Jailbreak was covered by The Dropkick Murphys and Anthrax who also covered The Cowboy Song. Whiskey In A Jar was covered by Metallica. Iron Maiden covered Massacre. Rosalie was covered by Motorhead, Mastadon covered Emerald and Megadeth covered Cold Sweat. Thin Lizzy is popular in the metal community, sometimes people need to be reminded of their importance in music history.
I had no idea how heavily covered the band were. How lovely it was to learn that they are so well thought of in the wider music community 😊
@@SoulSingerDiscovers There are so many great pre-metal rock bands that have amazing covers by metal bands. Cum On Feel The Noize and Mama We're All Crazy Now by Quiet Riot are actually Slade covers and the NWOBHM and first all-female metal group Girlschool did popular covers of ZZ Top's Tush and Sweet's Fox On The Run. In This Moment (You would love lead singer Maria Brink's sultry and powerful voice) did a fantastic cover of Queen's We Will Rock You with Taylor Momsen (Cindy Lou Who in the Jim Carrey Grinch movie) of The Pretty Reckless and Lzzy Hale of Halestorm. In This Moment also did the John Wick 4 theme song I Would Die For You. I actually love that song as John Wick's theme, it's haunting, you should react to it.
And before anyone says ZZ Top wasn't an inspiration to metal should check out Pantera who loved ZZ Top and their bluesy riffs. Motorhead did a cover of ZZ Top's Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers too.
Gary Moore did a cover of Emerald as well plus he and Phil, Brian Downey (i think) did a version of Still In Love With You
@@danielolson5378 Brian Downey, I don't see that name very often, yeah that was him on the Nightlife album version of Still In LOve With You. Canadian actor Brian Downey, he played Stanley Tweedle on one of my all time favourite tv shows, Lexx. He was also the main antagonist in the movie Hobo With A Shotgun. Don't see him much on tv anymore either.
The Gary Moore Emerald cover is also Brian, I had to check that, I thought it was Cozy Powell who was the drummer for Gary on After The War, but that track is a bonus and not the line-up of the band. Simon Phillips is the drummer on "Speak for Yourself" and "Blood of Emeralds" but Cozy is the drummer on everything else from that album & it's bonus tracks.
Phil Lynott is a legend. Thanks for having Thin Lizzy on your channel! "Live and Dangerous" is one of the all-time great live albums. 🤟
It was my absolute pleasure. What a wonderful band 😊
totally with you there. i listened to live the double album but still prefer live and dangerous every time, and yes Phil lynott is a legend.
That and "Strangers In The Night". My 2 favs.
@@GrampsD63 Good call! Two of the best live albums ever!
Phil Lynott's vocal lines were really off the wall, behind the beat, ahead of the beat, conversational as you say. Made him unique in the rock world.
Wonderful. One of my first favourite bands från the 70's. I saw Thin Lizzy every time they played in Sweden from 1980 until the breakup and Phils death. I even saw both solo shows he did in Sweden as well.
They are probably loved by most rock musicians even if they don't say so in public. They have inspired so many rock and metal bands with their two guitars playing solos and harmonies together.
It’s so lovely to see that they are so well thought of. Thanks for tuning again Mikael! 😊
@@SoulSingerDiscovers Always Melissa. I don't miss a chance to see and hear you and your beautiful Scottish accent. 😘
Everyone should check
Phil Lynott " Ode to A Black Man" off his 82 solo album with Huey Lewis on harmonica.
One of the best songs ever written!!
Check Harlem From Grand Slam, live version....incredible
Huey plays on Live & Dangerous, on Baby Drives Me Crazy
Interesting fact, a Thin Lizzy tribute band called Thin Az Lizzy played at a festival in Holland, the saxophone player here ( John Earl) was playing with another band at the festival and he jamed with Thin Az Lizzy on Dancing In The Moonlight when they played, how cool is that.
Philip, I believe I would’ve had a nervous breakdown if I saw something that cool 😆
This is 'John 'Irish' Earle. on sax, he was in the support band for this tour, Graham Parker and the Rumour. (They did a cracking version of the Tramps song, 'Hold back the night')
I love this song, one of my favourite odes to marijuana.
