    I had an old lady ask me if i was scared of wearing to much skulls so i look down at my outfit and scream 😝( i had a skull dress and necklace )
    haul videos are slowly replacing diy videos and the idea of materialism is killing the planet
    i love the chemistry between the two of you lovely witches 💕

      I love haul videos AND DIY videos equally to watch, I think part of it is DIY videos are actually kind of difficult to film well? At least without help in my experience.

      Miss Murder I personally wouldn't say haul videos are replacing diy videos...but I'd say diy videos aren't nearly trending as much and they're not getting nearly enough attention. I think youtube itself might play a huge part in this. I mean think about it, these haul videos might be sponsored...would youtube be more likely to trend a video with financial incentive, most definitely
      But I definitely do agree that that within itself sucks. Cause I love diy. It's my favorite hobby and I love to watch others do them..so it's unfortunate that those videos aren't getting as much appreciation. And you have to really dig for them

      Fatimahteatime have you checked out tezmaniatv and frightsummers they comes out with a ton of diys
      i see your point but most haul videos have expensive clothes and items that in reality most of us cant afford, also the amount of resources it takes to make an article of clothing is astonishing

    I've usually gotten a lot of compliments on my vests, I haven't had many bad reactions to how I dress but even if I did, I wouldn't take it to heart too much because dressing the way I do makes me happy and rude people are not going to ruin my day.
    I really hope to see more videos with Tabitha

    Vancouver goth here. Descent is the name of our monthly goth event at the Red Room. Never do I ever come across bullying, or any sort of discrimination at that event! I get compliments, or I pay them... I guess I'm lucky? I think It's SO important for a subculture to be inclusive. The misfits, darkly inclined, eccentric, whatever, need homes, too. We're all in this together.

    I enjoy watching videos on all these subjects, even though I am not Goth. They help others understand the movement, but it is silly to think it is ONLY about music, when it is about human beings and thus anyone who is Goth, or follows any other scene, is going to be multi-faceted and showing things like hauls, clothing, makeup, decorating, reading, movies, etc., shows how wonderfully layered the Goth culture is. imo, at least. :)

    A good haul is nice but a channel full of nothing BUT hauls (sponsored hauls at that) get pretty meh after awhile. Thrift hauls are always better than brand new for me . Lazy hauls are the worst where they don't even try on the clothing . Or people who do witch boxes who aren't even into the craft rubs me the wrong way. Goth doesn't equal occultism.

    • @Glitterygummybear
      @Glitterygummybear 6 років тому +6

      Pisces Rain I definitely agree we need more thrift hauls
      When I was younger and had less resources those were my favorite videos. Those videos are extremely helpful to baby bats because it can really help someone know what to look for or give them inspiration
      It sucks too when someone doesn't care at all about the craft and is obsessed with the """aesthetic"""
      It's just disappointing

      Its cool to see people actually into thrift hauls. I'm poor so I'm probably never going to have a killstar haul just a hey look at the one item i could afford thats a brand. It makes me feel down. like I can't afford all this stuff just for my channel I have bills to pay and i haven't the slightest clue how people afford to randomly spend $200 on one haul. The whole witchcraft boxing where there clueless just no no.. no... people need to stop that.

    • @KaiDecadence
      @KaiDecadence 6 років тому

      Ugh... Don't get me started on those freaking haul boxes. The whole witch/occult thing is nothing but shameless trending as some of these people who do them don't even know what they're talking about. But to be fair, I stopped watching unboxing videos in early-mid 2017, they were getting very boring to me. More power to those who like it, I just personally can't get into them.

      MisstressMourtisha don't be upset that you can't look like carbon copies of others, one day you'll be in a position where you will buy the things you want. You'll get more compliments from homemade or altered than a overpriced dress that'll be tired by next year.

    The reactions on how I dress vary, usually how close I am to the city. I once had a little boy shout across the street "I love your cloak!" and then asked his mom if he could get one and she said "Maybe. It's very cool." Then a couple weeks later I was in the library, dressed less extra, and a girl said "Mom, look at her!" and the mom said "DON'T" and moved quickly away. Like, damn, I'm not actually a vampire and I have to walk with a cane how much danger am I in a library??

