Just got through trying Grid Autosport last night for several hours. (didn't go to bed till 5am!!!... ugh!) I AM a codemasters Grid Racer veteran. Loved the first Grid. Beat it. Considered it one of the greats, and better than NFSs. Played Grid 2. Never followed it to completion. In fact gave up on it. Was a bummer. Now let me explain! When I try racing games it's ALL ABOUT the handling. Grid Racer 1 = balanced handling Grid Racer 2 = too much oversteer Grid Autosport = too much understeer Grid 1 had almost perfect handling. And there were always advanced settings for calibrating your controls. I just use a gamepad for all gaming. Grid 2 had too much oversteer, BUT THEN NO advanced settings for fine tuning your controls. ESPECIALLY GAMEPADS. That killed it. Grid Autosport has too much understeer. However, they brought back advanced control settings! FOR ALL DEVICES, INCLUDING GAMEPADS. And after some tweaking you can reduce the understeer, and return back to controlled balanced handling. After exploring hours of Autosport, I also love the fine tuning characteristics of vehicles that ALSO help you get that perfect balance to your race style. Whether you like a "grippy" or "driffty" driving, the calibrations of fwd/rwd braking, differential, suspension, and drag help achieve that. So far I must say I'm loving Grid Autosport. It's what Grid 2 should have been. It really does bring back the first Grid feeling, with even more options and settings and configurations. Graphics wise, it does look like a combination of the first two. It isn't next gen, but that will be Grid 3 hopefully!
For me: I did like Grid 2's handling, especially since you could go crazy with the cars, but still get properly punished for not using brakes, positioning yourself before the turns etc. My main gripe was the AI, it just didn't utilize this handling and drove like it's from a completely different game, hogging up the best racing line and braking way too early - thus why you had to basically to take wider lanes and then drift your way out in front to win. Not to mention 12 car races on a tight course, with like a minute and a half to fight through that turtle crowd, and then try to catch up to the leader who's like miles away - those races were really unfair and I felt like they could use qualifying runs. This drifty handling was IMO more suitable for nfs-like games, where you only had 4 to 6 opponents (but provided that they also utilized it in the races). Like if, say Nfs Most wanted had Grid 2's handling and damage physics (and the AI wasn't a rubberbanding pile of crap), I'd be playing that game even to this day. Most fun I had in the game was when I raced my friend on splitscreen... those were the most intense races we had
grid 2 is terrible handling, kids arcade style. try AC, ACC is epic, i know your talking about 5 years ago but its still bad for that time compare to even forza motorsport 2 but grid 2 is a masterpiece vs automobilista 2 , the ice road racing.
@@mrbrittas3254 Arcade style, yes. But I wouldn't call it kids arcade style. Kids arcade style would be somethimg like nfs underground where cars drive like you have invisible helping wheels on the side to keep the car from oversteering. At least here you do need to apply some throttle control and weight shifting to take corners properly, and lines are important too since you can't wallgrind like you can in those nfs games
@@GoldenEDM_2018 I would take Grid 2's arcade physics over any of those other dumbed down tap brake to "drift" arcade racing games. And the reason I like it also is because, despite being arcade, you still need a lot of skill and mainly consistency to be able to constantly drive at peak performance (i mean, just look how much crashing and wiping out happened in multiplayer matches).

Race driver grid is a cool game with decent controls, Grid 2 was just weird and makes me feel weirded out with the handling of the cars, Grid autosport is the best! Makes me feel like a true racer, but driving very fast cars and turning sharp corners will make you slip and slide to death
I haven't played the console version of GRID 1, but only GRID 2 and 2019. I yearn to play GRID 2 again because the handling was seriously punishing and rewarding, taking time to adjust to it. Sounded and looked great. 2019 has flaws, but it's still a good game. Currently deciding for either GRID 2 or Autosport.
The 1st one and the last are the best.. but with regret i must say that Autosport had been better than the original one! they made some progress on that! I hated open wheelers now i love them all because of Autosport!