Thank you fir NOT doing Whiskey in the Jar. Everyone and their Granny goes fir that one. Lizzy have a wonderful catalogue of brilliant songs to be explored.🤘🏻🇬🇧🖤
P.S. The Angel and The Gambler aff the Virtual XI album by Iron Maiden has horns on it. You'll have to listen to the album version. Enjoy 😁
Thanks for sharing this great band one of my favorites. Two great guitarists one Scottish and one American, and of course Phil and Brian two Irishmen killing it on vocals, bass and drums!
Muse features brass in a lot of their songs - Knights of Cydonia (on Black Holes & Revelations) features trumpets, and one of the two versions of Pressure (on Simulation Theory Super Deluxe) features the UCLA marching band.
You had me at Thin Lizzy, Tom Waits, Ron Perlman, & Billy Connolly in the same video. It's like the perfect meal.
A very disjointed meal :P Thank you for watching my dude 🥰
For some metal that features a saxophone, check out Where Owls Know My Name or The Silent Life by Rivers of Nihil. The entire album features a saxophone and it’s great!
I will do! Thanks my dude! :)
Came here to say this!!
Also the band Yakuza
The American metal band Riot used the Tower of Power horn section on their song "On Your Knees" !! Check it out....1989 material....
You had me at timer of power 💪😊
Personally, Thin Lizzy is my absolute favorite band. I love every album and each one is different from the one before and the one after it. So many good songs.
While I never listen to the boys are back in town on it's own anymore cause it's overplayed. I never skip it on the album, and always enjoy it when it does come on.
Dancing in the Moonlight has been one of my very favorites. Bothersome when you mention the name and people think it must be a cover of the top loader song.
Thanks so much for your comment my dude! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch. 😊💜
If you’re curious about prog death metal including a saxophone, Rivers of Nihil will be an interesting experience
I will do thank you so much my dude 😊
"Dancing in the Moonlight" is my favorite Thin Lizzy tune. Love the groove!
Magnum, UK hard rock band, used saxophone in some of their songs
Melisa, if you want metal featuring sax, check out the collaboration Epica did last year with the band Shining, or really just their front person Jørgen Munkeby. The song is called "The Final Lullaby". Go for the official video version, which is based on footage from their 20th anniversary show, where the song was debuted.
When Epica perform this song on tour, their own singer Simone Simons does both vocal parts.
I’ll check out your recommendations thank you so much for that😊
@@SoulSingerDiscovers I came across another one after I wrote the above: Ayreon's song featuring Simone Simons and Tommy Karevik, called "Daniel's descent into Transitus Medley" (be sure to pick the Medley, at 7 minutes 23 seconds, and not the straight version which is around 2 minutes).
Not necessarily sax, but some prominent brass.
Bless Ewan ❤
Thank you for that Jim 💜
Some hard rock / metal bands that use brass / woodwind:
Hanoi Rocks (Finnish glam pioneers) - sax
Rivers of Nihil (US tech death) - sax
Sigh (Japanese avant-garde black metal) - sax
Legs Diamond (US hard rock / pomp rock) - flute
Imperial Triumphant (US avant-garde black metal) - sax
Fishbone (US genre defying) - full brass + sax
The Middlenight Men (UK glam / power pop) - full brass
Terrorvision (UK Britrock) - trumpet
Fatso Jetson (US stoner) - sax
Foreigner ...obviously
Boulevard (Canadian AOR) - sax
Wot Gorilla? (UK post rock) - sax
Not to mention all of the hard rock / punk bands that incorporate ska: Random Hand; Dog Eat Dog; The Mighty Mighty Bosstones; Capdown etc.; Prog / Psych bands: Jethro Tull; Zappa; Focus; Spriggan Mist etc...... and then the folk metal bands that use flute .... and the symphonic metal bands ........
I loved it, thanks a lot for this discovery !
I'm used to this style of music (raised in the 70's and early 80's by parents that had good tastes in music ^^) but didn't know this band : real thanks. I'm no singer but I start screaming too (but I just pretended to do it in irish ^^ )
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Thin Lizzy... Metal? 😂 I'd say Hard Rock at best.
I also LOVE Tom Waits!! Heartattck and Vine is a great album! One of my favorites around Halloween is Whistlin' Past the Graveyard
David! Don’t get me started on waits! We’ll be here all day :P
Metal bands that feature un-metal instruments? Oh, I got your band, Feuerschwanz. They're a German Folk Metal band, they have a violinist, a flutist, they use weird stuff like a hurdy-gurdy and the jaw harp as well as actual harps, bagpipes, cellos, you'll get all kinds of sounds you've never heard from a metal band.
