Hello everyone, guys, I’ve been preparing an extensive tutorial for a long time, but as I was editing it, the engine was updated several times, a lot of information became irrelevant, I had to re-shoot the video several times. When version 5.4 is released, there will be many changes in the engine that will make it easier to work with metahumans, among other things. In addition to this, I study a lot myself, I learn a lot of new things, all in order to make a truly useful tutorial. Quality > quantity for me. Moreover I'm currently working on the game Escape The Backrooms and a lot of freelance projects, so I don't have a lot of time. The tutorial will be released eventually when I am confident in it that it will provide real value. Everything has its time. Thank you everyone for support.
Thank you for giving us your time and effort to understand this and by helping us with your knowledge of the engine. Hopefully we will end up seeing your new video when its ready.
I love your tutorial style. Good voice, clear and calm instructions. I hope you make an updated version of this workflow again soon. Not the expensive metatailor stuff many other tutorials cover :)
You saved my life, made me not quit on a year long project that broke due to metahuman issues and have earned my sub all at once. Thank you so much. This is the only video you put out into the world and it has meant so much for so many people. Imagine if you posted more.
If you're getting the FAILED TO MERGE BONES error when exporting from Blender to UE, you need to ensure that your Blender Hierarchy is Scene Collection>Collection>Root>Pose/Root/m_tal_body Not Scene Collection>Collection>*m_tal_body*>Root>Pose/Root/m_tal_body etc Just shift drag Root into Collection, and delete the first m_tal_body, otherwise Blender will export it as a bone and fail to merge with MetaHuman Base Skele Also make sure to apply your scale to m_tal_body before dragging root out of it, to do this hit CTR+A apply scale. Then drag Root out :)
Guys, sorry for the long wait, I am preparing a big tutorial which will cover A LOT of stuff, literally everything about metahumans, how to create them, how to customize them, how to animate them and a lot of lifehacks also! I don't have a lot of time right now, doing some trailers for UE5 assets and environments for games etc. Need to make money for a living, you know how it is... I appreciate each one of you and I read every single comment, thank you for your support, I didn't expect this kind of feedback ❤❤❤
This video helped. But I have a different problem: First problem, my character doesn't have skeletal meshes components like metahuman (head, body, feet etc.). Second problem, my character (the pawn player) has already a skin (naked human skin), and now I want to add clothes to this naked character. But I want my clothing to go on top of the naked body, and NOT substitute a part of the skeleton (as in your tutorial). So for example, how can I add a pair of jeans on top of the naked body without replacing the "legs"? Can you make a tutorial for this situation?
I just found this video and would SUPER appreciate a more in depth video on how to do things. I tried this and even re-posed the mesh to line it all up, deleted the armature, and then tried this, but didn't quite work right.
Absolute Legend, iv been trying to figure this out for a few weeks now even with the assistance of a friend who knows blender but doesnt know meta human, there are some great tutorials but this is exactly what i needed, keep up the good work.😁, earned my sub also
If only more videos were like this. Sweet. To the point. No extraneous junk. Covers problems you may have. Answers the question posed (how to re-cloth metahuman)
been looking for couple of hours for this. thank you for the great and straight forward tutorial. I subbed with bell notifications on so I won't miss any future tutorials from you.
Nice tutorial, but it seems that your metahuman and clothing meshes line up rather perfectly to begin with. Is there a way to cover the process when the clothing doesn't already have hands and feet and when the pose is not the same? Changing metahuman clothing is entirely new to me and making me crazy. I'm just trying to put a female MH in a nice dress!!
I haven't tried it yet but I'm going to use my Reallusion Character Creator 4 package to repose the clothes to match the Metahuman. I would think the workflow would be as follows. Use Reallusion's Metahuamn Dummy of the matching Metahuman size. Import the clothing as an accessory into CC4. Line up dummy to match clothing. Apply Skin weights to clothing. Pose character back to match Metahuman's initial pose while wearing the clothing. Export clothing as FBX to Blender. Then follow this process.
It's taken me 3 weeks to learn blender. Most frustrating experience of my life. Anyways BIG thanks to you choom! The indescribable JOY I am experiencing right now! Oh thanks for this!
Please don't forget to make the other video you mentioned! Would be really nice to be able to know how to do all additions of armor in blender, as opposed to having to pay to do it. I really am surprised that Epic hasn't thought this through and made a way for people to do this in Unreal by now.