    When I was younger, in pre-internet days, I used to go shopping with a friend or two and we'd all compare purchases after; if you went out somewhere looking good, people would ask where your clothes came from. I see haul videos as very much a modern iteration of this. Given that there aren't so many places for goths to socialise these days, it's good to be able to see the nice stuff people have bought (or been sent).

    I personally love haul videos because they inspire me to work harder so I can afford some of the beautiful things I see. But it also inspires me to diy something I already own to look more like the beautiful haul items. Personally I don’t find them materialistic. The haulers always are so full of gratitude when showing them. It’s good to see that they are grateful for the beautiful things and the talent of those that make them. 💜
    You guys are so fabulous.

    "... because it's Oklahoma..." I burst out laughing. I think that says a LOT. I work with the geriatric population now and they think that their age entitles them to voice their shitty opinions. One guy told me that I need to be careful of the way I "present" myself because people might think I'm a lesbian. And since I want my job I didn't say I don't give any damns about what people think about my appearance- that's their business, not mine, and if they are bigots, I don't want to have anything to do with them anyway. Then last week some guy (so far it's always men) said "I'm 80 so I get to ask you this. What's with that haircut?" I just said I do what I want but LORD the stuff I wanted to say.

    I never watch hauls or subscription box videos but I think it’s totally great that they’re being done. Usually if I watch a haul video it’s a thrift haul and if I watch a subscription box video it’s a pagan box. I do wish that there were more DIY videos and tutorials and videos discussing the music and the subculture history like back in 2013 when I stepped into the community, but people are becoming afraid of posting videos about music because of the people who comment “that’s not goth” and other shit. One time when I was at a rug store with my mom, some lady came up to me and prayed at me and said I was with the devil and shit and my mom had to shoo her away.

    What you say at the 13:00 mark really resonates. Goth subculture has always been attacked from the outside, and now it's happening from within as well. I've stopped calling myself "goth" out of fear of looking like a poser since I don't really like trad goth music (other than The Cure). I mainly listen to darkwave, industrial, aggrotech, and goth metal, but now I worry that the "elder goths" are going to judge me based on that.

    I get so many compliments from kids on my hair! It's blue/green right now, but had it violet for a while and they especially loved that. Love that kids aren't judgemental. "Why do you have rings in your lip?", "Why is your hair violet?", "Why do you do your makeup like that?" etc. 'cause they're actually curious. And you answer them and they like "ah, ok!" and then move on, and it's not a big deal. Adults have so many hang ups.

    For a movement that was based in punk rebellion, it seems strange that so many goths are concerned with conformity. If people want the goth subculture to thrive then diversity is key. Goth has to grow and change with the people that make up the community.

      Nerwin Willowcrow I think many older Goths are having trouble accepting that that today, things are not going to be the same as the 80s or 90s. Young people are allowed to do it their way. We didn't like middle aged people carrying on about "back in my day". I think young people are being painted with this broad brush of being less moral due to the internet.

    I definitely agree with you guys about the people that purposely argue online. I love goth music and I will talk with anybody who is willing to hear about my favorite bands, but there's a lot of people that are just really rude when it comes to discussions. I used to be friends online with a person like that, but she was such a mean person and degrading to others that I didn't want to associate with them.
    In regards to clothing hauls. I'm ok with seeing them every once in a while, but seeing the same brands and seeing the same clothes being purchased is sort of boring to me. But yeah I do love me some Punk Rave. I like seeing DIY videos more because of how personable it is.
    Thanks for making this video! Also shout out to Omaha!

    I think selfies are important, because it's about making good memories. I grew up in the 80s & 90s & we didn't do selfies because it was a risk - like, there was no way to see if you had the shot framed right, and on film it costs you money to develop shots. With digital photography it's possible. I have so many photos of my friends at events & parties but almost nothing of myself. It's like I don't exist.
    Now, think about that in terms of depression. If you have loads of evidence that you had good times & that you have actual friends you shared those good times with, then the overwhelming feeling that you never really mattered & nothing you do ever matters becomes a lot easier to counter. I love that my daughter is in the habit of saving old ticket stubs, making selfies & so on. She has a box where she keeps the physical keepsakes, and her online backup where she keeps a load of selfies & photos of good things she's seen.

