Great content. Thank you!! I’m conspiring building up our fence from 6 ft to 9 feet incorporating mass loaded vinyl. Would love to see if someone had done this to block road noise and how effective it is. Currently, our fence has many gaps in between the boards and does not do much to block road noise.

Got a 160 feet - 6 feet fence wall owned by the county. Would a corrugated metal fence up to 8 feet tall help? Should the MLV still be on the wood fence or the metal fence? We have trees planted 7 feet away that will fill it up in the next 6-7 years.
My neighbor runs his AC almost year around. Even in winter. It sits about 20 feet from my patio. It's annoying as hell on a 75F day to hear this thing running. I can even hear it in my dining room just inside the patio door. I can go six feet nigh by city ordinance w/o a permitor apply for a variance to go 8 feet and get a permit. What material would be best?
Are there any particular materials or fencing that would work best to lessen the noise in our backyard from a nearby gun range? Obviously know it won't completely eliminate it, but just make the sounds less jarring.
You need the gap between the pickets because of heat/cold - expansion/contraction. Otherwise I'll crack and fall apart. Build the fence as normal with a 1/8 gap or 1/16 gap. Now by building the fence you'll have to put pickets on both sides and in-between the pickets it'll be a 2*4 gap, the same thickness for rockwool safe'n'sound to be sandwiched.
The wood will shrink as it dries quite a bit. This is why decking is installed with the boards touching, but once it dries there are gaps. Fencing is a little different though because small gaps means you could have issues with high winds. So the reason you want gaps is because of the wind.
Hi, our neighbours have a very loud electric pomp for heating their home and water, facing our building. Our house is a bit weird, very long shaped so there is no escaping for the noise as their house is right next to ours and inbetween they have stones as pavement. Distance is about 4 meters and right across this noisy machine (above 50 decibel sometimes) we have our bedroom. We isolated and filled the window with glass wool but it comes through the wall. Can someone please help us with any tips as we did not sleep a proper night since december and we have 2 small children and full time jobs and we’re just not sharp anymore. Thank you❤
Hi, what I would do is; to have two types of noise reduction for the ears. One, rubbery small and one over the ears biger one, ( like they use in construction areas). I usually put them on vhen my wife gets up , You need to pillows to accommodates the bulky head phone.2 pillows.... Good luck.
Neighbor's house is positioned above mine on the slope. She plays her stupid music and her stupid outdoor tv and the sound actually funnels down towards the back of my house where I like to sit in my yard and read a book and watch the birds. I'm getting more and more angry. There is something about the position of the houses that directs the sound toward the back of my house. Our municipality has a 6-foot fence ordinance. The top of a 6-foot fence would be lower than her deck where she blasts her noise. Any ideas? So far all I've come up with is to play a pink noise app on my phone but the sound still cuts through.
@@jackjack4412 she got mad and said she’s allowed to play it as loud as she wants as long as it’s within the legal hours and said if I don’t like it I can go inside.
I’m having the same problem with a neighbor. The husband works out 1-2 hours every day playing his music loud. I’ve only talked to the wife who says they can do whatever they want in their own backyard. On top of that, he drops heavy weights and my whole house shakes. I’ve seriously considered getting one of those stink bombs, but it would probably back fire on me.
@@HarpMuse I’m sorry to hear that. I made a discovery - I purchased Apple noise reduction earbuds and I wear them using only the noise reduction feature, with no music. We live uphill from a busy highway and are trying to block low frequency noise, bass from car stereos and 18 wheelers specifically. We're about 100-150 feet from the road. We've installed an 8 foot wooden double board fence, which helped some. Would mlv on the fence help block bass if it's directly between us and the loud cars, or would the sound simply travel through the ground and air and still come through our living room walls?
How does a dirt mound compare to a wood or rock wall? It would be thicker (at least at the bottom) and the angle at which sound waves hit it might direct them upwards. I don't think I can build over 6 feet where I am. So perhaps a combination raised dirt mound and them a rock wall on top?
Looking at a hundred year old arts and crafts house in agricultural zoned property. It's about 500 feet from a very busy rule highway, was thinking of using hay bales covered in stucco. It's thick so thinking it would absorb lots of noise. Also looks like a vineyard is going in across the screen so might need a lot of it.

Watching this on my half acre back yard as a train rolls by. 🤦. We are going to do a 6 ft final fence. We removed about 8 trees on the lot because they were dead (old water oaks) and now the noise is worse. Adding a fence, a few trees on the back of the property closest to the tracks and adding an inground pool with a water feature - should all help correct? Does an inground pool soak up and block ground vibrations?
which seal do you recommend for wood gaps extending during cold seasons. i have used acrylic caulks before failed multiple times due to caulk lines cracking through the middle or wood surface contacts areas
So having hard outdoor surfaces is what a good idea!?!? Hmm I thought like instead of fully hard surfaces perhaps gravel and or timber decks vs concrete patios would soak up any noise bouncing around