I will make it, I didn't forget :) I am having a huge project right now, very responsible, so I devote almost all my time to it, but I continue on making the video and make it as useful as possible
Nice! Super great tutorial that brings the knowledge from different places and makes it all easier to use! Pretty much a full basic workflow. These kind of process/pipeline videos are super great for your portfolio because they demonstrate your knowledge and approach to a project. This is super valuable!
Excellent tutorial! Exactly what I needed at the right time. You have helped us all in a great way. A detailed tutorial would complete it perfectly and will be very useful to a great number us. Thanks and great work!
@@ortyowacademy Very welcome! What version of UE5 are you using in the demo? I just tried 5.1 and I ran into issues. I did it in 5.0.3 and it worked perfect.
very interesting! Many, many thanks for this - love the hacky, practical approach! Like some other commenters I would also love to see a workflow where it wasn't a complete body swop i.e. underlying skin of MH would still be visible - hands, arms or shins etc. looking forward to your big tut!
Thanks a lot! Yes, I will cover this in my new upcoming big tutorial, I will cover a lot of things here, sorry for the long wait have a lot of work and personal deals etc
This was a very good tutorial, thanks! I use 3ds MAX, and I only wish I understood the concept of some of the transfer processes you did in Blender so I could do the same with Max. I look forward to your longer tutorials. Happy to pay for those!
good tutorial. I was expecting a 'transfer skin weights' but it that didn't happen. One note, the compression on a youtube video makes movement in UE blurry. At the end you are absentmindedly constantly moving in and out of the warriors scene and it made me sick.
Hey bro, I am constantly learning and making commercial projects, I've learn a lot of new info that I want to share. Sorry that's it's taking for so long, everything has its time. Quality > quantity. Want to provide real value
I seem to be getting nothing but trouble for some reason. Tried this twice now, making amry guy, helm doesnt move at all with head, vest sticks to arms, ue5 becomes super laggy for some reason after import. Not really sure where im going wrong but any pointers are more than welcome.
Amazing tutorial. can you please make small video explain how to add cloth for metahuman body and not cover hands and legs please. I tried but it doesn't work. and big like for you content. Thank you.
Tried this nice concept over 10 times, switched back to blender 2.93 but i can't get it working. Waiting eagerly for your new version!! No problem if it takes a little longer than 9 mins :)
I tried this tutorial and I was having trouble with trying to add new clothes onto my MetaHuman character; specifically with the rig it seemed. When I tried to do anything that would move the hands, the mesh for the fingers will get "left behind" - I suspect some sort of skinning issue. Anyway my fix for this was where the video said to replace the existing MetaHuman Torso Skeletal Mesh with your clothes' Skeletal Mesh asset I replaced the MetaHuman BODY Skeletal Mesh asset and left the torso alone. This seems to have done the trick for me. The fingers are still a little weird when you try to move them individually but they play nice as a whole now so for my needs this will be good enough. Just thought I'd share in case anyone else ever experiences the same issue I did. Thanks for making this tutorial! The finger thing was a big issue for me but everything else in the tutorial worked fine. Instead of finding a clothing mesh online somewhere, I had an existing rig with clothing that I wanted to basically turn into a MetaHuman with a MetaHuman face and using the MetaHuman Control Rig for better animating and retargeting. So what I did was I had the existing non-MetaHuman character rig in Maya, deleted all the faces for the head, repositioned the rig to be in an A-pose as similar to a MetaHuman A-pose as possible (the rig was in a T-pose by default), deleted history and froze transformations for the whole thing, and then exported only the mesh as an FBX from Maya. Then I did all the Blender steps starting at 3:10 in the video and proceeded as normal (save for the previously mentioned finger issue I had in UE).
does not work for me :/ not using these clothes, but a jacket, so had to change the skeleton pose alittle. The bones stays but the body move's when applying the pose. Jacket does not attach either :/
Thank you very much for the work you put into this tutorial. I am realizing that this works with older versions but not ue 5.4.4. The upper body seems to work but with the lower body it does not move along with the legs. Am I missing a new setting? Should this be placed somewhere other than torso after the latest update to the engine? Thank you!
Very clear, thank you very much. Does it any help to floating head when we use the clothing with way fixing floating head+not loosing any major data on face mocap?