    I really enjoyed listening to your views because I have seen the negativity as well. I am an artist so I am very visually inspired, more than musically inspired although my dad was a musician. That includes the way I dress and makeup because I like to express my creativity through the way I dress, and I create embroidered jewellery. I also love many subculture styles so I mix it up a lot as well, and I honestly cant stick to one style. I think gothic culture is highly creative in all ways, music and clothing and art. We should connect based on a mutual love of the culture in all forms.

    I really liked this video. I could listen to you two chatting all day. :P
    I'd like to share a short story of my own. I recently acquired my first black lipstick after years of wanting one (thank you kat von d), and I've been putting it on every chance I get. My family isn't really supportive of the way I like to dress and do my make up now that I'm an adult. I also have no friends who are into goth music or fashion, so the nasty comments of my family really hurt sometimes.
    What I'm trying to say is that I'm used to negative comments about the way I look outside my job. So one day I'm on the bus having my lovely black lipstick on and this old lady sitting next to me started talking to me and I expected the nasty comments were on the way. However, she just chatted with me about economics and daily life. She treated me like a normal person and the biggest surprise for me.. she called me pretty. Out of all the people around me, an old classy dressed lady called me pretty and looked past my appearance. She really made me feel happy that day and I smile every time I think of her.
    Sorry for the long comment and if I made any mistakes. English is not my first language.
    Thank you both for being so nice and sweet and keep making videos and art. I can't wait for the new esoterik album!

    I have been bullied for various things from having the wrong body shape to wearing a hat. If you don't conform some people will always feel the need to point you out one way or another.
    There are some perfectly great stories/writings on the net which we would never have gotten to see if it had been left to the publishers to decide what would make them the most money. At least now the decision is ours. If it's good, we'll read it. If not, we'll leave. Happy New Year! (love it when your cuckoo clock hits 11 or 12 while you're recording)

    Awesome discussion y'all!!! I get a lot of flack for finding the scene and the music later in life. By laer I mean I'm 25 and I started exploring the music when... 23 I think? I've admired the style for so long, so when I got into further looking at the goth community I discovered the music because, honestly, they really can't be separated once it comes down to it.
    My city had its first goth night in a LONG time in October so I hope it happens again, it was a blast!

      Emily Donnelly I'm 23 and I started looking deeply into the subculture this year. Just like you I always liked the aesthetic but I never looked into the subculture and immediately you learn about the music. Goth has so many different music styles that it seems impossible that you won't find anything to like. Good day to you.

      In what ways are you given grief for joining the subculture at an older age?

    • @TheDonutAddict
      @TheDonutAddict 6 років тому

      Kolton Bullard what I've noticed is that when you get older into the subculture you tend to get called a poser, or "normal " people around you think that something is wrong with you because the heavy make up and the clothes are for teenagers only. So if you as an adult decide what you want to do with your appearance you're immature if goth is your choice. :-P
      At least that's what I've noticed, but I know the question was about Emily.

    The issue with social media is that if it's not seen then clearly it didn't happen right? So basically the majority that you see online is photos because as you stated people want to see pretty things. I personally adore seeing how different each individual goth person dress, does their makeup, their style, ....etc it's inspiring and yes it's a form of art in my opinion as well as it shows their personality off a bit but as for the music often times people want to live in that moment listening to the music, going to the shows...etc they don't post about it because they're busy experiencing it.

