Louis Theroux is a British documentary maker whose made many documentarys about some of the most dangerous places/groups in the world such as neo-Nazis, the KKK, and the Westboro Baptist Church. He is known for being extremely friendly, remaining constant eye contact, and never getting intimidated in even the most dangerous situations.
When he was visiting the Neo-Nazis and they were like "Are you Jewish" and he just maintained eye contact and responded to the effect of "I hope you won't mind if I don't answer that." And when they kept asking "What would happen if I was?" And then he continued to refuse to confirm or deny. Stone faced.
I once overheard a bartender at a gay bar say "you haven't seen horny until you see a 20 something year old burnout staring at a guy in his 40s talking about trains"
Get Louis was such a dilemma for me at first, my love of his amazing music and incredible comedy were at war with the fact that it was the exact kind of existential horror that makes me lose sleep at night. After a few rewatches though I got over it and now it's just a really funny bop
It seems like he's a little over the top when "Chris Pratt does that thing with his hands" but once you see the movie you realize he's actually undersold how often that happens. If I didn't know it was supposed to be serious I'd think that were going for the laugh with just how often someone throws up their hand as if it's some kind of dinosaur shield that all dinosaurs inherently understand and back down from.
I love how in Flirt (with your dad) Tom Cardy is basically trying to gaslight us into thinking that everyone's friend's dad flirts with his son's friend.
Tom mentioned in a comment on Jurassic World 12 that scientists in the near future watched Jurassic World 7 and decided not to build robots with penises as to avoid the tragic outcomes of that movie. The AI robot they produce loses faith with humanity after seeing dick pics online and decided to wipe out the human race. That film is lore for his Artificial Intelligence song
I'm a little surprised that the Louis Theroux song didn't work for you. I've never heard of him either, but the mannerisms and voice that Tom adopts for him are so distinct that being able to... tell that it WOULD be funny if I understood the reference is somehow enough for me? Especially considering the lines where he acknowledges how niche the reference is, which feels like it brings me in on the joke. Making a mild mannered documentation into an omnipotent soul-stealer is also a perfectly ridiculous concept.
True, but I didn't even know he was a documentarian, and I felt like I was missing *more* because I didn't know who he was. It's a fine line, to be sure, but that's how it felt for me at least.
Tom Cardy's Jurassic Park is legitimately one of the funniest music productions of my lifetime. It beats fucking Dr. Demento's features and those are canon. Gruberman is a legend and this actually tops it. Tom fucking Cardy killing it.
Your enthusiasm about dissecting the comedy in music and pure joy and amusement when something funny lands is infectious, I always find myself laughing along with you. (Also loved the Game Grumps ref, I adore those guys haha.) Liked and subscribed, you're so funny and wholesome
You really should get to know Louis Theroux. His incredibly dry British attitude contrasts wonderfully with the extreme subject matter. He almost seems like a parody of a British documentarian at first. It's good stuff.
Technically Jurassic World 10 is Jurassic Park 13 as World 1 is the fourth Park, so "Jurassic Park 12: It's Dino time!" is the alternate title of Jurassic World 9
The real crack up is that the little brother in 'Flirt'... looks like the same kid from 'Monster Truck'. There... There's lore, Ian... LORE. O_O Jurassic Park is like the Resident Evil games, at this point; The only viable reaction is 'Is this necessary?' Or 'Well, it WAS pretty cool...' ... ... ... Looking forward to JW13, when they elect a dinosaur president. :v If you've ever been stuck with a college Ethics or Sociology class, you've at least been assigned one Louis Theroux documentary or segment. *I'm not saying you should* (they're slightly horrifying), but he's, um, he's a pretty brave guy and probably one of the only sources of what went on in alt-right groups before the cresting dawn of our current, social-media-laced internet. :|
Doesn't matter that it's called Jurassic Park 12. Tom Cardy isn't constrained by such things as the name he gives his own song or general song structure. When the song is over it's over. How does he do it?
Honestly I'm kinda surprised you don't do more DanBull. He has some great serious songs, but he's also usually a lot heavier on the comedy side of things as well. There's his running gag of being allergic to broccoli resulting in the broccoli bars trilogy, he does memey songs about forgetting passwords or something like that, and occasionally you'll get songs like his FallGuys rap, which I describe as the mental breakdown of Dan set to a catchy background
I've actually reacted to his Password song, as well as his Obi Wan rap and his Evil Genius 2 song. I have his Brocalli Bars videos in a playlist of things to react to already as well, just haven't gotten to them yet.
the important thing about the Louis Theroux song is that the song isn't really about Louis Theroux; the song is about someone complaining to Tom Cardy that his songs are too niche a content, and no one will like them, so he made on that was hyper niche and people still liked it. Tom Cardy makes songs not on subjects like Louis Theroux because he goes 'man, he's a cool guy' but he makes songs on things like 'this asshole does X today' or 'X happened today and urgh it is driving me nuts' and blows off steam through music.
I have to disagree with your point about the Louis song being too niche. I didn't know who he was on my first viewing either and it had no negative effects on my personal listening experience. There were enough context clues in the song itself for me at least to not have ant problem following along with the jokes. That's just me though, I can't speak for other peoples' experiences.
- Hey! Does your dad talk about WW2 as well? - At the end of the war in '45, the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service (aka IJNAS) used actual guided missiles... a short range fighter-jet, the Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka, loaded with explosives (1200kg) and fuel, "guided" by an onboard young and ambitious kamikaze pilot, who was trained to steer the plane into ships from the Allied forces. These fighters were dropped from a carrier plane, then they glided towards enemy ships before turning on their jet engines... sorry. What I wanted to say is: No. Not really.
Hey ian, some of his shorts are also very good, with my personal favorites being:"may the 4th be with you" (but it is somewhat crude) and "Adventures of smokin joe rude boy"
Just my highly personal opinion, I think I would enjoy more to see your reaction watching the clip *without* pausing first, and *then* hear your thoughts, perhaps while you are going through the video again while pausing. Maybe that's just me though, thanks for the content anyway! :)
Yeah, I was worried how if anyone wasn't familar with Louis that the last one wouldn't work, but at least we can agree that the Jurassic Park one was amazing. EDIT: the Rap is on one of his things he recorded some rap lyrics in a very dry English accent and it's become memed.

The “get Louis” song is actually quite similar to another of his called “time to buy” which he made for an Australian news show called The Feed
Yep, it's on UA-cam, and I've gotta go watch it again.
