should really invest in some lights, either for the front yard, or the go karts themselves. You can get high powered 12 volt ones!
play it at 3:30 its funny! "and i call BS on it" lol
man it rains there a lot ! great work men !!
There is no substitute for good head...
we would appreciate if you could also give some normal metric measures, because we watch your videos outside the USA
The upgraded head sounds nice, at least! Great video guys :)
Ya usually fhe lash on exhaust valve is always more than intake
Also .003 intake and .004 exhaust or .004 and .005 what ive been told multiple times
The rollers in the torque converter are too heavy - notice the bog? Modified and stock both had the same problem. The ported head won't flow better until it's in the higher rpm ranges... Oops - no torque converter? Stronger clutch springs to delay engagement, then.
I have the predator 212cc on my mini bike. I have a problem we're after like 20 sec to 1min after running it will just shut off on me. Can any body help me address this problem
Or put some oil in it.
Teaser...sounds like you got it. Can't wait for tomorrow's vid.
You cant swap valves without LAPPING them
They disassemble the heads on the dirty/sandy driveway, lay all the oily parts on the concrete where I'm sure they picked up grit, and not on a rag at least, THEN just pop in used valves from one head into a head with bent valves!!! NO assembly lube, NO Lapping, etc.... This is NOT how you build a motor boys!!
Didn't know Will Ferrell was into gokarts 😂
why test on such a short distance? sounded like it was just barely starting to make power at the 120 foot mark.
I have a basically stock 212 predator on on a mini bike that will do 40 and will wheelie with the smallest amount of throttle applied
Brodie Lueken that just means you have a lot of weight over or behind the front axle
Brodie Lueken rear axle*
Why don't you put a torque converter on it
Instant 20% loss in power due to friction.
Defeats the purpose of the test.
Where is the video of Ike doing the porting and polishing of the head
think the best way to test the difference is to time the zero to watever speed possible time
.003-.005 basically if there is too much gap the valves won’t open completely
you gotta lap valves when switching them around like that
I would say RED BEARDS GARAGE would know the answer to the valve adjustment with 18 lb springs.
Higher engagement speed clutch might help
Hey guys I just bought a predator 212 and I have it on my go cart and the throttle only works when I have the choke on all the way but by that time I'm already going 20mph how do u use the throttle all of the time and can u make a video showing how to setup the throttle and stuff with a centrifugal clutch
Bama Bassing that sounds like there is a problem with the motor
Matt Schork it's a brand new engine
I suspect a vacuum leak.
She's choking. You did head work, but you don't have the intake and exhaust flow to support it
Call the cam manufacturer for the lash on the cam.
.004 is the proper valve lash for the 212cc Predator Hemi and non Hemi for 18ld and 22ld springs. And why do you only go 120 ft on test runs? I can hear the engine start to kick in at the end of run. You need to run 900ft so the RPM’s can be fully kicked in! Come on Ike you should know this!
Am lovin de vidz... Dude ARE U NUTS... drivin a untested engine in a go cart!/ Soap Box Cart!
Modified engine is just starting to pull crossing the finish line. Run it a longer distance or drop the gearing down.
you need to keep on the throttle past the finish line for the fastest and most accurate time
make videos on that 300zx!