  • @LoveBittenVamp

    Great video! You guys are cute ^^ I love hearing everyone's thoughts on these topics.
    UA-cam itself is I think intrinsically visual. It never really occurred to me before all this that people might take issue with haul/unboxing videos and stuff like that. For me youtube has mostly always been separate from other things like podcasts and radio shows. So I dunno. I think some, (not all!) but some of the criticism the more fashion focused channels get is unwarranted and unnecessary; especially when people take it to a really personal level about the uploader of those videos and make assumptions and rumors. It's starting to feel really nasty to me and not so much about their original issue. Getting the music out there, talking and sharing it more. No fingers need or should be pointed at anyone unless they are genuinely causing harm. I don't feel like they are. Make what you want to see. You can't expect anyone else to do everything.
    Goth/gothic subculture is very artistic. Music is an art form. Writing is an art form. Painting, sewing, makeup. Why one particular form is considered the most important part of it, as it is now and not when it started, I just don't understand. Goth vs gothic, I get their difference but talking about subcultures, if they are separate they interlace so much with each other that I just don't really see the point in creating that divide unless you want to know a person's musical leaning. I know what goth music is and it's sound and I'm a huge lover of it myself. It's not getting lost out there. The younger ones will find it and I did pretty damn quick when I was 14 looking goth up on wikipedia. I think my biggest issue is how some people have approached these topics. Talking about it is great, voicing opinions is great. But like I said before, I've seen a lot that feels downright malicious. I think the sentiment views are expressed is extremely important.
    P.S. I love your home! And the music in the background. I must know what it is!

  • @forestwitch9825

    Aw I loves this video. I get so many sweet compliments it's amazing, and honestly some of the comments I get are too funny I don't take it or myself to seriously. Makes all the bullshit not matter too. And thankfully it's been about 12 years since I have had a firework, snowball, rock or egg thrown at me! Thank fuck high school is over hahaha yay for coming near to 30! Yeah I get the annoyance and irk if someone is like "I'm so goth too don't you just love Black Veil Brides". And yeah there are distinctions between goth as a subculture which formed around music, and being Gothicly inclined and loving all the dark things in life. You got it so spot on! It's about people who like policing others! It's an issue with folks approaches to others in general with anything. Happens in little groups in other subcultures to. But people who act like that I generally find are just assholes in general and you don't want to sit with them cos they are super boring, repetitive and moany and just about ridiculing other people to feel superior and sort of "fit in".
    The age thing is the only thing that gets to me really I can't help when I was born etc. So get off my back about liking older bands and fashion and shit. It's fucking awesome that folk got to grow up around shit first hand and love it but don't make out like I have some deficit when liking a band because I wasn't there hahahaha. I can't help it damn it, and yes I'm jealous haha. I just love this subculture so much because of what you mention Alison. It attracts so many amazing creative people with so many incredible talents and outlooks. I loooooves it! Celebrate folks don't tear them down. We can all fit in the herse to Gothland! 🤗🖤🤗
    Also to counter a few ongoing comments. Wearing a Killstar shirt or Punk Rave dress absolutely does not make you Goth but it also doesn't make you not Goth either! 🤣🤣🤣

    I love everything about the goth scene, both the newer styles coming in and the older styles sticking around. I don't mind well thought hauls or fashion videos because for some Goths, their career is alternative fashion modeling, so they showcase products etc. These are great for anyone who wants to find a new company to purchase from or get reviews on things they were considering buying. I also don't mind selfies or art posts, because I love to see what other's are inspiring themselves with and it's healthy to occasionally admire your physique in the moment you're happy & yourself. I have no beef with those who do this for a living, whose career is alternative modeling & merchandise, who do this out of moderation but still contribute to the community. As for unboxings, I sort of watch them but for me, I think they're a waste of money. I'd rather bulk buy full products than get just a small sample per month.
    But, there does come a point where the community is seeing the face of the community is ONLY these things, it's ONLY fashion, it's ONLY one or two things. For me, I began to truly ''Be goth'' in my later teens, around 4 years ago, and my first thing to do was research. I stumbled upon your channel, GothicAlice's channel etc and I LOVED the conversational videos, I loved the discussion nature of it. This is why I love listening to Cemetery Confessions and other podcasts because it adds something to the community, it adds provoking, intellectual discussion. Fashion doesn't promote discussion and when it does, it resembles the stereotypical High/Haute Couture attitudes of ''upper''/''better'' snobbishness. I don't personally care what people consider goth music because I grew up with 80s music and to me, there's so many 'Non goth' songs that have dark lyrics that, for me, they represent darkness & the 'other' perceptions on life & art but music makes people talk, art makes people talk, having topics ready to talk about brings more perspectives, uniqueness & intellectual diversity to the community and in such a heated political climate the world is in, we NEED more people talking, discussing, debating; we need more videos like these. We need people to be introduced to stimulating concepts, theories, subjects of interest to encourage critical thought, knowledge gathering etc.
    To me, Goth wasn't just about art, music & fashion ,it was also about representing a community, like paganism, that represented knowledge, represented the unknown, the mysteries of life. So many goths are artists, musicians, readers, writers, thinkers and visionaries but these wonderful minds are being dampened by the more popular hauls, selfies and the lesser/surface interests and considering the new folk entering the community, I would love to see younger folks have a well rounded introduction to more than just fashion or hauls. This is why I love Angela Benedict (you guys should SO talk to each other!), TheGothicAlice, yourself & many others because you guys talk about so many things, you vlog, you review, you chat, you make it feel personal & real like instead of a person selling a product, they're sharing themselves for the world to be inspired by & I would LOVE that message to be encouraged in the online community more. I would LOVE younger people to know that it's not a bad thing to get intellectual, or artistic sometimes, that moderation & well balanced content isn't bad.
    Moderation is always key to a growing, broadening mindset & I feel lucky to be able to be part of a community that values that.

