If you are looking for the old videos, I have archived them on this playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLp-6MMWURCz3FMshMrq60zuAXbpP7zk6n.html
I am currently running an algorithmic experiment with the new videos that require only those to be on the channel page.

your old videos were incredibly insightful and valuable. I thought they had a pile of views. It is a pity that they are quite hard to find now.
People are trying to get PCVR running on the Steamdeck these days and some of the stuff you did a couple of years ago would be very valuable to them.
EDIT: sorry if I sounded negative. Kudos to you for your good work both in your old videos and in your new phase. You have to do what you enjoy the most. All the best in your new endeavours!

You probably won't see this comment but I'm African and I stay in a remote country (Zambia to be exact) we don't have much here but we get by.
I've always been the weird kid who didn't fit in so when my parents got me my first pc I loved it and I wanted to explore so much of it.
Games have always been my passion but because of hardware limitations I couldn't even think of trying the much harder to run games, that was till I found your videos. I'd go on rumbling but you literally saved me a number of times I'd contemplate suicide but I'd remember there's a new game coming out. Then I'd also remember my shitty hardware but I'd always have hope knowing if I waited hard enough you'd get to it and I could finally play it. Times have changed and I grew up so , I guess what I'm trying to say is thankyou.
For all those sleepless nights and research. They helped a little kid in Africa. THANKYOU.
What ever you plan to do now I'll follow and leave a like lol something I should have been doing before. Go well and make videos that might save another kids life and put smiles on many others.
    Thankyou Low spec gamer.

I think this video is gonna resonate with a lot of us budget based creators, this year burned me out so hard.
New prices are through the roof, used prices have pushed us back almost to the C2Q being a “good buy” again, the last new hardware to excite me was the 200GE which I bought instantly… since then absolutely nothing has excited me enough to go out and buy instantly.
Best of luck with the future, will keep watching regardless, I absolutely adore looking into the older consoles, admittedly still from a performance rather than historical point of view, but as it stands you can have a lot more fun with these old consoles on the cheap, than you can PCs at the moment. 👍

Whenever I decide to break my spirit by trying to play a new game, like Dishonored 2 on my extreme budget PC, that is nearing vintage quality at this point, I inevitably end up scouring the internet for forums looking for specific fixes, and one thing that always amazes me is the ubiquitous "just upgrade bro. You can't play this game in full 4k resolution and experience ray tracing blah blah so give it up". And every time I think, so what? I've been playing Far Cry4 on like, 500x260 or something resolution, and it hasn't ruined the experience for me one bit. It sucks people don't understand that, because if gaming companies put more effort into making longer, deeper games with richer stories instead of the best looking, gaming as a whole would be a much, much better experience. And I know I'm not alone because people are still playing Fallout New Vegas, and no one is out there going "if only they would remaster the graphics so I could enjoy it". Everyone is still having a blast, with this decades old game, and their only interest is adding more to it. Not it looking better.
P.S good luck LowSpec, I'm glad you found something that makes you happy. Frankly I had no idea how much work went into all these videos, and I already appreciated them immensely just because I got to play stuff I would never have been able to without you, but knowing all the work you put in just makes me that much more appreciative.

It's not about trying to get the best hardware for your money but spending as much as physically possible based on nothing but marketing innuendos and benchmark "gains" that might as well be margin of error.
It wouldn't be so bad if they basically didn't kill the entry level. 10 years ago $600 got you a PC with a modern if low end CPU with a dedicated GPU that allowed you to play basically anything you could want with most of them being on the highest settings. There was nothing that was a better value.

