The javelin reusable unit costs $125,000, each missile costs $40,000. This isn't so ridiculous when it's used to take out enemy armor and buildings. It's saving lives, and you can't put a price on that.

I love how they're rockin' shorts, kevlar, and helmets, that's it.
No, the soldiers usually have to pay for it but the government delivers it. They use Ebay and Amazon to purchase and Federal express to deliver it.
With the amount of air power, UAV, drones, AC-130, helicopters etc. it's unbelievable that America can't defeat a handful of guys in flip flops and turbans riding mopeds into battle.
It's not like they magically appears and then disappears again and the areas they fight in are in fact rather limited. It's fire and then run away for the allies and it seems untrue that someone with that amount of firepower and technology wouldn't be able to defeat an enemy after 8-9 years.
And the national debt just went up another 80,000 with that javelin.
Who the hell was in command there?... Letting everyone wander around without helmets while taking fire..
I think the missile it self costs $60k but they are designed to destroy tanks lol
I like funker530 and FPSrussia. There both great in the own right why compare when you can enjoy both. If anything funker530 needs a medal for his contribution to war videos. I love them all! More British vids please!

I think it's more than safe to assume all of the Javelin launches caused at the very least one or more enemy casualty. If you do some research on the launcher you'll find the accuracy is almost immaculate. Well over the 90% hit ratio mark, and also can destroy an M1 Abrams in one shot even with reactive armor. Tanks are very vulnerable from blasts hitting them on the top, from an upward angle, which is exactly what the Javelin does. In my opinion you get what you pay for.

i'm not asking for you to list the kia if their are any, but if you know after the video how many of the buggers our troops got, it wouldn't hurt to list because all we can see is the tree line.

@SquirrelFromGradLife Also like other people said: by the time the helicopters etc can respond, the insurgents can just run away and move where the soldiers on the ground will be telling the air vehicles the wrong location until its too late to find them

Its probably because they are hiding inside building. Otherwise Javelin would not be used.
Anyway US soldiers probably have a bit too much javelins and must use them before those javelins become useless (all explosives and weapons have expiration date), so best way is to use them even if there is no enemy armor.

That wasn't even a 50 cal it was a C6 they only fire a 7.62 round so thats a 30 cal GPMG (General Purpose Machine Gun), and just cause it didn't look like they were taking fire doesn't mean shit, fire fights aren't all 20 meters apart like in Hollywood

@Stealth8O77 They can see where the fire is coming from. And good communication. You can hear the men on the ground communicating with the Attack Helicopter telling them where the rockets are landing.

Javelin missiles cost 40grand a piece. So yeah it would be cheaper technically. But think of the running costs of the c130.

MARINES first of all and all their gear and optics are issued the only members of the military that are permitted to use personal optics are SOF (MARSOC, Force Reconnaissance, SEALs, green berets (ODA and Delta) etc...)

@deathpyre thermal imaging on the UAV's, helicopters, AC-130 etc. can spot anybody anywhere. It's not like the Taliban can just fucking disappear after a firefight because the areas they're fighting in are actually rather limited.

in this context yes but there are technically several other states of matter, such as bose-einstein condensates and plasma, but none of them to be found in the countryside of afghanistan.

@GenCh405 Rather shoot a $40K ATGM then risk having a trooper get injured or worse getting killed. Lives cant be replaced + everyone of the troopers you have seen in this video have had a military training costing a LOT more then $40.000.

You gotta hand it to the Taliban - they have Big Brass Balls accepting that they are going to get smeared with that kind of firepower every time they take a pot shot at Coalition Forces....and they keep coming. Can't help but admire their 'bottle'.

@wolfhart13 In Vietnam you had jungle and the technology wasn't as advanced as today. Thermal imaging was almost unknown, and night vision was very limited and now almost every soldier has a sett of goggles issued.
The area in question ie. the green zone is actually just a few miles wide and the rest is mostly dessert. Get into a firefight there and they're easily spotted by aerial surveillance.