    In the 90's i got the hooker thing ALL the time, I agree about the ripped up fishnets and boots! its interesting how much more accepting people are these days, I suppose I'm
    a bit more toned down now that I'm 42 but I definitely get more complements these days than harassment when wearing something unique. in the 90's people would try and jump us, throw things our of cars at us and do some pretty nasty stuff...I hope this isn't still happening. I usually complement younger people...The woman sounds like she was jealous. I suppose when I say i "listened to this or that band back then"" I'm referring to when I got into them rather than I stopped listening to them. I actually just made a post asking what obscure bands people were into when they were young, its interesting because now almost everything is available online.

That's so funny u say that because before anyone says anything about me looking goth the first thing they say is "dominate me!" or "prostitute". But I never saw it as an insult. It's just weird that Gothic attire makes people think it's hooker like.

    I'm pro-selfie; there's nothing wrong with self-appreciation, feeling lovely & body-positive, and sharing the unique art & beauty of "being you" with the world. Hauls & unboxings: not my cup o'tea. Popular goth brands don't offer my size, so I don't watch their promos, and I'm not interested in monthly boxes full of trinkets & clutter. Meh. Music: I've discovered more goth music on YT than I ever did in my local scene or back in the olden days of mixed tape trades. Goth's still a thriving music scene. And yeah, why is everybody nitpicking?! Chill out, haters, let people be happy. When strangers make rude and belittling comments about your appearance, it says nothing about you, and everything about them. I think it's great to reclaim an insult as a compliment. Turn it around, and keep those muggles confused! LOL