Try their cover of SEEED's "Ding" or Manowar's "Warriors Of The World" they feature the amazingly talented and drop dead gorgeous Melissa Bonny, the vocalist of Ad Infinitum.
Ding is the better choice, Melissa does gutterals.
The Almighty (Scottish rock/metal band) used a horn section on 'All Sussed Out'. Somewhat relevantly, the Irish lead singer, Ricky Warwick, has gone on to sing with Thin Lizzy (and sings with Black Star Riders, which is what the rest of Thin Lizzy do when they're not performing Thin LIzzy songs).
Eric bell, the original guitarist with Thin Lizzy, quit the band when he threw his guitar up in the air at a concert, walked stage leaving just Phil Lynott and Brian Downey on stage.
Fishbone has a mini horn section. Listen to the track "So many millions"
I know Mr. Bungle have used brass instruments at times, the only thing is I'm not sure they're specifically considered metal, they kinda cover a few genre's...
Lynott was such a great frontman and had a fabolous voice. And the dual guitar usage they were one of the first who did that in a band.
Usage of saxophone in metal: Rivers of Nihil "The Silent Life", and Eluveitie has quite the amount of different instruments (check out Rebirth), Hungarian Sear Bliss is using trombone...
Oh wow, I haven’t been given this recommendation yet. I’ll be sure to check it out. Thank you I dude again for watching😊
they did some good numbers with Huey Lewis also.
I’ll check it out 😊
Nobody got shit on Billy, the master! :)
I concur! :)
Don't forget Fools Gold 🙂
Still In Love With You. From the Live & Dangerous album. All the feels. Easily Lynotts best vocal
I’ll check it out. Thank you so much for watching Paul 😊
For sax in metal check out "Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name". It's not the entire songs but there's a sax solo and its amazing. :>
Adding this to my list of discoveries as we speak thank you so much my dude :-)
Guitarist closest to the camera, Scotsman called Brian Robertson. Liked a drink.
The legend Thin Lizzy are going to lift in the. Next few years I really think Gen Z will get what their about
I really hope you’re right 😊💜
Legends
Blood, Sweat and Tears, Chicago, Tower Of Power 3 horn inspired groups.
Yeah I know these ones, Ill need to keep digging!
Metal bands that use brass? Avenged Sevenfold to great effect on their recent albums; Great sax solo on Tesseract's Cabali Yau; Opeth use wind instruments, flute mostly (probably doesn't count); and although Steven Wilson is considered prog, whether it be in his solo work or with Porcupine Tree, there's some brass in there too. That's off the top of my head. Probably loads more.
BTW, why would the requester of this song think people would hate it? It's a classic!
ha ha have a laugh, my ma was phil lynotts baby sitter. the big yin best damn comedian ever.
If you want a horn section in your metallic music check out The Mighty Mighty Bostones - a mix of metal, reggae and hard-core punk known as Ska-core. Really bouncy fun stuff.
Also, Phil Lynott did some more "metal" stuff with Gary Moore.
Thank you for these Alex, another little rabbit hole to go down 😊
Hey, my previous coworker is the singer of "Just Lizzy" a cover band from Gothenburg that is actually invited every year on Phils birthday to perform in his local pub.
Check them out!!
Sounds fantastic, will do 😊
@@SoulSingerDiscovers We saw them this saturday, sister said john sykes is a right down a$$hole......my other sister was (as i know now) together with their manager......had no idea!! :)
To answer the question about brass in metal I was once in a small shop that had some metal music playing in the background. In place of the usual lead guitar there was an awesome trumpet solo. To this day I wish I'd asked the guy in the shop who it was.
So yes there is a trumpet in metal but I don't know who it is.
My brother and I are coming over to visit Scotland in a few years (it's where our family came from). What would be some good places to visit in terms of history?,and great pubs! I was told by some people from Scotland that telling them your from American is not the best idea, but if you tell them your a Texan they can dig it. Is that true?
