Great vid lads. Monty is the unsung hero, his tongue popping out as you mix the gb and laying up lazily on the bank as you talk shop! Adds a great dimension to a video, that reinforces how much untapped potential is out there, for the good old waggler at range. Heartwarming stuff.
Hi to James and Ian, thank you for producing this video. I think a lot of general/pleasure anglers like this sort of fishing and prefer watching a float as opposed to the tip. I love this type of fishing feeding soft balls of groundbait and just enjoying a mixed bag of fish. Ok I might catch bigger bream on the feeder but if conditions are suitable this is more fun. Incidentally I have those same Drake floats which i used in Ireland, getting a bit battered and old but still work well. Please do some more video’s in this style as not everyone wants to see long pole fishing, as loads of fishermen don’t own long poles. Regards Bill ps some video’s on the short pole wouldn’t come amiss either!

Not sure where you are in the country but if ever you get the chance to fish a reservoir in Essex called Ardleigh then you will be graced by big nets of roach fished at about 20m.

had some cracking days roach fishing on the waggler on local res and canal, might not be as accurate as the pole but nothing more enjoyable than a day on the waggler, another great vid!

I loved to watch this episode. Nowadays I'm just a pleasure fisherman, and I still use this method today. It catches me plenty of quality fish, and I love this method. I have health problems with my hands and shoulders, so the pole is a big No No.

When this type of fishing came from England to Holland (where I live) about 40 years ago I bought my first Tricast match rod and started to make my own peacock wagglers. Today still fishing at least 3 or 4 times a week (and have far to much matchrods) combining the pole with wagglerfishing or my most favourite Slider fishing. So I look forward to watch your slider video that you promised James (haha). For now thanks for this excellent waggler video.

Way back in 1995 I used to have a nice bodied waggler of 2+1/2 SSG that unfortunately got snapped right at the base, I glued a spare crystal insert tip into it, and it became one of the best floats I've ever had for catching Rudd off the top of a fairly local mud-hole that summer, it made a lovely splash as it landed.
Last time I fished that way was over 10 years ago maybe more . And was on the Attenborough gravel pits . On the Notts AA ticket . Back in the day I used to love it down there big open spaces of water and used to be full of Bream , Roach, and Hybrids. Then it declined many said it was due to Cormorants. But I still hear that Massive shoals of Bream are still around but they are wild as it hardly gets fished . But I have great memories of that method. 👍🏻👍🏻🎣

Fishing aside, that dog is amazing....... I lost my Golden Lab 3 years ago, and he/she is just like him !
i have a total of 22 bodied wagglers and a total of 60 + wagglers in total like you have shown in this video i also use bodied wagglers for distance fishing for roach, bream and tench at my local larger lakes and pools , although i do use a small swivel to attach my hook length to the main line, one of the dying arts of fishing nice to see it shown on a fishing channel, perhaps you could do one on slider float fishing or the really old style of swing tip fishing
Slider video is in our mind. There's no swingtip rod in the range at the moment however.

Hi James, yes I use a very similar method although for close in waggler fishing. Again I use a similar ground bait mix, but will add molasses too in future. It was great to bump into you and your lovely Lab today at Lanes of Coventry. I have just got back into fishing after a twenty year absence, so your videos are really inspiring me to better Roach and Bream fishing, many thanks! :)

Another brilliant video, well done James and Chappy👍Got to be 20 plus years since I’ve fished with a bodied waggler back then it was for catching Carp using three maggots on the hook and feeding balls of maggots in stickymag a method that worked really well, this video has got me thinking of getting the old wagglers out again!

I believe a lot of anglers pigeon hole themselves into a match style of fishing and they miss the point.
The video hopefully will get a few people thinking outside the box,improving their angling method and catching more fish.

A cracking days fishing ! I think a lot a people just assume bodied wagglers are used for sliders but this proves how versatile they are. I remember many years ago on the my Gloucester canal , home made bodied wags were used to target the chub that hugged the far bank trees. Id like to think when the current cycle of feeder matches that are now popular runs its course, maybe someone will start proper float only matches for silvers on stillwaters. Its certainly a dyeing art.

Great video James and Chappy. I used this method years back at Arrow valley it was brilliant when there was a tow on. I had some great days fishing way back when their was some carp and large bream to be caught plus roach. Five stars.
Great video guys not something you normally see! Off to fish Swinsty reservoir in north yorks next week. The bodied waggler fished on a slider is definately the best method.
Normally feed hemp rather than groundbait though. Might give the groundbait a go next week now!!

I think we all sometimes reach for 13m of carbon and sit like gnomes and neglect the unfashionable old school methods. Reminds me of my youth when I saved up all my paper money to get a Shakespeare Omni carbon rod and fished waggler on my local lakes for roach and skimmers. Great video as ever James, that's another use for my 14#1 instead of my usual river stick and waggler sessions.

