Nicely done Dave! I love how well you know that synth.. Making a whole track from 1 synth is definitely a great way to learn it. That pad sound was awesome btw!
So good bro! Really enjoyed this! Loved the bits of humour in the editing. That riser pad sound you got was lush af! And the classinc kinetic friends solo strings sound in there too! #memories 😂 noice noice noice!
You should do some more tracks using the Yamaha PSS-390. I'm also planning to get the Yamaha PSS-380 at some point in the new year which is the same as this one but it has mostly black buttons. I do have a PSS-280 which was the next model down from this but the PSS-280 doesn't have digital synthesizer.
Hey Dave, thanks for sharing, was good fun! Really enjoyed it, not least just your general enthusiasm as a whole. Never failed to be genuinely smiling after whenever I've met you in person. My suggestion for a new vid would be how to keep positive as a whole. I love how enthusiastic you are about music and totally just keep going. Any hints or tips on that front please? Many thanks in advance, your Yoda aged padawan. 🙏
Hey! Aw here thanks for the comments! That's so nice of you! Man keeping positive can be hard, I almost quit tonic note and all it's projects totally in 2018 after the Tonic Note tour because it was such a challenge!! But MY MAN in the comments Paul Hood gave me a wee pep talk, as did my dad, bro and partner. And it helped a lot. So I think the answer is the Tonic Note community you'll find on insta, here in the comments, and also the Music Maker's Social Club zooms and Discord server. So yeah that helps! Finding our niche and band of freaks lol! I think I also get bogged down in being peeved at not being able to nail one style and stick to it - kinda like some of my fav producers like KiNK, Memorex Memories, Com Truise and more. But once again I chatted to mates who gave encouragement and mentioned yeah that might be the case but the flip side is there is a skill to mixing up genres and styles.... So that made me wanna pull together the 1st hostel freaks album from all the EPs I've made plus new tracks and boom u know what there is a wee thread there somewhere. Also I think don't worry if. You're not producing much at some points. Eg Im not right now to be honest, more doing videos, writing, and learning about entrepreneurship because I really wanna start a full time studio. But it means I'm not making lots of tracks now... But makin music is the main point right? But don't beat yourself up when that happens, I see it like a change of seasons, sometimes your focus is somewhere else (family, friends, travel, a day job u like or don't ha, or another hobby etc) - all these things will eventually feed back into your music, so going easy on yourself is a good thing too. Hope this rather rambling reply helps u or anyone else out and it helped me out write it! Cos I don't always stick to this and get down like anyone else but it's good to try and go easy on yourself and enjoy life inall it's beautiful dimensions and experiences. Also one last thing, an analogy from bobeats... Not all runners enter races, and even when they do it is sometimes only once a year or so.... They train for loads of reasons and cos they get something else out of it too So as music makers even if we only put out one track a year or even two years as long as you enjoy playing in your daw or synths or whatever that's the main thing, treat it like you're a kid playing with a toy and tbh most artists I've read about recommend that and say it's how their best stuff comes!
hi if you still have your pss 390 keyboard please can you make a video of the demo song with the transpose button to minus 12. you put the transpose to -12 then press the demostration button. please can you do it because I have not heard it in a long time and I had the same keyboard but it went to charity 7 years ago. thanks
