Classic Sesame Street - Clap & Scat #1 (Bom, Bom)
- From Season 3 (1971-1972), featuring Big Jeffie (Jim Henson), Grover (Frank Oz), and a Lavender Girl (Jerry Nelson). This was originally uploaded by lool13771 from the Iftah Ya Simsim Arabic co-production.
Personal note: The reason I incorrectly assumed that this was the 2nd clapping/scatting (or is that with a /k/) number was because I remember hearing the other one much earlier and more often during my childhood. I didn't want to change the title just in case that was why it was getting as many hits and likes as it has. Judging by the abundance of comments in Spanish, I gather this clip must've gotten a lot more air time in Spanish-speaking countries than it did here in the U.S.
¡20 años buscando esta joya!
Me alegra que lo hayas encontrado. Cuanto éxito tuvo este video en Latinoamérica.
aquí estoy también
soy feliz
When I was 3 years old, I recall singing the "boom boom boom" part, and I tried to do one of the other parts at the same time and quickly discovered that my voice couldn't do more than one part at a time. That relates to my previous comment on this video that I became interested in doing multitrack recording. At the young age of 3, I didn't know exactly how to do what I wanted to do, but I think I remember wanting to build a machine to play this song. Of course, this was long before I ever had a cassette recorder or video recorder that would allow me to record the song and bring it up whenever I wanted.
I also remember fooling around on my grandfather's piano, before starting to learn how to play. I kept hitting one note and singing "boom boom boom." So, I always had musical ability. My mother once noticed me fooling around on a piano where I kept playing the same sequence of notes, although it was nonsense, it had an exact rhythm, so she knew I had musical ability in me and started me taking piano lessons at 6 years old.
Gracias.
Finaly found it!!! Been searching for this clip for so lang!! Great clip, love it!

Same
Same, but it took me 5 years longer.
Finally! For over 40 years Ive wondered if this skit was real or just a figment of my childhood imagination.
I LOVED this! 😆
mi new ringtone
Where did you find it? I want it too!
Look at Grover go!
Grover Monster is SCATTING!!!
Jajajajaja...
This clip fascinated me so much when I first saw it when I was 3 years old in 1973. It gave me my interest in multitrack recording because of how you can control the sound of each part separately. Back in the 80s you had 2-inch tape to record stuff like this, and now you do it on a computer running ProTools.

Grover sounds FUNNY at double speed!
Cuanta nostalgia! Buenos recuerdos. 🤗
I've been looking for this for years! Thank you!
Ahhh yes...another great 70s SS clip I haven't seen in over 30 plus years....
que hermosos recuerdos!! gracias por este belleza
I remember this, especially when Grover chimes in with his 'lines'! This is the 'sibling' clip to the handclapping clip featuring three rows of muppets.
Given how Grover moves his head wildly when he sings, I’m surprised he doesn’t faint as he is prone in to do in other sketches such as counting monsters with Herry or those near and far sketches. It seems like the song was recorded before the screen work and that they just decided that the character in-universe would be Grover because Frank Oz happened to be using that voice.
I love this video, every innovative
Big Jeffy and the gang are awesome!
Is he Big Jeffy? I thought there was an actual puppeteer named Jeff that performed him.
Las escuche cuando tenía 9 años ahora tengo 99 😁😁😁
años buscando esto
Nice beat
Wow this is in great quality also I just noticed the female muppet looks kind of like polly darton with the way her hair and overall design look that is
I am definitely a psychopath! I love that video!
This sketch was brought to you by the letters:
"D" (For the drugs consumed to come up with the production of this)
and "S" (Where they got the idea to Scanimate (Caesar later on) the crap out of something for future "The Electric Company")
Very nice.
Looks like Grover sure knows how to scat.
Sweep beep sweep be deep be deep!
Grover's sound effects remind me of cartoon network.
Clap
La escuchaba cuando tenía 4 años ahora tengo 33
HA! I always knew there was another SS "clap" video just could never find it on here. I also remember as a kid being disappointed when Grover chimed in over the baritone bom bom guy. Still a great display of innovative children programming that is no longer existent.
Love it!!
i was a kid when i first saw this sketch on sesame street.
#2? I thought this one came first. The other is from season 5 and this one looks more like season 3.
When I uploaded this, some 9 or 10 years ago, I called it that because (a.) it seemed to be the lesser known of the hand-clapping scatting numbers; I had even forgotten about it until I found it in an Iftah Ya Simsim episode, and (b.) there was no info available to me as to when either one was made. That it was released on Episode 0536 of the Old School Vol 1 DVD didn't suggest that that's when it premiered. And of course, life happens, so I don't go back and look at every upload to see if details need to be updated. But thanks for letting me know.
I think the female part is done by Jerry Nelson. I didn't know until recent years that many of the female parts were done by men. Frank Oz, who does Grover here, is also known for doing Miss Piggy and other female parts I've seen on Sesame Street, such as Snow White in a "six dwarfs" skit. I think the only female performer who regularly did puppet stuff on Sesame Street is Fran Brill, and occasionally Rita Moreno came in.
Or Marilyn Sokol
Or Ivy Austin
Loretta Long or any of the session singers they'd bring on.
If I am well there was an extended version with more voices.....
You might be thinking of the 2nd handclapping scatting clip, with the three rows of muppets.
0:00 Lights On, 0:01 Lights Off.
RIP Jim Henson
Put it on 1.25x
Love it
This Is From 1971-1972
Es este!!!
Los 90s una poca muy bonita ....
¿Sabías que este video originó en 1971?
Great handclapping
When I watched this on Plaza Sesamo, guess what? Their voices weren't dubbed in a different language with Spanish Speaking Voices at all. It doesn't have to be. Anybody in any language can scat like a professional.
+Josh Berman I guess they must've shown this a lot more on Plaza Sésamo, or elsewhere in Latin America? Just judging by the fact that so many comments are in Spanish. Le agradezco la audiencia de todos.
@@MonsterpieceTheatre Yeah, it’s possible. Who knows?
bo bo bo bom!
Jajaajajajajajaja un clásico
The girl doing the "sweep beep beep a-dee-da-deep" stuff is not really a girl. I have discovered in the UA-cam days that the female puppets are often voiced by men. I suspect she is done by Jerry Nelson here. Frank Oz also does a lot of female puppet parts on Sesame Street.
Spot on, Jerry Nelson voiced the girl muppet in this clip.
BOM BOM BOM ...
Get down Grover!
hopefully you will read this. i saw this episode when i was 6 years old. there is another episode from the same time period. a fast film with a woman raising dough to make bread. if you have that episode, can you load it so i can see it after so long.
The dough is rising … and rising … and rising …
GO GROVER!!!!
