Season 14, Episode 144 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday episode, Alex Kozora and I start by discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers getting HC Mike Tomlin signed to a three-year contract extension through the 2027 season. We discuss if we think the extension was worthy and if both of us still believe that Tomlin has what it takes to lead the team to another Super Bowl championship.
Alex and I also look at Tomlin’s biggest perceived mistakes to date and if the head coach would be willing to develop another rookie quarterback as soon as next season should Russell Wilson and Justin Fields not work out in 2024 for whatever reasons.
The Steelers finally signed C Zach Frazier to his rookie contract on Monday, so Alex and I look at some important details related to that deal.
On Tuesday, new Steelers OC Arthur Smith spoke to the media with the team’s mandatory minicamp now underway, so Alex and I discuss several things that he had to say. We also discuss what several other Steelers coaches and players had to say on Tuesday, and that includes us going over what special teams coordinator Danny Smith had to say concerning the NFL’s new kickoff rule.
Some really positive comments about Steelers WR Calvin Austin III came out on Tuesday so Alex and I spend time discussing that topic.
The Steelers have a new look to their scouting department, so Alex makes sure to recap the recent comings and goings in that section of the organization.
Several other minor topics not noted are also discussed in this 92-minute episode and we end it by answering a few emails we have received from listeners.

I would say the biggest mistake was not drafting Jalen Hurts instead of Chase Claypool in 2020. After Big Ben went out with surgery on his elbow in 2019 we clearly needed a backup when working with Mason And Duck

Don't matter when a QB is drafted if not coached up...Brady 6th rd Purdy last rd last player did pretty good not being drafted in 1st rd

Why does it matter if we win a playoff game or not if we dont win the Super Bowl?

There seems to be a lot of assuming going on with some Steelers fans, and media alike. One of the biggest criticisms of him is the poor hiring decisions of hiring and retaining Matt Canada, along with other assistant coaches and coordinators, and the majority of the blame seems to fall on Tomlin, when it isn't known who has the final say in personnel decisions. Obviously Tomlin has a lot of sway and influence, but he doesn't override ownership, and there isn't a single fan or media member that knows for certain that Tomlin made these decisions alone. Regardless, he's here to stay, and I have a big a** s**t eating grin on my face thinking about all of the ever pessimistic, cynical, whiny little 'fans' that are losing their s**t over Tomlin's extension....😁

Biggest mistakes of career? "Bell cow" running back mentality with LeVeon Bell. OC selections. Inability to develop young quartbacks, with Rudolph and Pickett beings prime examples. He probably should of been fired for the handling of Pickett/the offense alone. He also dropped the ball with even drafting Pickett in the 1st round. Pickett was his guy, until he wasn't.

MT got his job with a 2007 super interview for Dan Rooney. He's not a terrible coach but "Coach C-Plus" isn't future HOF either...... LOL

Dave is much nicer to MT than I am. Steelers have bad TWO very fortunate GMs who have covered his personnel mediocrity. MT proves it's better to be lucky than good