    Well you wanted to start a discussion so I'll give my own 2 cents on these "issues" because I've been pretty vocal about them throughout 2017. Warning disclaimer, may be a bit of a long comment... Viewer Discretion is advised... LOL
    • "Fashion Goths / Selfies": I think you're not understanding the full reasoning of why a lot of people are annoyed with these kinds of people. The truth of the matter is it's not because they're taking pictures/selfies and posting it on social media, the problem that people are having with these people is that all they'll do is post their selfies, never talk about the music, not even a little bit and it just in turn. makes it feel like Goth is just some runway model competition (The "America's Next top Model" type of thing lol).
    Also because a certain well known UA-camr who I'm not going to name who would always go on and on about "Elitists this" and "elitists that" when it's pretty obvious they don't know what a true elitist actually is, it's just annoying is all. Anyway, at the end of the day, people don't think it's bad to post selfies or "OOTDs" or anything like that, It's just when that's all the person posts and doesn't share anything else about the goth subculture that has more for lack of better word, substance, that's when people get annoyed, at least from what I've seen.
    • "Music Nitpickers": See I'm probably going to get crap for this but eh, it has to be said. Honestly, I think that's a cop out excuse. In my 10 years of traversing through the scene, I have not seen people get all ansy and picky over actual Goth music. At the most, I've seen a small number of people say "Anything that came after the 80s is not Goth music" but these people are a minority and they never get taken seriously. I've found that as long as you're talking actual Goth bands no matter the era/genre (From Bauhaus to Switchblade Symphony. From Siouxsie to She Past Away. From Paralysed Age to Clan of Xymox. From Cruxshadows to 45 Grave. Etc. ), no one on average is going to give you crap.
    And another thing on this topic is just the annoying scapegoating. I've seen this far too much where if someone says that in order to be a Goth, they should enjoy Goth music (no matter the genre from trad post-punk, 90s Gothic rock, Darkwave, Coldwave, Deathrock,or Ethereal wave) and then the person gets all defensive and makes it sound like this means you can't listen to any other music genre. It's BS and they know it because that is not what the person was saying.
    It's pretty much like this. You can like other kinds of music and still be a Goth but if we're talking about Goth music and you say you're favorite Goth band is Evanescence, Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, or Cradle of Filth (to name a few), then yeah, of course a Goth is going to look at you with this " ಠ_ಠ " face lol Not because you like those bands but because you think that's what Goth music is. Now how the person responds is what matters. See for me, when someone says that, I won't say something like "OH you're such a poser", No NEVER. Instead, I'll say something like "Oh I see... Well that's not actually Goth music but I can recommend you some if you'd like". And then I'll ask them for what bands they like and try to give them Goth bands that have a similar tone like for example, if they like a lot of heavier sounding music, I'll give them something like Sisters of Mercy or Golden Apes and if it's Evanescence, I'll suggest Miranda Sex Garden or Requiem in White I try to make a game out of it so it's fun for the newcomer. :)
    "Who the fuck cares?" Again, I don't think you're fully grasping the situation. You're making it sound like the people who think you should like Goth music in order to be Goth are saying things like "How dare you listen to both Slipknot and Bauhaus! RAGE!" No one is doing that and youre "who the fuck cares" is part of what people are talking about. This is why so many of us bring up the "Goth" vs "Gothic" mentality and how there's a difference between the two. You can like things considered Gothic and Darkly inclined and not be a Goth. I don't understand why uttering that phrase is seen as an "elitist" thing to say.
    At the end of the day. Listen to whatever the hell you want but if you're claiming to be something that is music-based, you should at least enjoy the music (again, no matter 80s or not) that the subculture is centered around. And to anyone who reads this comment and thinks I'm some kind of elitist snob, go to my channel and look at my playlists and you'll see that I like all kinds of things so it's a moot point.
    • "Clothing Hauls": As someone myself who doesn't like Clothing hauls, I just don't watch them. But the reason why I don't like clothing hauls is because these days, it's usually all the same. Punk Rave, Killstar (which I honestly don't like), and DollsKill (another one I personally don't care for). The people end up buying roughly the same item(s) and it's just not fun to watch, at least for me. The iconic Wednesday Addams dress is a good example of this. I used to love that dress but then everyone and their mother bought it and show it off and now I can't stand looking at it lol
    I just miss the thrift hauls because it was so cool to see what people would find in thrift stores and customize them into their wardrobe. The hauls were always varied and not samey unlike these "Goth brand" clothing hauls that get repetitive with the items they pick up. But like I said, I tend not to think too much on this particular topic because I just don't watch them and it's enough for me. I just thought that maybe if you heard an opinion on why someone would dislike those kind of videos, it can help paint a perspective.
    -Mega sigh- Anyway, that's all I got. I don't want to make this comment longer than it needs to be. I hope this all makes at least a semblance of sense.

      Kai Decadence can never figure out emojis but you deserve a round of applause. It's alternative people that don't support the goth scene but still want to take the label as their own which I find annoying. They dress the part but don't live the lifestyle of an actual goth. They may as well be in fancy dress. People like Hello Batty that are literally there for the fashion and couldn't give two shits about the music. They are just painting a very vapid portrayal of the goth scene and we are more than just make up and clothes. Honestly I think a lot of us are one step away from telling those types of people to piss off and shut up. They aren't goth they are other. And should stop clamoring for our approval. If they aren't going to contribute anything and support their scene. Or at the very least listen to the podcasts and keep up with the music scavenger hunt if they are underage or don't have a scene locally. Just because a person wears a cookie cutter t-shirt by killstar or banned apparel it doesn't automatically equate to them being goth.