It also sucks now that games aren't nearly as customizable as before, also they keep getting more and more demanding on specs while my old "gaming" laptop stays in place. I just don't even try to run new games anymore. At lowest settings games usually look like crap and they somehow still manage to run like crap. I don't know how game development works but there should be a way to make a game look "older" with low setting so it doesn't look as bad and also runs well. I'm guessing companies don't even try, but like why should they, this way they're forcing us to buy better hardware. We can feel the passion in every episode of lore. UA-cam was never supposed to be a job, it was always supposed to be a hobby for fun. I love this new direction you're taking, and I love how passionate about it you are. I'm worried you'll eventually run out of topics to do videos about, but I hope we can get at least three years of this stuff. Check out the War Stories episode about crash bandicoot on ARS Technica's channel, you'll see how they basically hacked the PlayStation to give them more memory.
I think one thing that would help you get back some of that former reach is to bleep the swears. I think the algorithm would be kinder to it, and your content isn't really m-rated, so it makes no sense to make it m-rated with language. If you must, you could put the uncensored stuff on Nebula. It's a little extra work, but honestly nothing compared to the amount of work you already do. But this stuff is amazing, I love everything about it. The art, the research, the passion, the drama, and how it highlights the importance of low end hardware.

I feel it's really important to make Hardware as efficient as it can, and I feel the industry wants to keep pushing to greater quality with high prices, and then quite forgetting to proper make their games compatible to the hardware they keep pushing, making optimization just a constant effort of "get a better PC"
Final Fantasy 7 Remake will never push up to lower specs because it was never Square's Intention, and I got this Watch Dogs feeling where it was a rumor that the game had to be downgraded for the consoles, but here, they try to make such an abomination of port to not outshine the PS5, games like the newest Call of Duty, maybe S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 will make gamers forget configuration, and keep bare-bones settings that forces the player to keep up with new graphics. And the funny thing is that I can still play BF3 and BF4 with medium-high settings, and still get such sceneries and beatiful software design behind it, that still cannot be compared with newer games, because it's running better and keep an image.
AAA Games are forgetting the importance of graphical design, based on the hardware they make, as Warzone keeps forgetting that compression exists, making it a more of a move of undeniable practice against the consumer, more games will show this trait of forgetting that your Harwdware does matter, and it's the new high cost one you look, and hopefully you are up to the other components as well.
Back at my teenage years I visited this channel, which illuminated me with so much gratification, and I'm really proud of how far you went with this. I felt that I found an economical solution as I kept using my old laptop, being a student with no revenue or job because I had to keep 8+ hours of daily school , coming back from the bus to be able to sleep, then wake up earlier than the rest of the workers just to arrive on time so I'll be able to partake on University or College. It sparked a lot of interest for me on old hardware, as well proper use of resources for a program, keeping up with a scalation of better components, but having the old ones to be an option for the new releases.
I, thank you a lot. I feel that there are inspirations that I take from you, while also look forward to my future and be able to spend researching, I may haven't stopped a lot of times in this channel as I kept getting even busier than before, but this channel helped me and many others when it came to not make us pay more when we don't have the resources for it.

I live in Rio and have using computers since 1994 (my father was using way before IBM-compats were even a thing, I still have one of his old MSX2) and prices weren't always this high, actually computers were very affordable here on the late 90's to the mid 2000's, they were actually cheaper than consoles for a long time.
The problem we are living now is that we kinda reached a plateau on hardware, be it phones, handhelds, laptops or desktops, even mid-low end hardware is quite capable now of running a lot of software so hardware makers are just making new ways of pushing their high-end stuff which is hurting the whole industry.
But for me there isn't much problem since AAA games were all awful for the last 3 years... Cyberpunk, deathloop, back4blood, COD, BF, RDR2 and so on. I have been playing way more indie titles and old games lately since there isn't anything new to be excited anymore, and even with the few exceptions they don't justify spending tons of money on new hardware just to play one game.

