We're planning a trip to Barcelona this summer and, looking for day trips, ran across Patrick's UA-cam Channel. This is what a video guide is meant to be. Well informed, smartly produced videos with no extraneous commentary. Each one is sheer perfection. Well done Patrick!
Amazing place for rock climbing! There are so many places to see around the mountain. I’m always amazed when I see people climbing in the different spots!
You have me excited about my Barcelona trip i been watching your videos and now trying to plan my week. I appreciate you taking for taking such much care and detail to help complete strangers
Its a beautiful place. I went there 6 years ago with my school and you have to make sure to buy some of the goat cheese covered in herbs that are sold in those stalls. Some of the best cheese i’ve ever had
Was there last Tuesday 28 June 22. Got train from Clot and cable car from outside the station up to the monastery. No queues to mention while there around midday. Spent most of the day hiking up around the peaks. Absolutely mind blowing scenery.
Using the funicular is incredible as you get higher up and hike. If you are not a hiker and you are an American and never been on a funicular, it is an interesting experience. I don't know any place in the US where there are these. Just the experience of going up on a steep "train ride" is an exciting experience! The views are incredible from up there.
This place is beautiful with breathtaking views. You don’t need to practice a religion to admire, appreciate and enjoy history, architecture, nature, and learn something new. If taking the train you might make new friends like I did. Thank you for sharing this video. This place is definitely worth the visit!

Hello Patrick, Great video and very helpful. My wife and I are taking the high-speed train from Madrid to Barcelona on 11/5 (morning). Do you think we have time to visit Montserrat in the afternoon. Any recommendation on the tour company? Many thanks.
You could do it with a car or private transfer. Public transportation would take a bit longer, but I don’t recommend trying to rush it. My private tours are usually between 5-6 hours from Barcelona.
Once other thing, from Montserrat are there any other neighbouring areas worth visiting, that I can visit ideally in the same day. Montserrat will be a day visit so looking for local area suggestions.
Sweet video. What is the temperature difference between Barcelona and Montserrat? I imagine being higher in the mountains it will be windier and cooler? I am going at the end of this month.

If you already have hiking shoes with you, bring them, but to be honest if you stick to what I call the "tourist" trails - i.e., the one to the Santa Cova (from the monastery), the one to Sant Miquel and Sant Joan, the direct trail to Sant Jeroni from the monastery or the one starting from the top Sant Joan funicular station - they are not a must. There is a slightly tricky forest section on the Sant Jeroni trail before the final stairs, but it is doable. The Santa Cova/St. Miquel/St. Joan trails are paved - at worst you'll be on a large dirt track. The Sant Jeroni trails are partly paved, partly not, but they are not too difficult either. If you are planning to get off the beaten path, like hiking from/to the bottom of the mountain from/to Monistrol de Montserrat or Collbató - hiking shoes are a must. Montserrat is a rocky mountain, and navigating its terrain can be difficult without proper shoes. I have hiked a lot in Montserrat, and I love it. Definitely worth it if you have enough time during your trip.
@@PatrickGuideBarcelona While I visited Barcelona in 1992 (2 weeks before the Olympics), we never went up to Montserrat. I don't foresee travelling to Europe in the near future, sadly. :(
Hi Patrick. Just went to your webpage to see how much you charge for a tour of Montserrat but saw that your price for a whole group is out of our budget. Do you ever put together groups or is an all or nothing thing? Great video. Just one question I was told that we now have to pay to see the Black Madonna & to enter the Church? Is this correct or is it still free? Thanks for making time to answer my questions🙏🏻
Thank you! Yes, there have been some changes to the entrances and now the basilica has paid entry. They are still hacking out the details, but from what I understand you must buy the ticket to enter the entire basilica and to see the Black Madonna in one. Best to do it ahead of your visit.

The church is part of Spain’s cultural heritage and that is why you’re seeing it in this video. This video is about Barcelona, Spain.
