    thanks a million for your masterclass videos! set myself a goal for this autumn/winter to learn how to properly cast with my lefthand. Been fly fishing for close to 35 years now , without instructions, stupidly, and following your drills and instructions has already made me cast better with my left hand than my right! I´m now starting to go through the drills to improve my right hand casting! Cheers/Jonas

      Hey Jonas, that’s great! I really found that working on my left handed casting (and right handed hauling) has been particularly useful for understanding what the other side is actually doing. Cheers!!

    Paul thanks for what you do for us. Your previous video on double haul added 20+ ft to my casts. And this update adds a few minor tweaks I can add to my cast too. Thanks you are a great teacher

      @@vatosssssssssss that depends on the rod, line and caster!! Some thoughts on this recently… The Rod Loading Red Herring

    I have a little question,some rear taper is short, and some is long,if the whole rear taper out of rod tip too far,the fly line seems to loose control,so where is best shooting position for maximum distance?

    • @SexyloopsTV
      @SexyloopsTV  Місяць тому

      This is a good question. In the distance discussions with Nick Moore we discuss this (sorry I can’t remember which one but it may have been the first video 50-70’). The running or shooting line between the head and the rod tip is called “overhang”. With such lines I would test it starting with 2’ of overhang, then 3’, and so on. You’ll find the optimal distance for you and then you can mark the line accordingly. (With a tailwind I normally find carrying a bit more is better). You’ll probably need to brake the shoot to ensure good turnover.
      Let me know how that goes. I’m guiding today but I’ll see if I can find the discussion tonight. Cheers

    Thanks Paul! When practicing the double haul on a lawn do you tie a normal fly on? What can I use to practice

    • @SexyloopsTV
      @SexyloopsTV  6 місяців тому +2

      For most practise a piece of wool or glo bug yarn is fine. However if practising for a saltwater trip (for example) then casting flies with the hook bend removed is a good idea. Eg Clouser or Crab. But most of time a small piece of wool is all you need.

    Hi Paul. When will you come back to NZ and fish? Maybe you and Ronan can make a new series.

    "The last back cast we definetly don't want to shoot line."
    I am pretty sure Steve Rajeff, Bernt Johansson and quite some more experts disagree on this. So do I. Shooting line by the way doesn't mean you loose tension. In fact it can help to increase tension, IF you stop the shoot in the best moment.

    • @SexyloopsTV
      @SexyloopsTV  6 місяців тому

      Exactly why I said not always 😆 How much 5WT MED line do you carry for distance without wind?

    • @berndziesche9770

      @@SexyloopsTV Depends on what we talk about. A fair number of distance experts increases carry length only for the final back cast. I can do that by shooting into my final back cast, both in tail wind or no wind conditions. I can also carry the whole "wanna shoot length" during several false casts as some experts do, too. I asked a fair number of WC experts about their carry before shooting. 83 to 86 feet MED was the main answer. 83 in strong wind, 86 in no wind. I had my best results about 85 feet when not shooting into the final back cast.
      Teaching women on the MED shooting into the final bc was a great increase when yet not being able to permanently carry 85 feet. Obviously the MED head is extremely hard to be carried for most men already.

      @@berndziesche9770having to shoot line. Your numbers are a bit short incidentally. I carry 88’6 with the HT10 and 90’ with the HT6. With a tail wind l extend by 2-4’. Occasionally I will shoot line into the final backcast but then the question is do you really want more than 6’ of running line at the top of the loop and under what conditions? It’s a bit difficult to compare shooting to a 90’ backcast to carrying a 90’ backcast if you can’t do the second. The nice thing about being 5’ within your max carry is that 90’ is very comfortable and can be shaped. There is quite a variation between competitors in the WCs and not everyone makes the finals and some who do got a bit lucky! The guys to talk to I would think are the ones who have been in the finals more than once, because they must be doing something different.
