Attack cancel RAR's are more viable than the two other methods of RARing in most situations because you can put out the BAir sooner and in a closer distance.. thus aiding combos a TON. As a Falcon player, attack cancel RAR's are a godsend and I've been using them since launch.
There's still a better method if you want to input rising RAR : 1. input turnaround 2. Jump + attack like a rising nair 3. Joystick in the attack direction directly after 2.
You kinda got it mixed up here. What you described as an attack cancel is actually an instant rar and what you described as an instant rar is just a normal rar but done instantly. An attack cancel is done by inputting an attack and during the first 2 frames of the animation you cancel it by pressing jump and then input the direction of the aerial. It‘s almost identical in input to the instant rar (aka what you described as attack canceling) but an instant rar is performed during an initial dash where attacks can‘t come out so you‘re also not canceling an attack. It‘s a sinilar input but works by abusing mechanics different from an attack cancel, hence the different name. IIRC My Smash Corner got it right in his video

That’s actually a good idea for a video haha. It happens cuz when you buffer an aerial, the game only reads the left stick direction to determine what aerial you choose. Make sure you still watch the video about this if I make it! 😅😅
One issue I have is the aerial drift. I get the back-aerial, but bost of the times I don't go quite as far forward, or even worse, I stay mostly in place, or even worse still, I go slightly backwards. What can I do?
honestly being able to do a consistent attack cancel back air kinda makes RAR pointless. The only real application i can see is that it adds another mix up option out of a full run so your sliding F tilts don't get predictable

I actually have a question about Inkling, if you have the time. When you up-throw, you seem to be able to perfectly time and reach them with a n-air on the way up, and almost always hit them behind so you can b-air them on the way down. What is your method for doing this so consistently? Often times they are able to get out of my up-throw before the first n-air or up-air connects. Does if they are sent behind you depend on their DI? Where my stick jump boys at. Lmao it took me like 2 weeks to get the motion down for executing rar aerials but it’s really no more difficult than b reversing. It’s a matter of timing, really.
If you do the other method, it shouldn’t be possible for it to give you any less momentum, cuz the diagonal input doesn’t affect your momentum and you can’t adjust your movement during jumpsquat either way
Dang. I use tap jump so these methods don't work for me much. I can't nail the timing between a full and short hop with buttons but do it consistently with tap jump, which is why i've played that way since Brawl. I play ZSS so I need to RAR Bair often and i'm having a lot of trouble doing nair into rar bair in particular

Attack cancelling is very useful actually, not just for RARs, but some characters such as Captain Falcon, Inkling, Fox, YL, Wolf, and probably many others have really good attack cancel combos that are definitely worth labbing. For example, Captain Falcon can get a lot of combo continuers out of attack cancel bair combos, as it can lead to up airs, raptor boosts or regrabs. He also has some situational 0 to deaths utilising this. Wolf can also combo fair into attack cancel bair into flash at low to mid percents for early kills. They're worth learning, definitely, but not just for short hop RARs.
They have uses but they aren’t essential for most characters. You can also do most of those combos with the other RAR method in this video. Perfect pivoting for example was most likely more useful than Attack Cancel and that was hardly used at top level. I don’t mean to dismiss the tech, but people have a tendency to put too much emphasis on advanced tech at the expense of consistent fundamental plays.

Some, yes, but a lot of combos require you to use this tech because it allows you to do RARs frame perfectly whilst still keeping momentum. I also feel it is significantly more consistent for short hop RARs.

IMPORTANT PSA: THE ATTACK CANCEL RAR is actually EXTREMELY EASY and NOT AWKWARD with JUMP ON TRIGGER

I find it easier to attack cancel by inputting a backwards ftilt, then right after holding forward and jump. maybe just me tho.
I do a rar effectively but i always get a reverse fair instead of a bair what is my mistake then?
You’re pressing attack before you press forward