Yeah, a lot of Scottish people do like a Texan. Waiting a cowboy hat would almost certainly get more people talking to you and maybe a few free beers 😆
Thin Lizzy is my answer to the question: "If you could travel back in time and see ONE band you never got to see who would it be?"
I think I will agree on this one! What a gig it would have been! :)
If you like Tom Waits, I feel like you should give Major Parkinson a listen. Very interesting band. I'd suggest Heart of Hickory, Impermanence, or Isabel: A Report to the Academy.
Nice! Thank you, Ill check it out! :)
As You know, I have extensive knowledge of rock and metal. An answer to your question about metal and brass is the song Tangled In A Web by Lynch Mob. Please check out the video. I Love Thin Lizzy! They influenced some of metals best. Glad to be a Member of Your Channel! You made My day way better! Keep up the great work My Fine Scottish Lady! ❤❤❤
Thank you Scott! Glad I could bring a little sunshine your way! I’ll check them out because it would be really fascinating to do some metal that has a full brass section I can’t even imagine how that would sound! Hope you’re having an amazing week 🥰🥰🥰
That was Brian Robertson stage right. A Scot!
Meant to add, if you want to hear a Scottish accent you want The Sensational Alex Harvey Band!
Rocket From The Crypt have a full horn section but more punk/psychobilly.
You had me at Psychobilly! 😊
Oh, what a great surprise! A reaction to our dude and legendary bass player Phil Lynott (R.I.P.). Love it.
Oh, and I actually am quite sure I have seen a live video of Sunn O))) (yeah, that's the name of the band) with a trombone on stage. You asked for brass in metal, well... So I am pretty sure it exists. If I am wrong, please correct me, anyone. Sunn O))) is active in quite an extreme metal subgenre, drone doom. (You don't need drums for it. It is literally too slow to justify the usage of rhythm instruments. LOL) It is definitely not for everyone, but as a musician, I can only say: Watch a live video of them once in life. Probably NOT suitable for your channel. Probably too boring and you take the risk of falling asleep while editing your reaction. But for private experience. It redefines the idea of rhythm and tempo in metal. They are not the only ones doing this, there are bands that have songs of over an hour of playing time. I listened to some psychedelic and drone doom bands for a while, especially Queen Elephantine (exotic, psychedelic, drone doom), for a while.
I was in a heavy rock / heavy metal band in the 90s and we had one song with a sax, because our vocalist could play it and we gave him a sexyphone solo in the set list. It was always fun.
So, brass in metal exists for sure.
I A.D.D. sidetracked.
Phil Lynott was quite popular among the bass players in heavy bands of the 80s and 90s that I met. For a reason. First, he was a good bass player. His bass lines are very well written and he was a good performer, too. Second, he was a good vocalist. Third, he was a good entertainer. Lastly, he was an Irishman, everybody knows they know how to make music and they know how to drink. Enough to become legendary.
I did not know that the statue in Dublin is so tall! Or is it you being so short, Melisa?
However, this was a nice and unexpected video, and I wish you a great end of the week. 🍻❤
PS: I totally forgot: There is brass in the Periphery recommendation of mine: "Wildfire" from this year. I still poke you about them. I know you reacted to two full albums on your hubbies channel, but "Wildfire" really is a masterpiece, even for Periphery's high standards.
A wonderful introduction to brass in sax and the way your brain works Martin! I like the sound of this drone doom stuff! I love a good drone, although I would certainly be at risk of a nap because I find them so soothing. But Ill check out some of these wonderful band names :P Yeah I think Rikard was a little worried this wouldn’t be metal enough for folks but I think its probably one of those bands that’s just universally liked. I am alas 5 foot 3, so I am pretty short but this is a big statue :P Lovely to see you pop up again my dude! I hope you have an amazing weekend 🥰❤️
@@SoulSingerDiscovers Haha, so you are pretty exactly one foot smaller than me! Guys, you seriously should come over to the light side of the force, where the metric system rules. Although I studied physics and am pretty aware of most imperial units, I still am so unsure that I google that stuff each time again, LOL. You have your own money in Scotland, and AFAIK the metric system coexists somehow in the meantime, but you should really make the effort to get away from his majesty's crude measurements... ;-)
As of how my brain works, when it comes to things like depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety stuff and psychotic moments, drug-free, I tend to not like the way my brain works, but hey, there is still intelligence, creativity and emotional extremes that I most probably would not trade for anything, hahahaha.
