the issue with my problem was the PCM, after I got it replaced my check engine light read it was bank 1 upstream 02 sensor and the problem was solved from there
My Jeeps is kind of doing the same this I drive a 2005 inline six I’ve been looking for the issue like he said no codes pop up it emptyed out my engine cooling in one day the idle is nasty too at first are diffs weren’t locking in correctly because the rear axle took some damage every time I drive it I have to down shift going down hill so I can roll into town
Try changing the oil pressure sensor i did it on a 2005 jeep wrangler unlimited automatic. The jeep feels like it is going to stall and the check engine will flash 2 or 3 times while ur at a stop sign. So far so good.
@@dadoofusbeatsgood to here. The PCM is not that bad of a price anymore like they once were. I had to replace one recently and it was under $200. Glad it’s running good now. I’m waiting on injectors, tps, and fuel pressure regulator and will try that.
Bought an 04 with 139k miles a few months ago. Had similar issues but obviously didn't start till after i bought it. The first time at hwy speed downshifted, I lost all power bucked and hopped until i pulled over. Sat and idled fine. Gave it a few mins took back off did good for another 10 miles did it again till i got where i was going didnt matter the gear would just buck and hop when you gave it gas changed tpms after eating that night. did it agaim within first 10 miles. At that point, I thought it was bad gas. Limped it 25 miles to gas station filled up with high test, and ran fine the next 20 miles home check engine light came on on the way home but was gone the next morning.. a month later, I headed back to the same place, got within 5 miles, and it did it again, not as bas but same symptoms, but ran fine after eating all the way home. The next day, going up steep mountain in 3rd gear (factory 3.07) got almost to the top, did it again..didnt think i was gonna make the hill. Finally did got off the road, turned around, and drove back home. Did fine all the way home. 2 weeks later, after changing both upstream o2 sensors, fuel rail/injector heat shileds, and new cold air intake. Was running like a top till on the way home from a 150-mile ride. Highway speed again down shifted, lost all power bucked, and hopped made it to a pull off spot turned it off sat for 5 mins or so cranked up drove fine the next 30 miles or so back home. Had catalytic converter "replaced" and new muffler put on the following monday..time will tell. Evetime has happened, tho it idles fine when stopped.
if none of those worked then I'd say just bite the bullet and replace the PCM, dealer had to do it to me to upload the old computer info into the new one
I noticed your battery meter guage at idle is under 13.6v. This could mean you have either a bad alternator and / or a bad battery causing this issue. 🤔 Also, I recently replaced the lousy Chrysler pcm with a Wrangler Fix pcm, and this made a tremendous difference with the transmission shift points. Maybe the 42RLE has gotten an unwarranted bad rap all these years.
its a combination of things, apparently my o2 sensor must have been failing then that caused my computer to fail, once I put the new pcm in the computer was reading codes again and told me by bank 1 o2 sensor was faulty then after changing those two things it ran amazing again, and who know after 6 years I could see a pcm failing again, but see if its reading any codes first, if its not reading any codes and its acting like this then I would say its the pcm again, try getting a small block of wood and place it over the connections that plug into your pcm and zip tie then down to force the connectors harder onto the pcm and see if that helps, could be the connectors aren't making a solid connection to the pcm, hope this helps👍
Check your fuel pressure, bad fuel pump or fuel injector (s). If you use a diagnostic tool like the snap on diagnostic even though it's not throwing codes it will read where the cylinder(s) that are missing firing. And show the codes that are not registering. It doesn't have to be a snap on, I just know that snap on's version has the ability to run a cylinder test and shows the mis fires, hope this is helpful.
04 tj i just cleaned the butterfly and top of intake and it fixed the stalling and sputtering off the light ... it didnt look dirty at all but some break cleaner and a rag dud the trick ...lucky i know ! Good luck
@@chrisduhaime5689 it was about 1200$ total from the dealer for the computer and for them to flash it and install it, but then could finally read my system and told me my 02 sensors were bad so also replace your upstream o2 sensors at the same time
Never noticed anything before, it ran well then out of nowhere it would rarely sputter then over time got worse until it started to do it constantly making it not fun to drive, replaced the pcm 2 years ago and it's been running perfect since, this video is 2 years old and it's been awesome ever since
Curious as to whether you have fixed this problem as I am having the exact same problem on a 2006 Rubicon with a 6 speed. Just like yours mine seems to only do it at operating temp. Engine sputters and revs up, gas gauge goes down, CEL flashes, Oil pressure drops and usually will not take it if you mash the accelerator, will normally die. Sometimes when you re-crank it's fine. Any help would be appreciated. TIA
Also if you have an obd2 scanner to check for codes, if it's not reading it properly then it's the pcm, goodluck on your jeep and I hope you get it fixed
replace your pcm/ecu from the dealer cause they will have to flash it, then replace your upstream spark plugs at the same time, you can do the down stream o2 sensors too but just doing the upstream o2 sensors with the computer is usually the cure all
I've been having an issue similar to this with my 97 sport. I fired her up and she was fine until running temp. Then she struggled and almost died. On the road she hesitated to accelerate and it felt like it might be misfiring so replaced the ignition components. No luck.
@@dadoofusbeats fuel injected. It turned out to be my O2 sensors not regulating the fuel to air mix properly and the clips to the connectors on my pcm were broken so I used a zip tie to secure them

my problem was the opposite, at running temp was when it was really bad, but its most likely O2 sensor or your whole pcm is bad and will have to he replaced, I replaced the pcm at the dealer for 1000$ and it drove great ever since this video
A few years late but usually thats from you throttle position sensor. you need a mopar tps not a cheap tps. what happens is when idling and at speed tend to wear out a spot in your tps causing it to ho wacky as you are experiencing. Kind of like a dead spot. or sweet spot because your tps is always in that location wearing it out the most. That or your wiring harness behind the valve cover has rubbed onto the head stud causing a short while your engine is shaking. But after all these years of asking for help you would think you would have been kind enough to share what your cause and fix were.

o2 sensor could mess up fuel trims, bad tps could do the same or crank sensor most definitely between them three test wiring too
Also fuel rail pressure regulator.
