      Definitely the different gasses, but are they at a higher/lower pressure? And does the high voltage being AC make it glow better? I tried it with pulse DC at atmospheric pressure and it didn't really work. I could imagine the AC transferring through the glass as it basically is a capacitor

    I love the double pendulum😍😍..the reason for the knot is due to the rotation of the ring beyond 90°, the lower ends of the chain are elongated sideways. Therefore, there is now also a restoring force component tangential to the ring. If it overcomes the frictional forces, the two ends of the chain can slide from the lower end of the ring upwards on each side of the ring. Once they make it to the middle of the ring, the knot can form

    1:51 The more you play with the glass tubes filled with gas the more you're contaminating the gas filling. The spark coil on the glass causes the glass "outgas" which means gas that was stable on the inside surface of the glass has been given energy to break free.
    I use these gasses in my line of work, I'm a neon glass blower, I make neon signs.

    The answer is simple- Ish. The ring slides down the necklace and once it gets to the bottom of the necklace the necklace wraps around the ring creating a knot

  • @ScottCorbett74
    @ScottCorbett74 5 років тому

    The rotation from the ring causes the leading edge to pass between the strands of the bead chain, forcing the strands around the sides of the ring thusly looping the chain into a knot around the ring.

    8:40 it happens because when you hold the ring in such a way that you can release the thumb before a fraction of a second of leaving the ring from your fingers, the ring slides till half of the chain touching it more from the side of your thumb and hence, gets bunded upon the string as it flips the string so quickly that the human eye can barely notice it!

    Answer to this weeks quiz: The chain catches the ring due to a wave effect. The wave hits the end of the chain causing it to snap back creating a loop through which the ring falls through thus closing the loop and catching the chain.
    It's a crude explanation of what happened but I think that's what's happening here.

    It helps to know that the spring forces between elements of the slinky are local. And you should note that the system was in equilibrium just before release. From there you should be able to deduce the behavior of each part of the slinky in the instant of release. And for the "next" moment and so on... It is worth thinking this through. -
