An introduction to the present generation audience before dealing with the main subject. Dr.Sivaji Ganesan, who was the very First Indian Actor to get International Award and Honour in foreign soils at Egypt, US, etc was described as 8th Wonder of the World by veteran actor Mohanlal. Also Sivaji was held in high esteem by Mammootty, Thilagan and others. Legendary Prem Nazir was his friend and acted with him in former days including Thaccholi Ambu. Vietnam Veedu (a 1971 Sivaji starrer) was a wonderful film, the Hero character being Prestige Padmanabhan, an educated man from a humble lower middle class background and who was brought up by his Widowed mother since his childhood by toiling hard alone and rose to high position by sheer dint of hard work and sincerity. The song in this Video is the modified outcome based on the (extracted) Song sequence in the said Vietnam Veedu film, as a flash back scene as reminiscence of Padmanabhan and his wife in their old age on seeing their marriage photo. Sivaji's amazing Acting displaying innocence but not losing intelligent nature of that character, his awesome expressions with mild smile, thrill and happiness over having married his paternal aunt's daughter and entering into first night, by singing with his newly wedded wife, along with graceful Dance-like movements of a middle class Brahmin youth could not be even imagined by any other actor either in the past, present and probably in future too. Sivaji brought the essence of the nature of the younger days of that Character he
played, through his amazing performance in just one song. That song only was used later in the above new film with some modifications as a day-dream song, as imagined by the Heroine's sister in her adolescence (but not by Hero who treats her only as an innocent young giri with infatuation and even extending advice to her later). Even for such a song, practically Actors have to perform. In my humble opinion, this song could have been avoided or picturized with some different imagination while using that song, formerly handled so gracefully and amazingly by a legendary actor called Sivaji. The Film crew could have exercised some diplomacy while explaining to the Hero, a talented and intelligent actor, about their expectations, before imitating the gestures of a great actor. It won't be an exaggeration to state that it has gone overboard, especially while the hero shaking head vertically/horizontally with terrific speed and force, showing extended hair at the back specifically, with the intention of kindling/creating outburst of Laughter among audience. It is my earnest request to present day film makers, on behalf of the Fans of yesteryear movies/actors, to please avoid such things while filming. However, I wish to state that while viewing the total film, I noticed that both the Hero and the actress played the role of Heroine's sister, had given very good performance throughout the film otherwise. Also, it can be stated that the said actress appears to be a good dancer generally. She tried her best to adopt legendary Padmini Madam's energetic but graceful dance movements. V.GIRIPRASAD (70)