Yeah, let's see how amazing this weekend can get. (For Queen Elephantine I recommend 'Kabir' as a first listening...) These bands I mentioned were my connection to metal when I was deeply into Trip Hop (esp. Massive Attack). ... I had some strange musical habits for a while. 😀 The extreme stuff opened me up again for stuff like stoner rock and modern doom metal, though. I think it is all about different perspectives that musicians should get. You can 'forget' them later on, and probably at some point in time you make your own stuff that hopefully has an original touch. I mean, when I started, the best and most advanced original music came from the places that were very far from the culturally overdosed metropoles, with very little influence and interaction with trendy stuff. And nowadays, we have everything everywhere and all at once ... and an overkill of music that leads to phenomena like 9,857 bands that sound exactly like Periphery and 2,684 bands that sound like Polyphia, and they all claim to be musically authentic and original, although most of them just want to impress women (some things never change). LOL.
So, IMHO, we should forget about genre definitions and taboos and come back to music itself. I think that esp. in metal, the sub-genre definitions and discussions are the academic nitpicking of non-academics, most of the time, with terms invented by music journalists who wanted to be music inventors but were not...
Phew.
Another monologue found a sudden end because coffee is ready.
☕
Oh, and I have quite a lot of fun with how your brain works, too. Pretty obvious, huh? 😀
For a band playing good music and using instruments from an orchestra, I would check out Streetlight Manifesto. They have a live video on youtube playing the song We Will Fall Together. I promise you that it is fantastic for my ears :)
you deffo haven't heard Edgar or Johnny Winters
if you want sax rock blues and all in between
Edgar Winter group "Frankenstein "
or Johnny Winter " Tobacco road "
Sorry Dave, I absolutely have. In fact in one of the old soul bands that used to work in, we did a version of Jungle Love, by Morris Day and The Time, that went into Frankenstein. 😊
Ghost does some sax in their stuff Melisa.
Saxophone and cow bell. All songs need more.
Check out Brass Against. Cover of Tool song The Pot is awesome. But their Rage covers are excellent as well
metal with brass ? coming right up .... Diablo Swing Orchestra (ua-cam.com/video/WU1dtLsNHSQ/v-deo.html&pp=ygUdZGlhYmxvZSBzd2luZyBvcmNoZXN0cmEgYmxhY2s%3D) and/or Brown Sabbath (ua-cam.com/video/GoqcIQ37amo/v-deo.html&pp=ygUgYnJvd24gc2FiYmF0aCBmYWlyaWVzIHdlYXIgYm9vdHM%3D) ... and there are a few more songs where a sax magically appears. but these two use brass regularly.
Perfection! Thanks for this my dude! :)
Lizzy are great. That's all.😊
Massacre!
Saddam a go-go by gwar is metal with brass
What a title! Outstanding! :)
@thatmelisakelly it's a classic 😅 you'll love the theater of it.
...and should I wear my Cowboy hat?
Maybe the most extreme examples of taking on American accents when singing are actually from soul. I can think of Joss Stone, Dusty Sprintfield and of course Amy Winehouse.
I suppose it's not dissimilar to how bands from non-English-speaking places will make songs with English lyrics. Making music in a foreign tongue seems to be something humans often want to do.
I would like to send you a video, but I don't know how...
Here’s my email melisakellyandtsc@gmail.com Maybe send via wetransfer.com

Hey Melissa there are the band ExEYe I think how youse some SAxophone, Crimson Glory also youse some, Springsteen has his Dr. of Soul, Udo Dirkschneider had a cooperation with the army marine corpsband from germany, and I May think also the BAnd between the buried and me and rivers of nihil also have some sax in some songs. also Aerosmith yoused in one song or two some bras elements in songs in the Album get a grip. and i think the Band who also youse some sax calld themself Pnazerballett. Where is Gary Moore didnt see him in the video bad move kicking out him from the group he was like the best guitarist in the world but i like Thin Lizzy i just like Gary a little bit Moore have a nice day peace
You keep refering to Phil as British when he was the most Irish of Irish men
At no point did I call him British. I referred to British acts around at the same time as Thin Lizzy. Infact I did a big section where I talked about his Irishness and his mother and his statue in Dublin.
