I envy ZUN. Such pride it must have been, as a 19-year old, to release to enthusiasts a passion project that you spent your time programming even while studying at university - and such pride it must be now, as a 41-year old with a wife and two children, to have seen this passion project become one of the most adored and inspiring universes of the doujin world. As a 19-year old I write this, with no hopes of ever accomplishing this remarkable a prowess - and as a 41-year old, how will I look back upon my life ?

Well, in his words he wasn't sure that people in other Asian countries, (just asian!!) would be able to understand this complex universe, because it's based on obscure Japanese mythology, he said that in an interview for Playstation, and when he was once asked would he release some of his works in the west in English, he said that translating everything would be too costly, the guy was and to some point is oblivious on the fact that his works are already translated in English and is unaware of the phenomenon he created or at least appears to be. I guess it's to some point understandable as he did not mean to create a global franchise but one appealing to the tastes of normal Japanese, except the themes and mythological aspects make the franchise more popular outside Japan instead of inside in a twist of irony, which he also loves to use in his own works, I think the popularity of Touhou Project is a result of multiple things converging, including the fact that the internet access became more affordable to people and as such people had the ability to share Touhou related stuff on newly formed Social media and development of Vocaloid software and other music products allowed for easier development of professional sounding music, in truth it is something that to my opinion surprised him and amuses him, luckily for him he has a lot of people willing to help him out (especially when it comes to drawing manga and characters) so he can solely concentrate on the stories and mechanics of the games.
@@BlazeMaster I'm sorry for leaving you hanging for two years or more without a reply. That was incredibly rude of me. Yes, ZUN is completely unaware of the magnitude of his work - and I think that's by his own choice. I attended Autumn Reitaisai 2022, and was lucky enough to see him on stage. Words fail to describe how diminutive this man truly is ; he barely speaks at all, preferring to let co-hosts hype up the crowd and occupy most of the public space. He seems to be living in his own world at all times. And when the time came for him to leave the stage, I and others attempted to approach him ; but he walked away as fast as he could, avoiding everyone's eyes. It's evident that he never sought any sort of fame, and especially not international fame - which shows, since he is so disproportionately secretive ; so little is known about him when you consider the sheer popularity of his works. To be sure, nothing happens that is _entirely_ due to a single man. He has had his inspirations, his friends to assist and help him ; but the core of it remains his, and he can rest easy knowing that he has spent his life fruitfully, putting out into the world what he felt it lacked. This is the dream of every artist, and I am no exception ; that is why I admire him so much.
@@blara2401 well, yea dude I kinda lost track of the conversation, but he did license a Touhou Project based mobile game so, now at least he understands how far reaching his works are.
Always thought that the title was referring to Elis, since she appears to be a devil-magician of some kind with that wand of hers. Only ZUN knows for sure, though.
Is it just me or youtube deletes likes? I know I might have liked this and the other songs like 5 years ago or so, still... I remember how dark I found this song when I played the game. It as well the purple background made me feel something serious was going on. Sad but empowering at the same time.
Touhou and Dead or Alive are the two series with the best themes IMO. Those themes say a lot about the characters and set the tone for the battle against said characters.
I never listened to this song much for some reason, but it is one of the most impressive. I think maybe the start of the song sounded too boring so I skipped over it a lot.
Out of all 26, I think, games- And out of all of his music albums- This is still easily one of my favorite touhou songs there is. This version, too: Not Akyuu's score, but the original.
I hate it when people say that. She's/He's not saying one came after the other. You can only reply with that if she's saying one was based or copied off the other. If they are both in existence, you can say you hear another song in it, because that does not have to do with which came first.
Just played this game for the first time today! My first Touhou game! finally took the plunge - was a good time! Only beat 1st game on easy so still have a long way to go!
Hmm... I prefer Makai's stage themes, but I prefer Hell's boss themes (including the subtle differences in Magic Mirror). As for this specific one, I love how the theme switches to major key near the end (is that what it is)?
Oriental Magician refers to either Reimu or Elis. In this case it wouldn't be the Touhou title of "Magician", it'd be one of the uses of the original word, *"a person with exceptional skill in a particular area."* You're thinking of _"Ordinary_ Magician".

best music in the game

This track sounds weirdly nostalgic to me.

This sounds like it could be in Castlevania
games existed
castlevania existed
touhou existed
As much as I adore the Mystic Square arrangement(s), I have to say I prefer this version of the song.
I honestly did not even know this track existed if it weren't for Wooming's arrange.

I guess some bits of "Swim in a sakura colored sea" since I heard bits of it here.... 1:10 probably.
Very grim and great music, but these 'original' themes are kinda earrape
no you don't. You hear this in strawberry crisis. HRtP's soundtrack is nothing short of amazing.
ZUN is teasing Marisa Kirisame in Highly Responsive to prayers?
Considering both TH1 and TH2 released at the same Comiket, it's very possible.

Oh a shame... I hate fighting her... look what I was missing
I hear Strawberry Crisis.
marisa appearance hinting?
Hmm, I guess its kinda fast paced.
Sounds a little bit like volcano valley zone act 2
Indeed
This sounds like it should be Blade of Banishment and not Oriental Magician.