    • @KaiDecadence
      @KaiDecadence 6 років тому +2

      Thank you, I am so glad someone sees where I'm coming from with this. Because it's dismissive attitudes like "Who the hell cares about what is or isn't Goth" that put a stake in the genre. You know it's bad when someone has to ask "Is this band a Goth band?" when Goth music already has a clear cut sound and is simple to understand once you hear a bit of it. And like I said, I have no problem showing newcomers actual Goth music from all the subgenres of Goth but I'd be lying if I said I didn't wince every time I saw a question like that with a band like Cradle of Filth or Motionless in White (which do I even need to? lol)
      Like I said, there is a difference between "Goth" and "Gothic" and I find it hilarious how obvious Gothic/Darkly inclined people take such offense when a Goth doesn't think they're Goth because they don't listen to the music, that's usually where the annoying scapegoating thing happens.

    • @FrankenFunder
      @FrankenFunder 6 років тому +1

      Brendan Arzeno please tell me you are joking. Don't get me wrong I like Evanescence as far as their old stuff is concerned and for me it was very much a stepping stone into darker music before I found industrial/EBM/post punk and goth rock but goth Amy Lee ain't. Her music is dark pop rock like the Rasmus etc. Although it's baby bat music I can still appreciate it as it was a gateway to me finding the subculture. But I acknowledge their music is not goth rock. Most of the bands you have listed are gothic metal or symphonic metal etc. Newsflash not the same thing at all. Please get yourself a music education. The true queens of goth are siouxsie sioux and Patricia Morrison. Around way before Amy Lee was a glint in anyone's eye.

    • @KaiDecadence
      @KaiDecadence 6 років тому +5

      That's because Evanescence didn't do anything for the sound itself. They were never a Goth band. Just because Amy Lee dressed in Gothic fashion didn't mean her band was automatically Goth. There was absolutely no Goth sound to them at all. It's just general Alternative Metal. The only difference is that it's a female singer who plays Piano.
      This isn't about their success. So what? Congratulations for them for getting successful, that doesn't mean their music was Goth and it's not because they were successful. Look at Siouxsie and the Banshees, they were arguably pretty popular in their time. Popularity has nothing to do with this.
      And oh dear... Those bands. Look, those bands you listed (Sirenia, Leaves Eyes, Nightwish, and for record, Epica and Within Temptation), those are NOT Goth bands. They're Symphonic Metal. Always has been. Symphonic Metal is not a Goth genre, it's a Metal genre and before you call me a "hater" of this music, I'm not . I love Nightwish (with Tarja), Leaves Eyes, and Within Temptation but I can acknowledge they aren't Goth music. As for Cradle of Filth, they were/are Black metal and again, it's not a Goth band.
      Goth bands don't owe anything to Evanescence because they had nothing to do with Goth to begin with. Amy Lee is no queen of Goth rock, not in the slightest. That should be going to someone like Siouxsie Sioux, Lisa Hammer, Monica Richards, Gitane Demone, Eva O, or Patricia Morrison.
      So I'm sorry but no, I vehemently disagree with everything you said in the context of the Goth music genre and you're comment pretty much was my point with how people seem to conflate Goth and metal as the same thing when that is not the case at all.