@@LucasCunhaRocha computers were never affordable until the fiscal incentives during PT government. The prices were 10 to 30 times the minimum wage back in early 90, which got ajusted with time. True is, technology in brazil was mostly and elite/high class only. I only had acess to a computer nearly on 2000 and we took a year to pay for one, and both my parents made 3 times more than a minimum wage. And besides there is the point of AAA gaming sucking , which is not 100% real. Elden ring, FFVII and other games are coming out with awful performace and unreal requirements and extreme pricetags. Between the 2010-2015 we had a golden age of affordable graphics cards that performed well with a plethora of games that were awesome and easy to run and WAY MORE CHEAPER. I remember when i got a entry level gtx 650 for about 80$ ( something around 250 BRL back in the day) and i could play nearly every launch date game in 2012. Welp gaming industry is really pushing way more than what it can handle, really sad times. Still, in a country which about 50% of population have acess to smartphones, you can question really how badly the lack of brazilian tech companies and the unstable incoming of average brazilian is. many other countries in our continent go through something similar. Its pretty sad.

On the games and hardware subject: I feared this would happen eventually. I always felt that I was too little too late to really get myself into this world. All I wanted was a gaming setup that could play most games under 4-5 years old and whose resources were applicable ONLY to games and nothing else. Yes, I'm describing a console, but I wanted to play PC games and emulators and whatnot.
I'm still not too confident in the Steam deck. it feels too cheap for what it is, and I really didn't want a portable console, I wanted a gaming machine. Which Steam DID have before but discontinued.
EDIT: I saw the Unreal 5 demo and yeah. they really stopped caring about low end machines.
As I said. I'm too late to the party.
Companies and developers just stopped caring about the little man and focused on making bigger games and faster components. Which is understandable, but I hope that the lowspec wave will return sometime in the future, and this time I will be ready.

Uhhh…there’s nothing stopping you from building that now. You’re saying companies don’t care about the little man as if devs are only making games for the RX 6000 and RTX 3000 series but in reality new games still run on older, cheaper and more available hardware such as the RX 470 and GTX 770 with the right settings. Of course not everything with as customizable settings as the next. The Unreal Engine 5 demo will obviously show the HIGHEST capabilities of the engine, no one would view in to see the lowest. Obviously though they’re going to optimize it for as much hardware as possible. Til the day the 750 and 1050 Ti finally die there’s still place for low spec.
Steam Deck has already had performances revealed and how it looks with numerous UA-camrs playing on it and it’s great. If you watched other videos from LowSpec you can see he detailed why other portable PCs can’t be cheaper but a big company like Valve can keep it low.

Actually Unreal Engine 5 with Nanite tech will actually make things a lot better... you get insane quality of geometry and a speed boost... FPS boost since it's dynamically streaming it... so really you will only need a nice SSD for it... and better PC in general only means longer range of it... so more detail at longer ranges
Lumen is basically raytracing... that's the worrying part
But Nanite... oh boy... no need to make LOD"s anymore so it's just plug and play adventure from the looks of it... then with Nanite also means you can render like a billion high poly hamburgers and run at nice FPS... but with it off.. you get like 5 fps lol so yeah... HUGE optimization with nanite tech... it's really cool
But Lumen is the lighting and raytracing part which is intensive sort of... so yeah lol

PC gaming, hell, gaming in general has become something so disgusting, very few projects and industry ideas are truly beneficial to consumers. I am hyped with you pursuing these endevours, those videos are so great. Let's go!

The new videos are some of your best work. They were honestly the videos that pulled me back into your channel. At first it was curiosity since I don't think I've seen you do any video essay type content before, but by the end of the first video I found myself craving for more. Each video is meticulously researched, written, and edited with such intent and passion that it's impossible not to be interested in the topic. This also feels like a natural evolution to the channel - from testing the limits of older hardware, to appreciating the history that lead to where we are today. Good luck, Alex. Your passion shines through in whatever you do, and it's beautiful to see.

    I love the history lessons.
We needed something to fill in the gaps, when the Gaming Historian is still working on his next entry. Not to mention, you already nailed the production value. You and him could both upload videos on the same channel and they'd mesh extremely well.
Or you could at least just collab and make videos that coincide with one another, at least from time to time. Something along those lines.
And maybe if a game and/or piece of hardware comes along, that you feel passionate about, make a video or two about getting some great gaming on a budget, the sprinkle it in with the documentaries. There really isn't a reason why you couldn't branch out and diversify. Look at Simon Whistler.
