Just an FYI, if there is no medical it’s because it is something called Post Claim Underwriting and it should be illegal. You’re paying for insurance but you don’t have insurance, not until you try to make a claim. At that time the company will underwrite the paper and can pretty much deny to create the insurance for any reason. They then return your premiums with a minimal prorated interest which will be far less than actually paying off the claim. Often these policies are period duration so in the meantime the company has had a very cheap loan for you and in some cases they never have to pay off.
After over 300 episodes, I'm still impressed with how good Brian is at troubleshooting and fixing pretty much everything on the boat. I bought my first boat last year, which is a 26 footer with a lot less complicated systems on board. But I still hope to channel a bit of Brian with my first serious winter maintenance period coming up soon.
CRIBBAGE! This was the first time I heard of cribbage - I'm a fifth-generation cribbage addict, both my grandmothers taught me to play some pretty cut-throat cribbage before I was five. On my mom's side, my grandma always said, "Dammit, you always have an Ace!" Here's to all the kindred souls who are keeping the tremendous spirit of Cribbage alive in 2021 !!!
Painless sponsor video. I think I heard Señor Brady say in an interview that you made Delos videos for 4 years before getting your first small check. For the amount of pleasure and delight we all receive from your videos no one will begrudge you trying to make some money. Just rewatched 80 North. As great as the first time.
Being a past school mile runner, a marathoner, a long distance bicycle rider who has been recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, I have been vicariously living my dream through your videos. Thank you…..
That signature tune is still one of the best of all the channels on You Tube. It has the right amount of expectation, sunshine and happiness in it for eveyone. It was so well chosen.
Hey Brian, here's something for you to try. I have been brewing for years and like yourself, love doing it. Instead of water, use clear apple juice, and brew it down using 1118e champagne yeast and 3kg of sugar. The end product is a very smooth drinkable vodka at 40%, mixes with any juice or flavour very well. Only thing, do it when you plan to stay somewhere, the brewing process will take 27 days,. But that's the trick to a smooth, not hot alcohol. It's fun though eh? I have a similar tower but also have an alembic copper cap and temp control on the heating element for making real whiskey moonshine. That's where the real fun begins.
"Oh that easy, Hey ? I don’t even have to put my mouth to it ?" Hehehe You made my day Taylor !!! Hilarious :D It's great you have a blast their guys !
i was of the impression that the number on the measurer was proof. Divide by 2 get percent, so like 80 proof is 40 % by volume. shine on you crazy diamonds
There is a product called Barnacle Buster used to flush the raw water side of a motor. It makes for clean and easy maintenance. You mix the product 4:1 in a bucket and connect one hose after the raw water pump and another just before the exhaust mixing elbow. With a cheap spare bilge pump in the bucket you can flush the entire raw water system, not just the heat exchanger but also the oil cooling etc. It is a great product, environmentally safe. You will see increased efficiency in your motor. I went from one gallon per hour to .61/hr. You will flush the motor for one hour then follow with a fresh water flush a couple times for 20 minutes or so to clean out any remaining product as to not damage any seals.
You and your crew make even the down time waiting for the wind interesting. Also love that Taylor is onboard. I was following her adventures before she joined the Delos crew.
Watching Delos, sailing doodles, and Joolz guides make the end of my week worth the wait. My week just wouldn’t be the same without those three video adventures. If you are wondering about Joolz guides he is a 6’4” bloke in a bowler hat that does walking tours of London and since I’m originally from England he helps me with my homesickness lol plus he’s a barrel of laughs. You should check out his channel even if only for the entertainment value lol
Good that you measured specific gravity to properly dilute your 192-proof firewater!. That's because the volumes of ETOH and H2O don't add perfectly when combined. I'm a chemical engineer and long ago, I remember an experiment we did in college to prove the point. We used pipettes to measure very accurate volumes of pure, 200-proof ETOH, and pure distilled H2O. We delivered these precise 50 ml volumes to a graduated cylinder and guess what, the final volume was: 50 ml ETOH + 50 ml H2O → 97 ml of mixture. The masses added up, of course, but not the volumes. Later we distilled an ethanol-water mix in a large distillation column. It was 12" in diameter, 20 feet tall, and was licensed by the State of Wisconsin. Anyway, very cool what you're doing! One of the great life it good episodes and there have been quite a few of those over the years. As to the fully corroded "critical item" Onan generator component that failed.. that was a shock. Onan intended that generator for the salt air marine environment but used some vendors part fabricated from an unsuitable type of metal. It should now be obvious to Onan engineering that it should have been fabricated from stainless steel so the user enjoys a much longer operational life.
Oh dear...the jiggle tube! Well done. We just tied in a super maramaru 2000 at Albert Basin Newry. Skipper Stephan a lovely chap. Arrived east coast Ireland with half his rudder, the other half the victim of Portuguese coast, Orca attack. Neat storey great crafts. More? Just ask. Loving the story. Safe sailing.
Listening to Brian's travel plans and concerns about staying out of Nicaragua, makes me realize the wisdom of offsetting your videos from your real time travel. Telegraphing your course is no bueno in case the wrong people are watching. I do realize your video schedule has to be offset due to editing and availability of upload windows, but that is another great reason for it. Stay safe!
Brian, You know soooo much about all your equipment and how to repair it. I learn so much by watching you attack your various boat projects (and when boats drag their anchor as well). Thanks for sharing!!!!
You should try diluting the moonshine to about 30% and add some sour cherry syrup. You can get that at an Eastern European grocery or deli. They have other flavors too. Normally you'd pour the alcohol over sour cherries and let them marinate for maybe a week (in a wide neck bottle or something like a gallon milk container made of glass) but the syrup should do.
Good value viewing.in Oz we're allowed to have a 500ml still.I guess that's to make any explosive properties a minimum.I believe in the states your the same,as long as you support the local produce farmers. It's a good feeling when you plan your next voyage and sort out all the nuts and bolts of it....you got a handle on that.

I would suggest you use distilled water to dilute the shine that way you don't get any mineral, fluoride, or residue from regular tap or bottled water that would effect the taste.
192 proof is the purest alcohol you can make using a still. After 96% (192 proof), water and alcohol will not separte by distillation. That should be good enough for drinking when you dilute by half or use it pure in a gas engine to extend your fuel. That would be kind of a waste so try to drink it all up.:). Hang Loose Delos!
Hey Brian, a word of caution (thinking back to the last washing machine issue you had). HE washing detergent is way too strong, a tablespoon at most is plenty for a load, it'll save the 'spider' that holds the drum from excess corrosion. Love the vids, long time fan!!
Yet another entertaining and educational episode. Brian, you have a real knack for teaching-great at communication and very patient. Baby nugs is going to have a unique and wonderful life experience as she gets a little older.
