Met a guy at a house party in Balham about 20 years ago. Randomly got talking about DnB and our favourite tracks and I remember saying that I didn't think Mutant Revisited could ever be topped... Cue flushed cheeks and embarrassed smile... "That's one of mine" he said. Much to his embarrassment, I lost my sh*t! Ran round the party telling everyone I'd met a f*cking music hero. Barely anyone knew what I was talking about (not really a DNB party) but those that knew, KNEW! 💪🙌❤️🔥
You won't get 2 90 mate , none of us will.I know what u mean though this would certainly open the bowels.😉😆"comode"😂U must be from the states. So really didn't really feel the full impact of this uk sound🤔Big up anyway!
@frank Cohen… nope… originally from Leicester, land of Formation and SS… raised near Bristol and Bath so Danny Byrd and Reprezent land… I only say commode as I’m a nurse and see the bloody things every day 😂😂
Hearing this, memories flooding back, at the UEA, couple grams deep and Red Stripe in hand stepping like a lunatic with my boys. Man, 95 thru 97 was just the fucking tits for nights out.
1996 was the year Jungle music reached its peak. Lucky to have raved at venues that now don't exist, bought vinyl from the record shops that vanished and listened to pirate radio stations that now have disappeared all that's left is a hissing sound like sizzling bacon. How times changes. Great memories.
heard when trace was born, his mom didn't cry, but, legend has it, there was a reece, and 5 mins later, mom and son firefought their way outta the hospital. people went fking nuts
I first heard this at a Grooverider set in 1996. The place went absolutely nuts and had several reloads thanks to Mr MC GQ. Awesome tune and so good live! Great memories
Tramen is the father of all drumfunk. Thank you Dom&Roland for the game changing beat! This is insanely good. Never get enough of this track and I can't imagine the feelings of people that heard that in 96'. You can't be ready for this.
Believe me brother I heard it on pirate radio (rude fm London) played by Dylan (whom IAM sure your familiar with)Mind blown is an understatement. It was mainly alot of jump up stuff at the time
still the best mutant remix (concord dawn come a close second. nz represent!!! matt & evan did a damn good job) dom was killer when he was engineering trace. The whole U.E.D album was amazing techstep.
Grooverider @ Helter Skelter 1996, was the first time I ever heard this! Walked in to the Sanctuary and he was opening with this! Cold… One of the greatest DNB tunes of all time no doubt!
I can recognize DJ Trace from a mile away. His breaks, bass, synths, arrangement of components is done in such remarkable way that I can instantly recognize Trace. Life Could drum sample is his trademark alongside that wicked Reesy bass that makes my woofer shoot photons. Amongst trillion Amen break samples one can recognize wich one was manipulated by Trace and that, in my humble opinion, is such a macabre and unique possibility to differentiate yourself amongst millions of producers. DJ Trace alongside Nico stands as an tall tower speaker above grey matter that gets overshadowed by the sheer presence of the true sound manipulator.
Greatest DnB tune of all time. Around 6 minutes in is the clean sample of the Tramen/Domen break, if you have the vinyl. I've always wondered if Trace put that break in the bassline in there intentionally so people could sample the break, or if it was a happy accident.
this is so utterly different to the original yet just as good. you listen to this in the morning after you've done the deed though! after having no sleep
Note for the new generation, when Trace fucked with Amens, he created these... the Tramens. And this is one of those tracks which perfectly illustrates how techstep jungle all began. If there was no techstep, there wouldn't have ever been neurofunk jungle. RECOGNISE!
Damn! Trace always knew how to eek out a sound lol. This mix, standard remix AND the Mutant X remix. Just like the variations of 'Sniper' and 'Sonar'. Gotta be honest, I Still bought 'em :)
When your 5 pills deep into a burn out or die rave, this played and it was game on again........ absolute Chaos for my brain which was already slightly foggy....... memories of madness.88-2015 at it.... 52 now hooked for life... Yes fucking yes....
Well, sad thing is that it may never happen. Kids nowadays are so used to music lasting only like 3 to 4 minutes, they're going to see this and think "it's just the same thing for over 9 minutes". It's not. It's called DJ friendly. I cannot deny the importance of this tune though. However, it does not survive well in the current world of rapid media consumption.
This was the soundtrack to my later teenage years, the scenes changed so much. This along with countless other remind me of so many memory’s, thanks for posting
This is psychedelic progressive... Reminds me of when the psyche and prog artists back in the 1960s and 70s reversed the guitar parts within certain tracks! Mutant Revisited is a long player too ;)
lol at the comparison to dubstep. The realms of this tune can never be rivalled by something like dubstep. Big Ups to Trace, this may sound similar to the later sounding Sonar, but for me both of the tracks have enough creativity for me to like them both as individual pieces.
sonar was made around the same time as this in the same recording sessions with dom. it got delayed for years umtil it finally got a prototype release.
What's a dubstep? Oh is it that bugger dumb rumpkins bubble shit that was supposed to oink step drum and bass? Turnip legends said no then drum and bass tore through the dubstep mucky phase. @@theeturnoneI'm just seeing this 4 years after the fact Lol. I traveled from Philly to a party in Pittsburgh in, I want to say, 1995 or 96. I can't remember what it was called but maybe it was "Return To Oz" (?) There were two buildings on the property and the property was on the outskirts of the city. It was still an urban area though if that makes any sense. There was a large Warehouse type building and also a smaller barn on the same property. The barn is where the D&B room/ambient room was. Trace and Ed Rush were DJs there, Dieselboy of course, all of the usual suspects Lol.. It was a wild party. I loved every minute of it! Towards the end of the night, as the sun was coming up, it got busted and all I remember is about 20 people getting locked up. But in true Fuck The Law style, the party raged on. We went back to the Best Western and resumed the party there around 5am. One of my best memories of that decade. I miss those days so much. I have nothing left of that time in my life but vivid and corful memories. All of my flyers, cassettes (Lol, I would listen to them so much that they'd break), clothes, photos, etc. from that time have all been lost in moves or whatever. I'd love to meet someone who was at this particular party.

1st heard this played out at Movement down Bar Rumba. Same venue I first heard Souljah 'Fade to Black' out loud at a rave. Both blew my socks off!