    I feel like you guys are missing the point. In general the goth community doesn't have an issue with unboxings and the fashion/selfie side of things. Alison I know for a fact you are into the music side of things and do educational videos, vlogs at festivals as well as being in a band of your own etc as well which makes your chanel well rounded and yourself as a person. The people we are taking umbridge with is UA-camrs like Hello Batty that are only there for the fashion. She doesn't give a shit about supporting the scene or contributing anything useful. She genuinely thinks the queen the damned soundtrack is goth she's just that stupid. And it's not just the fact that she's a baby bat. It's the fact that she doesn't care and doesn't want to learn. People like social repose as well. He can just do one. He isn't even goth, he's emo. It's these alternative peeps that aren't goth but want to fit in when they don't like any of the music. You guys you support the scene so I feel I can support you. But people like Hello Batty are depicting a very vapid portrayal of what goth is and it's not like that at all. There are baby bats out there that genuinely believe that goth is what you make it, if you are just into diy, fashion and dark poetry then that is it apparently. Those things are all additional but at the heart of it is music. Had another argument with an obnoxious moron that thinks evanescence is goth and that Amy Lee is the queen of goth. Wtf? People are idiots.

      Thoths Temple exactly, you just spelled out everything I wanted to say I response to this video. I think it's very important to be kind and open to educating younger people who just don't know better yet, I remember listening to evaneacense when I was thirteen and never having heard anything as dark as that in my life. And at the time I'm sure I felt like that was goth as hell, but over time I learned more and my music tastes evolved, and same will happen to a lot of baby bats who really care about goth and learning more. But there are people and UA-camrs, the very ones you call out in your comment, that do put forth this false idea or rather paint an incomplete picture. What's going to happen is a rising of another sub group that is aesthetic oriented only and that bothers a lot of people because it feels like a cheap appropriation of what they are genuinely passionate about.

    • @FrankenFunder

      Thuringwethil Vaire I think the thing about now is that when we were in that awkward phase whilst we had the Internet (90's kids at least) because it was dial up things weren't as accessible. You could only be on the net for so long as parents would be complaining about the phone bill being too expensive as a result or telling you to get off so they could use the phone. Meaning there was less opportunity to make a prat of yourself lol. I listened to evanescence, Within Temptation, nightwish, HIM, the Rasmus etc thinking it was the dogs bollocks when I was 14 but at 16 when I joined vf I got heavily into industrial and ebm. goth rock and post punk from 18 onwards. Darkwave in my mid 20's and still exploring. I'm now 26. I kind of feel for them but also when I was of that age and someone seasoned with more experience in the goth scene was trying to educate me I would shut up and listen. I think it was Alison's original introduction to goth bands video that had me woke. This was back when she had purple hair before her well recognised blue hair when her eyeliner wasn't as on point as it is nowadays. Think she deleted that video and remade it. But yeah it got me to look bands up and learn. I wouldn't argue the toss back telling them they were wrong. There are a few kids on UA-cam in the comments that are genuinely interested and want to learn but there's way more with an attitude problem thinking they're always in the right and because we're older we're irrelevant all of a sudden. Just because we have a better understanding of something that's been around longer than they have been alive. And are old enough to go out and experience the club nights and other events etc. It's the snowflakes that want to appropriate a label and when you try and politely educate them as to why BVB isn't goth they cuss you out, call you an elitist and speak to you like a piece of shit; that I've had enough of.

    Hello Goth Team, you both look smart and intelligent So let me get a few points across - a bit of food for thought.
    1. If you are afraid to argue, and to use your full brain power to defeat someone in a mental discourse - that is bad and you don't belong on the internet. The internet at its wildest times was governed not by companies but by intelligent oddballs and missfits - people whithout whom we would not be here - they expressed radical thoughts and ideas under aliases. Granted you are showing yourself - and are taking everything negative with your actual persona - you should still be able to go in the comments / make a video and show and defend your views.
    2. I love unboxing videos, not so much Haul stuff, and your vlogs Goblin Queen. And there are 2 reasons for that - I am a guy and EVERY single one of you is killstarco and that feels an awfull lot like a dystopia to me (not the good kind) Facebook levels of in your face(book) monopoly. Granted that killstarco is probably the best quality wise and even your Haul videos have substance and reasoning. Consumerism is great untill it is,all that there is.
    3. Please split the online culture, from the real world culture- street cred from online should count for nothing the world is pretty much the same as in the 90's except that you lock yourself in the community and you have no time for yourself and for your ideas and for processing the world - haven't you noticed a drop in your attention span. Do you remember the last thing you read last night - did it leave a permanent imprint in your memory?
    I hope you are having a great day and stay Awesome.
