Sweet is a 2D animated short exploring the idea of the word "sweet" through simple morphing animation on a white background.
Starting from a literal point with a piece of candy, the short evolves to show a deeper meaning behind the word "sweet."
Melissa's short utilizes fun yet simple designs to evoke warm - and sweet - emotions in the viewer.

Meet the Artist
Melissa Lyn, Animation Supervisor at Mercury Filmworks
"I'm a Jamaican-born Canadian Animation Supervisor at Mercury Filmworks and have worked on shows like Centaurworld, Hilda, the Lion Guard, and many others over the last eight years.
One of my passions is to let feelings guide my timing choices when animating. So when the opportunity to create Sweet came around, I might have been wanting to bake a cake or something because the concept hit me almost immediately: what could the animated representation of the word 'sweet' look like? Would it be a visual representation of taste? What about when someone makes a sweet gesture or says something is sweet? What does 'sweet' feel like? What kinds of emotions would it bring up?
These questions inspired the short alongside several design inspirations; Anime, Fairy Kei Fashion, the Red Bull commercials by the Kastner agency, and Ernest et Cewerene were some of the main ones.
I also really enjoy sweet things and sharing them with people, and so Sweet is not just about representing sweetness, but also my way of sharing something sweet with you, the audience!"