Just one observation:
When moving rubber stops ,knot stoppers,or lead shots on the line it is better to wet the line and move them slowly.
Great video. I could never afford a decent pole so I try and fish a float when I can. I love a bodied waggler, especially set up as a slider when fishing deep water here in Ireland

@@cadencefishinguk Hi, I am based in Mullingar, Westmeath. We have some good mixed fishing up this way, good large Limestone loughs for trout, and large coarse fish for the adventurous ( they don't lend well to bank fishing due to shallow margins) but the canal around here offers top class tench fishing and the average roach is about 8 oz to a pound on good day some steches offer very good bream too although the Grand Canal is more renowned for that. Tight lines guys 🎣
Using the CR10 15" No 1 with a light slider on Strathclyde Loch for roach this weekend. fishing just past pole line and at 40 m just off the second shelf :)
Does it produce good catches? Was ravaged by cormorants?
@@cadencefishinguk 30+ in Summer but poor in winter. Never fished it competitively, not been up here long enough but have a series of opens starting this Sunday. Aiming for a stone of roach 4-8 oz although had a few good weights of it in practice........can be peggy. The smaller roach have survived but nothing above 12 oz and the Gudgeon have vanished so its roach or bust.

I’ve recently sold my long float rods due to them not seeing the bank for a while...after watching this I might have to break out the bank card ;-)
Superb content as usual. Reminds me of many years ago getting my first Abu matchmark 13’. I still love wagglers, although back then I used mini or micro onions at my local ponds. What is the hook tier you are using there? I don’t recognise it. Looks easier that the Matchman. Love the action on that rod too, casting looks like it utilises full action from the first guide and the action when playing fish looks superb. I can see investment in a new float rod on the cards. What’s the rod weight?

James you never showed us the close up of the figure of 8 knot. I can do one with rope but it's fiddely with fishing line. You seem to have a little twist you do with your finger and make it look so easy. Please show me on your next film. Thanks.

Enjoyed the video but by clipping up aren't you concerned you'd loose a big fish like a tench if it came around?
There is a risk on some waters, but on this pool there's not much risk. Admittedly, a carp could take the bait here, but they may be lost anyway on lighter tackle, clipped up or not. It's a personal preference and helps accuracy, ultimately one has to make one's own assessment Colin, but you raise a good point thanks.
Hi Colin, If I hooked a big fish I would take the line off the clip and allow it to run if needed. When fishing at range there is a lot of stretch in the line and you normally have time to remove the line from the clip. Cheers James
I noticed that when you fired the balls out that the frame of your catapult twisted in your hard which must affect accuracy - have you tried a catapult with an arm brace cos this would help minimise the twist

H. One question: first you plumb the depth, then you tie the hooklength. It means that the whole hooklength lies on the bottom???

P. S. I am gonna feeding with spomb, cobra or other carp fishing tackles)). For fish bite- binocular fishing glasses. 20 gramms cralusso rocket float and 17 ft rod with 10-35 grams test.
Wind strength will influence distance. 30 to 50 metres would be maximum under ideal conditions.

I've got 2 lakes 10minutes from my house were us locals use the waggler ....its been a devastating method for years for the silverfish ,tench ,bream and some large Rudd......30lb to 40lb nets are regularly caught ...and we use corn .plus small bits of worm as hook baits ...same soy of ground bait mix as well .....it is a dying art ....great video .....
Love catching roach and using them to catch 20lb pike on a float.

Just bought a candence float rod and reel ( # 1 , 11 ft ) the way it behaves I can only describe as beautiful . So then I bought a # 13 of the same and a #1 feeder 11 ft . I’m not going to replace all my rods but if could I would . The rods are so sophisticated and sublime to use . No exaggeration . No middle man and although not a budget price , you get a lot more for your money than any other brand . The website is easier to use than most and service excellent . It gives me pleasure to recommend cadence . Thanks cadence !!
Don’t be put off by their grading system for their rods being different to other brands , they explain it in their videos and is very realistically accurate , and once you buy one you see how much sense it makes .
I love fishing waggler, I was brought up fishing before we had poles, and I still enjoy making my own waggler (and pole) floats. Casting a waggler out beyond pole range is so effective very often as the fish back away from the pole line.

anyone...what is or are the main reasons for the bodied waggler over a long straight preloaded waggler..is it just the shotting capacity giving better distance or does the body do anything when in the water regarding stability? great clear instructive vids cheers
Yes the body provides stability. There's a finite length to which a straight waggler can be made of course and then a body is required to give capacity. Chappy
