I totally understand you kuya. I really wanted BSBA as my program but ayaw ng parents ko that's why I'm staying in BSA nlang kasi all my efforts will go down the drain naman if magshishift pa ako. And like you, as a creative person, I really try to insert things that I like to do in my sched (sometimes I bring watercolors to school) kasi pag puro nalang accounting nasa isip ko parang mababaliw na ako. Accounting is definitely restricting especially to innovative, creative people who like to put their ideas into a reality. Pero ayun nga, most parents prefer this course for their children dahil sa title and all. And this mindset should change.

Accounting--->>> Routinary, repetitive, procedures based, in short, VERY BORING.
CPA here, been doing accounting for about a decade now. The nature of accounting is kinda both backward and delayed. Say you are a general accountant, all you need to do is to ensure all past transactions make their way to the books. Accountants are usually criticized for their lack of creativity and their inability to think out of the box for the right reason- accounting is heavy on sets of predefined procedures that accountants have to lock themselves up with and follow with no lapses. It is a very, very, very restrictive activity that impairs one's imagination and analytical ability. So if you are a creative person who engages one's imagination a lot, make no mistake, accounting is not for you. Plus, if you are of introverted personality, you might not find yourself comfortable doing accounting because it requires one to engage in different levels of communications with a lot of people. Yayks.

    Sa school Namin old curriculum
    First year - Qualifying Exam
Second year - Compressive Exam level 1
Third year - Comprehensive Exam level 2
Fourth year - Comprehensive Exam level 3
    Fifth year - First Preboard
    Second Preboard
All of which must maintain a grade of 2.5
Out of more than 800 students 364 lang nag stay
In the end 28 lang kami nabigyan ng credentials to take board exam. Sa block Namin originally composed of 35 dalawa palang kami na nakapasa. 😅
Right now still waiting kung matutuloy pa ba ang CPALE in this pandemic 😭.
I can certify po na sipag lang po talaga kailangan sa BSA program.
Na inspired ako mag take up ng BSA Kasi Yung pinsan ko CPA and he gets to travel alot in the Philippines. He also been in New Zealand. Australia and now he works in the UK in Cambridge. Exciting Ang pagiging CPA it's not limitted sa desk job na normally na imagine mo.

I'm an accountancy student, and yes every year we have qualifying exam or comprehensive exam kung anoman ang tawag dun. I find it very hard for me especially me as a slow learner na creative na depressed pa na student. Yes it's true na parang nakakulong lang sa isang box kase bumabase ang accounting sa standards like IFRS, PFRS etc. pero I like Law subjects more. But I want to get that title because It's my dream. If you're choosing this course you need to have a passion, kasipagan araw araw, and also analytical skills (which is meron ako pero half wtf)

I agree.

Schools are not just maintaining reputation... Meron kasing Board of Accountancy (BOA) in which sila yung nagreregulate ng Accountancy Program/Profession here in the Philippines . This BOA can remove the school's Accountancy Program if they cannot meet the standards set by the Board. We cannot blame the schools.
Kung gaano ka pressure sa school yun din ka pressure yung work mo as accountant lalo na if nasa Public Practice ka walang tulugan pag BIR deadlines na... Kung sa school di mo kaya ang pressure for sure you will never survive the accountant's work in real life. 😘 But I agree if di mo feel yung culture better magshift nalang kase sayang din ang oras/panahon if di ka masaya...

  • @hjon9119
    @hjon9119 3 роки тому +94

I disagree with 90% of what you said. You are judging the profession based on your little knowledge of it and maybe your-not-so-happy experience learning the basics in UP.
A school needs some sort of basis for measuring the progress of students in an efficient and standard manner and I don't know exactly where you're heading to when you said that schools should provide a place for learning and not just rely or base on good grades. What was it that you wanted, dude?
Accounting grads can be your normal accountants (think accounting 1 - the bookkeeping stuff). But that is only one area in the profession. In a simple organization alone, accountants can be a bookkeeper, a treasurer, a finance manager, a controller, an internal auditor, a managing director, and so on and so forth. It is not "limiting" as you think since all aspects of a business are measured based on what its numbers say (which are measured using accounting).
At a macro level, accountants play a big part in running a country and the world (think of world bank, central bank, department of trade, department of budget, and all other government sectors they all need accountants).
Then you mention something about the salary - I agree it is not that high for entry-level jobs but it's the same with most professions like law, medicine, engineering, architecture and so forth and so on. But as you climb the corp ladder, so does your salary. One of the highest salaried positions in any organization, usually next to a CEO, is the chief financial officer role, and this is position is exclusive to an accountant.
Even the proliferation of new systems and technologies do not pose a threat to the profession. In fact, being tools/apps, they elevate the skills and efficiency of accountants. Accountants are the ones requiring them. They need accountants to design these systems and make their output useful to a business; they even generate new roles and jobs for accountants.
Accountancy may not be as "glamorous" as Holywood, but it is a highly relevant, dignified and highly-remunerated prfession

And I thought nakaka discourage yung video still pinanoood ko parin naman but he just express kung anong naranasan and kung anong thoughts nya. Personally as a freshie na nag take ng BSA hindi naman ako na discourage. "Pagiintindi at respeto" lang talaga sa isa't isa ang kailangan and naiintindihan ko na "sana" mabiyan naman ng chance yung mga taong gusto ipagpatuloy talaga ang accountancy pero nawawala just because hindi sila nakapasa sa qualifying exam or hindi naka maintain ng grade. And tulad ng sabi mo nasa tao lang talaga, Dedication and passion is the key kung gusto mo talaga ang isang bagay at hindi lang sya for BSA. Sa bawat desisyon talaga na ginagawa natin may nasasacrifice.

Hello, Max! I have something in my mind that's bothering me. It would be nice if you can enlighten me.
I'm planning to take BSBA-A too. After I graduated from this college degree, do I need to take extra units to be qualified for the CPALE?

sorry, but our profs had clearly stated that only those ppl that come from BSA are qualified to take CPALE. if u were from other acctg program, u need to take the BSA units. btw, our prof is a CPA, MBA.

@@missy3670 You clearly don’t know about BS BAA of UP Diliman. Maybe pass the UPCAT first with this as your main choice if you can?
