    Some points to clarify
    In Vietnamese culture, the "malevolent spirits" ("vong hồn" in Vietnamese) isn't exactly that scary compare to relevant western counterpart. They usually don't harm the subject like in horror movie but rather bring misfortune, sickness & miscarriages for those with weaker constitution. This CAN be ward off by offerings and prayers.
    IMO if the CIA tried to breed lots of predators, give the the taste of human and release them into the wild it would be more effective. My grandfather who was a sapper at the HoChiMinh trail said that he feared wild predators the most, then US/ARVN rangers & airstrikes. Not once was he concerned about ghosts but rather he is haunted by the sights of his comrades getting dragged into the woods by tigers (they were not allowed to fire since it would reveal their positions + being sapper units mean only a few have firearms on hand)

    • @captaindookey
      @captaindookey 2 роки тому +68

      For the CIA that sounds like the silliest thing they would ever do but in one way it would be devastating to the environment introducing predators into mainland S.E.A. my respect for your grandfather, that war was hard on everyone.

      But both the North Vietnamese army and the South Vietnamese army were always multiethnic (Vietnamese, Tai, Tay, Nung, Khmer, Cham, Chinese, Lolo,...). Some region the army was only 50% Vietnamese. Vietnamese are Vietics. And Vietics are Austroasiatics (Mon-Khmer, Halogroup O1b1). In ancient time they were the Baiyue spread from Yunnan and the Tibetan Plateau to across Southeast Asia, India and the Archipelagos. Fucking ducks that distort the facts and keep saying Vietnam is full of Chinese, "Vietnamese people" or something stupid.

    My vietnamese Grandfather fought during the Vietnam War, and he recalled hearing these voices, he told me that he had never heard the voices he heard before, though, it felt familiar.
    Meanwhile, my American Grandfather, who ironically, also fought in the Vietnam War, was appart of the troopers who set these tapes up, and while they heard the Vietnamese get scared shitless, he and his friends couldn’t help, but chuckle a bit, he almost laughed out loud before his friends had to shut him up.
    As you can guess, family reunions were very akward.

The Montagnards were our closest ally, and we ultimately abandoned them, along with every other tribe we did CDIG with.
      So no, regardless of whatever anyone says in this thread or comments section as a whole, the Vietnamese are most definitely not pacifists. Whole exterminated villages speak otherwise. But hey, it's not genocide if nobody cares enough to stop it right? Just ask the Chinese.

    Pois é, incrível como os norte-vietnamitas conseguiram ganhar a guerra. Pena que não tem nenhum filme que mostre o lado deles para sabermos o que faziam durante a guerra, como se locomoviam, que táticas usavam, etc...

    It's simple, because the Viet Cong have patriotic hearts, but the Americans invaded, so even if they die, they still have to protect the country.

    I use a comparable tactic to prevent the cat of my neighbour to take a dump in my garden. To prevent him from doing so, I empaled the previous cat on a pale in the center of my garden to scare him.

    My grandfather was fought in the jungle with the Vietcongs and I asked him about this. He told me that he once faced this soul sound but he knew it was played by the US. So, my grandfather and his comrades shoot in the direction of the sound, destroy 2 radios and 1 US soldier. My grnadfather said he did not blelives in ghost like ma chó, ma mèo, ma heo... In my opinion, Vietnamese people do not believe in these things