Please don't keep referring to Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy as British, its massively disrespectful.
With as much respect as possible, I don’t think at any point I did. I believe I said other British bands that remind me of Phils voice were Ian Drury referring to them, infact I think I not only made a fairly big deal about him being Irish but also that I wasn’t sure if he was northern or southern pointing out I was careful not to club them together as that’s important but I guess there’s always got to be one person who sees offence where there is none.
Also, are you Southern Irish yourself? Out of curiosity, as someone who will for the foreseeable will been seen as British whether they voted for it or not, it’s a chewy one for sure
Totally underrated band. You can't really pigeon hole their style, as it changes frequently. As a comment below says, try Johnny the Fox (studio version) ... Great analysis btw :)
Thank you so much for watching it was honestly such a pleasure to listen to this song😊
Reporter: "What does it feel like being black and Irish?"
Phil Lynott: "Like a pint of Guinness."
Sidenote: Guinness Extra Stout is the best Draught beer, bitter, sweet and dry, Guinness Gold is the best Lager, crisp and fruity with a hint of chocolate and caramel, and Guinness Golden Ale is the best Pilsner, smells like fresh bakes biscuits and smooooooth like malty cream. The Irish know how to brew damn fine beer.
The best lineup with Robbo and Scott. Scotts solo is incredible in how restrained yet emotive it is while serving the song perfect. Very underrated guitarist.
You had me at serving the song! :)
A beautiful sole that was destroyed by the industry! Loved Lizzy through all their styles, every variation filled with class musicianship. My personal fave is the Life Live album - my tape recorder had it loaded for months back in the day.
The shoe industry?
I prefer Thicc Lizzy, but Thin Lizzy is pretty good too.
Alice Cooper - Welcome To My Nightmare. It's a rock opera concept album about a boy named Steven and his nightmares, written like a Broadway play with all the standard instruments you would hear in an orchestra and even has a children's choir singing background vocals. Not exactly metal but it's out there as far as experimentation and it's actually a really good album.
There's been talk about doing a stage adaption but nothing yet. It has to star Alice so if they're doing it they better hurry, he's like 75 years old now.
Mr bungles self titled album is metal with sax n horns. One of the most amazing experimental albums ever
Maybe try Love is a Fist by Mr bungle
I have them on my list and I cannot wait because I truly believe they’re gonna be right up my street. 😊
One of the best rock bands not enough people know about. One of my all time favorites.
Huge Lizzy fan. Guitar band. Great drummer, usually followed by Massacre, in concert.
How cant you like Thin Lizzy? Its legendary.
And you are looking for metal with Saxophone. Amorphis is using that on what i can remember now a song called Veil of sin.
Thank you my dude! Ill check it out! :)
@@SoulSingerDiscovers Awesome please do..
Diablo swing orchestra are jazz metal have lots
Vintersea epica and gloryhammer all have a song each with a saxophone
X Ray Spex are a punk band but with a saxophone as one of the main instruments
Thanks for this my dude! :)
You're pronouncing Lynott correctly!
Generally, Thin Lizzy are very underrated IMO. Another song of theirs that you might enjoy is Black Rose, which is rockier (even though it's in 7/4!) with some Irish folk tunes thrown into an instrumental section.
There are three songs from Thin Lizzy everyone should know;
1) Emerald
2) Black Rose (most Irish rock song I’ve ever heard)
3) Bad Reputation
Ill check it out! Thanks for watching my dude :)
@@SoulSingerDiscovers Black Rose is an absolute barnstormer of a track and the guitar solo back and forth is awesome. First gig I went to was Lizzy on the Black Rose tour - the song holds a special place in my heart!
Defo not guilty pleasure theure considered legends by most
Good to know! :)
Johnny the Fox
There’s a progressive technical death metal band called Fractal Universe, their singer plays sax and sometimes throws random sax solos into their songs. Check out “A Clockwork Expectation” if you want a good example, you might have fun reacting to the vocals on that one too.
It’s interesting that you like the northern irish accent, as a norn iron local myself, I’ve always rather enjoyed the sound of the scottish accent!
Thank you for the suggestion! Oh I love the norn iron accent! It’s just lush! 🥰
@@SoulSingerDiscovers The Painter's Palette album by Ephel Duath is metal with a very jazzy sound, and it has a lot of sax too.
Billy Connolly, I like him, he's actually a Sir due to being Knighted so you have to call him Sir William or you get beheaded or something. Anyone else watch his tv shows where he travels around on his motorcycle in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Route 66 in the USA? He's the cool uncle everyone wishes they had. My dad was a biker, he was associated with the Hell's Angels in Vancouver, BC, not a member though, he was more like the guy who filled their prescriptions...yeah, that's it, my dad was their "Doctor Rockter". It's a song by WASP off the album The Crimson Idol...I highly recommend you listen to it, all of it, it's a concept album, tells a story that weaves throughout every song. You will love Blackie's voice.
I don't know a metal band with a brass section, but a brass band that plays metal: Brass Against. They play mostly Rage Against the Machine and Tool covers. I love their rendition of The Pot
Phil's vocal style was very jazz-influenced, where the choruses would resolve on a low note as opposed to most rock bands in the 70s, who would build up into higher registers.
The Little Angels used a horn section called The Big Bad Horns both on record and on tour. Not sure they'd be considered metal these days but, they did appear on the compilation album "Marquee Metal". "Radical Your Lover" features the horns quite prominently but other songs such as "She's A Little Angel", "Too Much Too Young" and "Young Gods" just use the horns to fatten out the sound.
Probably hard rock, but they were a lot of fun, so I'd give them a pass. 😀
Phil is from West Bromwich in England, that's where he was born, his parents split up and his mom moved to Manchester, she had two more children but gave them up for adoption. Phil went to live with his grandparents in Dublin, The Republic of Eire (South) when he was in elementary school because he was being bullied in England for being mixed race and started skipping school to avoid his abusers, the authorities threatened to take him away because of his problems at school so her parents offered to take him in. His mother continued living in England and they remained close but he was raised by his grandparents in Ireland.
Dear Melisa: my brother and sister in law are leaving tomorrow. HE saw 'em live (I never did). He reported, how Phil was using the spotlight, shining on him and his guitar, to reflect it back into the audience, while playing.
Talking accents: when studying, my brother went to Canada for 3 months, and then straight down to Australia for another 3.
Later on, back in Germany, working on his doctors degree, there was a couple from the US, working there.
They where always excited, when a german guy, speaking fluent english, was pronouncing one word with a canadian accent.
And the next word (in that same sentence) with an australian accent.
Only one native english speaker ever stated to have problems, understanding me: my (step-) son J. (Oklahoma, US.)
Noone else, ever. If in Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, UK, everywhere else in the US... *sigh*
Have you heard Dolly Parton going ROCK? Brandnew. World on fire. I love it! She's a legend.
In my book: THIS is prooving the reason why. Bebe Rexha lately stated, that Dolly is actually collaborating with her.
Have fun, looking that up.
The punk-metal or perhaps Oi!-ska-metal band Snuff from North London feature a trombone. Guitar, bass, drums, Hammond organ and trombone. Snuff are great, but tend to sound a bit fuzzy and blarey which may not be the best for sound editing, but you should give them a try anyway. Anything off the album DemmaMussaBeBonk is great (Flibbiddydibbidydob and Blue Gravy: Phase 9 are also ace) but my favourite is Horse and Cart, which is relatively easy to follow the lyrics, at least on the album version.
I love Lizzy but prefer the first 2 albums which are very bluesy and folky ...The later stuff made them famous of course but i missed that folk angle....peace...
Hanoi Rocks would be one metal-ish band who featured quite a bit of brass played by lead singer Micheal Monroe.
At the start of this video, he's talking into the ear of John Earle. And what he said was, I have a bit of a sore throat, we've down tuned a half step. which means he had to transpose the solo on Sax on the fly. no easy thing.
i think you would enjoy roisin dubh(Black rose) with gary moore for the story telling or thunder and lightning for the raw energy.
Thin Lizzy were not a metal band. Whoever soloed, always musical and creative.
I like this Band, I admit they seem a bit Odd to Me due to the Brass, and their Style Changes. We have Boys are Back in Town which Sounds Metal, then We have this Melody as well as others..... Pint of Guinness , That's Golden. 🍺🤣
Huey Lewis (News) played harmonica around this time
6 months late but brass in metal = Diablo Swing Orchestra.
Saxophone player is Huey Lewis from Back to the future x
